Wow - if I did not know any better, Jenny, I would ask what rock did this get dug out from under. But sadly I know that would not be the case. Thankfully the majority of the comments on the page were slamming the ad with all sorts of colorful words. And at the time I checked, it was 14 likes, 161 dislikes, which should give a good idea of what people think of it.

WOW - all I can say at first!

What a terribly ignorant advertisement! It shows the opposition will sell their soul to the devil to support their bigotry. WAIT - maybe they sold their soul when they became bigots - so it's too late.

TRANSVESTITES? Give me a break!

.

You have to be kidding me!

A guy in a dress with hairy legs, a big chin and obvious "male " attributes?

Gimme a break....

And the 4 of us who have posted thus far, all know that the general public is NOT going to really distinguish between the word transvestite and transgender/sexual. What a sad step back to the dark ages if this bill doesn't pass.

You noticed that too, huh? Whomever drew that cartoon representation of their perception of a "transvestite" watches too much porn because that is what I think they made that person look like.

My error on saying this bill should not pass when it needs to pass.

Compare that ad to this one from those who support Prop 5.

Now which ad is based on hope and which one is based on fear? hmm...

Mhmm . . . a no-brainer for sure. And the Vote Yes on 5 video gets it right with terminology to boot.

I wish voters were intelligent and voted their mind. Unfortunately, many may be the victim of church leader's influence or their own well ingrained bigotry. We shall see.

If they have no definition of TG it's not a well written law. They could start with something like "Beards and mustaches with women’s clothing...Sorry, but we need rules for that!"

I also know someone who is a self-described TV. Not the norm, but a few of my friends aren't :). The word still exists and so do some of them if that's what they're comfortable with. I have no idea what the cartoon is comfortable with.

Well, most in the community (this site) do not subscribe to the term "Transvestite"....

Period...

Which is good for the tiny part of the world that is this board. I don't call people labels out of malice. They'd get hissy at me if I said CD. I'll pretend the word I call them is like a banned book here and it's harmful to even mention it from now on. Ampersand.

In the US Transvestite is overall a derogatory term. But in other parts of the world, the name tranvestite is an accepted term for a cross-dresser. On LP's cross-dresser page, Tranvestite is used, and therefore implies that it is acceptable. This is a phrase I'm not going to get upset about. Yet in the original video you can bet it's name is used to be as derogatory as possible for its effect.

I'm curious in how many crossdressers who want to work in a daycare would have a beard and mustache. I would like to see one example. From my experience a crossdresser would want to present as female as possible when going out in public.

The use or avoiding the use of the word in question would not change anything in that first ad -horrible.

As far as I am concerned I don't care for any labels - we are all just people.

Love ya,

Well obviously all CDs are not alike.

This is a major TG event near me. Without defining the terms of TG, what this law is asking is for the general population to be more accepting than a group of TGs.

"What we don’t like:

Beards and mustaches with women’s clothing…Trust us, it doesn’t work and we’ll have to ask anyone with that combination to leave and you won’t get any of your money back.

Sorry, but we need rules for that!"

Does anyone think they put that on their homepage because of one incident w/one person?

OK Kim, I do see what you are getting at. Yet on the same token I still don't think it is something to fear. Let a daycare center present professional dress and appearance guidelines that must be adhered to. If your clothing is going to female, than you must present that way, male same way. If androgynous, look professional. I see nothing wrong with that and I don't see the bill addressing that issue.

What I see the bill as saying is to not discriminate against someone for being LGBT.

Rather than arguing over terminology, how about focusing on the message this add is sending? Do any of us believe that a CDer/transvestite would seek or hold any job while dressed en femme? Of course not. The add preys on ignorance and fear, just like they always do, and it counts on the ignorance of the general public to get away with it.

The only defense against this kind of attack is public education, and lots of it. That is what we must focus on, now and in the future.

These commercials upset me. They are being played on my television everyday. I don't believe this is to much to ask to be treated equally. In my heart, I can't understand why someone would disagree with Prop 5. :-(

I may be wierd but I am sort of glad that the opposition's ad is so totally over the edge. The likes and dislikes show why, when they stray this far from reality any reasonable person dislikes it and votes in favor of Prop 5. In a way this is a pretty good ad to garnish support for Prop 5 and the opposition doesn't even know they are helping.

Its interesting to note that the proponents use human beings, and the oponents could only get cartoon characters to be on their side. Adds to the effect that the oponents don't have much of a case!!

"What do you mean we can't find one Man In A Dress to oppose this thing" "Well, we didn't have the two million bucks the one dude wanted!!!" "Get in there Billy Boy and put that dress on, or we'll lose this sucker!! "Why me? Its your dress!!"

I live in anchorage and unfortunately see all 3 of the disgusting cartoons, paid for by pastor Jim Minnery. There is outrage in anchorage over this commercial. Since then "anchorage one" who supports this proposition has put out a commercial with Drew (the red haired gentleman at the end of yes on prop 5 commercial) who states he is transgender and that he is a real person not like we are depicted in the cartoon. There has also been press conferences where "Anchorage one " has stated the difference between transgender identity (transexual) and transvestite. The vote is Tuesday, hopefully this prop will pass and give lesbian, gay and transgender Alaskans legal protection in anchorage
