What To Do About Curls?

I am a genderqueer person and I have a bit of a problem. I have curly/frizzy hair that I can't tame.

280edit.jpg

The deer in headlights look is due to the flash and taking too many pictures.

That image is the most tame I've been able to get my hair recently. I used a lot of hair serum and don't think it looks too good. I can't afford anything like a keratin treatment, but wanted to know if anybody had ideas on how to control curly, frizzy, poofy hair. I usually use some "plain" shampoo and conditioner (although I really just don't wash my hair too often).

Also, could anybody suggestions about styles that might work with my hair texture and face shape? I'm considering growing my hair out more but am unsure as to how to style my potential longer hair. I was considering a pompadour.

I had a friend in HS with hair like yours, he always did a high amd tight. Basically let the top goand shave at the ears and fade up so it leaves the top squared. Kinda like a basic milotary crew cut but with more on top. It will tend to make your face look more square. He let the mop on top go to the point he could stretch the curls down to his chin. Your hair does't look quite as curly, but the style should still make your face look longer and squarer. Might leave your ears stranded though. :(

Hope you find something you like.

Cheers,

Elena

It really depends on the image you want to project.

Do you want to be androgynous or look more masculine or more feminine? Are you a student? Do you have professional obligations that dictate hair style in any way?

Long curly hair with your face shape would probably accent femininity if I saw you on the street.

Long dreadlocks, on the other hand, would put you in the androgynous-to-masculine look.

Even with super short hair, you could be seen either way, depending on the clothes you wear.

Look at other people with curly hair that you find attractive/would like to look like for ideas of how to get yours cut or how to style it. I like wild curls on people myself more than crunchy product-laden hair.

I'm genderqueer so I want to be read as male but barely male, feminine male. Not a student and I'm looking for new work (I don't get enough hours where I am).

I don't want dreadlocks for various reasons. Long curly hair not meaning chin length or shoulder length...just longer than what I have.

I'm usually seen as a woman no matter what the cut.

Ah, I don't know too many people with my kind of hair. It's more poofy than curly.

When i was younger i had straighter hair, but as i got older it got more poofy and curly and looks just like yours now. Try washing your hair with conditioner only, then condition like normal. Keep washing with shampoo to a bear minimum, once a month is ok, some do it even less. When you get out of the chower blow dry it real good, this will leave a poof ball on your head but dont worry. Rub a little olive oil into your hair, you can get this anywhere, target. Then bust out your straightening iron and go to town on it. Google videos for how to straighten short hair for guys, its insanely easy and fast especially after the blowdry.

Well anyway this works for me and you can have shirt bangs and try different angles with the straightening iron. Only catch is once your hair gets wet again the gig is up, you'll have to straigten it to keep it down again.

Good luck thats some tricky hairs you got theres.

Ewww, yeah. That is not what I was thinking of. I was thinking of more a low fade with the top long. But I can see from the crew cut pic that might not work for you.

Eeeek, sorry just an idea.

My hair is too short for an iron (I have a 1 inch iron). The picture I posted is with hair serum applied after a shower (no blow dry). I'm really bad at straightening my hair because I have a lot of problems with the back.

My hair isn't as curly as yours, but I had my niece us a straightener on it. It last for several weeks. I believe hair dressers can do this, but you may also be able to find a home kit. Word of waring, it tingles, but if you leave it in too long, it can blister your scalp.

That's probably a keratin treatment which I can't do.

They do make at home hair straightener kits, which you can find in the same aisle as hair dye in any drug store or grocery store. They usually are less than 15 or 20 dollars. They do tingle as it is chemically straightening your hair. I am MTF and am currently growing my hair out which is curly and frizzy. I personally haven't used it due to the fact that I recently have bleached my hair and too much stress will cause MAJOR damage. I will caution you, it can burn, from what I read and understand there is a sort of thin line between having the chemicals in for the right amount of time and too long.

I cannot use chemical straighteners for various reasons. I'm looking more so for shampoos and conditioners, and other styling type products that might help. I'm also hoping to get info on styles that would work.

Soo...no straighteners.

  • 3 weeks later...

I got a new conditioner that was recommended by somebody at sally's beauty supplies. I think it's helping a bit. I also really miss my longer hair. I just hate not knowing a style that works until it's longer.

It certainly could be classed as dark humor.  Unfortunately the sentiments alone must hurt young trans folks.  Decency and reality doesn't seem to be in the GOP's vocabulary.   Hugs,   Charlize

Good morning all,    It’s a frosty morning here the lawn looks silvery, and the uncovered spring flowers have icy edges on their leaves. The only flower bed I covered was my tulips. As nice as it is here during the day, our clear wind free nights allow the temperatures to drop into the mid twenties. Here in our growing zone it’s recommended that you not plant delicate plants until Mother’s Day. Central Indiana can have snow as late as the third week of May. The birds are active at the feeders, I’ve had my cup of yoghurt and morning meds. So I’ll sit here, drink coffee and watch the as the sunrise chases the frost from the yard.    @awkward-yet-sweet I could eat black eyed peas as a side for every meal. Boil them plain or with fatback. Served as a leftover, just add in a little Rotel Original Diced Tomatoes & Green Chilies.  Make the best of your day,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Morning, y'all. Evening here; we had the regulation three mugs full today. Now it's time to drink something else.     No big plans here either, eldest daughter and granddaughter will be arriving on Saturday, and we will have our granddaughter to ourselves for a week after that. We still have plans though. Tuesday we'll go to the swim center, Wednesday we'll take a road trip to visit my mom, Thursday we'll get some mulch delivered to top up the gardens.   I still make other small plans on a daily basis though. The things I do plan nowadays, which is a bit new for me, is that after pinching a nerve and ending up in a bit of pain and getting some treatment from the physio, I am more motivated than ever to exercise more regularly. Tuesday for example, I went for a short (15 minute) early morning walk, went to the pool for some hydrotherapy, and mowed the lawns. Yesterday I did my exercise reps and spent some time on the exercise bike. Today, I went for a 45-minute walk, tomorrow I will do my reps again and go for a long bike ride. As long as I do at least one thing every day, right? The pleasing thing is that I'm losing weight! I blew out to above 95kg early in the year and I'm just under 91kg now. Yay me!

Positive side of the mixed bag.

Boredom is an emotional state that comes when a person has nothing to do, and is not interested in anything. To stop boredom, most people do something to occupy or amuse themselves. The first known use of the word boredom is in the novel Bleak House by Charles Dickens, written in 1852, but the saying to be a bore had been used to mean "to be tiresome or dull" since 1768. When referring to the mind, boredom is a bad state in which the person feels a deep lack of interest in what is going on around them, and where it is hard to focus.
