The worst thing about electrolysis

Guest Shari

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

It's not the cost or the pain. What I really dislike is having to skip shaving and going all fuzzy face. It just frosts me to look like that, even for a few hours, in public. My friend wanted me to stop by after my appointment but I had to run home and shave before she saw me. Silly me.

Hugs,

Shari

I'm having my upper lip done tomorrow and I have to grow it 4-5 days to be long enough. It makes it difficult to shop on weekends with that disgusting hair.

Me too, can't stand it. I go 3 days before a session and the grey appearing on my face is like a scourge, I can't wait to get home and shave off what's left after a session. The good news for me it seems like HRT / age has reduced what is appearing on my upper lip and just had that done yesterday. I can already see the light at the end of the tunnel for that area.

Laser is just as bad in this regard. They told me not to shave for 3 days after the treatment. This gives time for the dead hair to work their way out. Ugh, I hate not having smooth, soft skin.

I'm wondering how anyone is supposed to pass if they have to wait three days before shaving. I can't even pass if I haven't shaved in six hours, much less three days!

When I have somewhere I have to go after, I put my electric razor in my purse and visit the ladies room (it's a single) on the way out. Staying away from the area just worked can be challenging because the razor is not very precise and your skin is sensitive.

I was fortunate enough to have a dark beard and laser worked well. I had 6 treatments spaced 6 weeks apart. Since then, I've had some electrolysis but just for touch up and letting it grow doesn't bother me much.

I don't know...I still think the pain is the worst part.

Have your electrologist play some Iron Maiden, Rush, or Deep Purple and the you'll never notice the beeps! :D

And coming from someone who still wears a goatee (6 more weeks, then time to dive into girl mode, woohoo!), I hate having to go a few days without shaving.

I should definitely try this when I go for Electrolysis.

I think the worst thing about it for me is that it's going to take so bleeding long to complete.....but, I can't afford laser, so there we have it.

I went in last week to check on laser. Too flippin blond they said. Electrolysis starts next week. Sigh......

Well, I'll deal with this when I get to Seattle this summer. Guess when I have to do this, I COULD drop back into androgyne mode and go gender surfing again, but, no worries! Confusing the dickens out of the public is a blast anyway. Why not? Doesn't bother me!

Stormrider2112:

Now, girl, I'm ALWAYS up for some Deep Purple. Go on YouTube and search for "Stealin'" by Uriah Heep (1973). "Ooohhh, I was stealin' when I shoulda been buyin' !!!" Now, THAT'S rock and roll! Aaahhh, back in The Day. Iron Maiden and Rush are very good. For some reason I could never get into them. Don't know why. Go figure.

The worst is yet to come: "Now, pull down your pants..."

Can that wait until SRS when I'm hopped up on novacaine?

Maybe after they remove it and before it's inverted? You know, pack it in ice between treatments

Uriah Heep, just rocks, and I like just about all they recorded back then (early 70's heavy organ, very gothic). I happen to love playing that song "Stealin" and yes I have even sang lead vocals on it whilst playing Bass, it's in D and flat cooks, love to walk, love to octave slide (wooffin').

Ok this post has nothing to do with electrolysis, but that's not a bad idea to bring good music to the chair, I usually just chat with my lady friend as she works on my face. I wonder if she would like Uriah Heep ?

SRS? Most surgeons don't require electrolysis anymore on the - well - sensitive areas.

Well that's good. I read on some Dr's SRS site they required some LHR on the shaft and scrotum.

I think it might have been the Dr. you and DeeJay are going to?

The upper lip is without doubt the most painful part for me,especially in the middle. I hate having to not shave between treatments too but needs must.

Agreed on that. My boss said that it couldn't hurt THAT bad...so I asked if I could pull out a hair from his mustache and he was in tears. Then I told him that he would also be stung by bees in the same spot. That shut him up :D

My electrologist started on my cheeks first then moved to the upper lip. It still hurts really bad and that's after taking 3 aspirin before the session (both for pain and as an anti-inflammatory) and applying 4% lidocaine cream to the areas where she plans to work. The cream makes the other areas a real breeze but the upper lip still hurts a good deal. I don't even want to think about the upper lip without the lidocaine cream.

Congratulations and Happy Anniversary!!!! A beautiful milestone.    I hope to see you tonight...I just have to stay awake long enough!!

It's funny with photos isn't it, how we think we look in them vs. how we actually do look in them! I'm hopeless at smiling and I have to try really hard not to frown or look like a zombie. I'm never sure how I come across to others.   I had a moment late last night when my eldest daughter facetimed my wife for some now forgotten reason, and when I was handed the tablet and talking to her, I was fixated on my image in the corner. My hair was wild at the time, I was a bit tipsy and all I saw was a woman! I have no idea what she saw in that context. I'll probably never know.

I hope to see you on the Zoom meeting tonight, April.  I might be late, since I am doing lights and sound for a play that opened last night.  I was home before ten last night, so I think I'll be able to make it.   Today is an anniversary for me.  Seven years ago today, I stood up at the weekly community kaffeeklatsch as <deadname> and announced that henceforth I would be Kathy.  It went as well as I could have imagined: there were some surprised looks, but no hostility and lots of support.  A whole layer of stress disappeared that day and has never come back.  (There have been other stresses, but that one is gone.)  I have been me full-time ever since that moment.

This is a scarily accurate description of what I feel!   I hope I don't sound too schmaltzy by saying this, but I remember when I signed up to this forum last year, during the sign-up process the question is asked, "Why do you want to join TransPulse?" to which I wrote, "Looking for a home where I can freely write about my issues and interact with similar people."    I think I just found one. ❤️

Good morning, everyone!! I was up early again - already on my third cup of coffee having walked/fed the dog and read the local paper.   We have a birthday party for a friend to go to this afternoon but no real plans otherwise.   I hope to be able to attend tonight's TGP Zoom session. It's been weeks since I've been able to participate with the illness/loss of our dog, two horrible colds in succession and our trip to chase the solar eclipse.   Have a wonderful day and look for the goodness in it.

I think we tend to be overly critical of our looks, whether we're trying to express ourselves as masculine, feminine or anywhere along the gender spectrum. For me, I use photos as a way to track my progress, to help me find my style and look and to help me find ways to improve myself in posture, looks, make-up, style......   I didn't really think about our FB avatar being public but then realized that when people search they do see it.   Since I'm not out to anyone but my wife, therapist, priest and people here, my FB page remains "that guy." I have created a Bitmoji that is relatively androgynous moving slowly towards the feminine. Long gray hair, earrings, softer features...I'm transitioning it along with myself. :-)
