I don't have the first clue about makeup, I don't know what to use, what needs to be applied first, any of it

some advice would help

I think the first thing you should consider for makeup is a high quality foundation (not necessarily expensive). What you purchase really depends on how much help your complexion needs. If your skin tone is uneven or if you will need to hide any beard shadow (the blue tint that comes from a dark beard) you might want to find something that conceals more. Foundations generally range from very light (transparent) to heavy (very opaque). When I was in my teens I had almost no beard and fairly even skin tone so I used light liquid foundation. Now, years later, I use Dermablend. It is very opaque so it hides my beard shadow and all my other skin flaws.

Whatever you use as foundation, make sure it matches your natural skin tone and only wear as little as you need to acheive coverage. Heavily applied makeup doesn't look very natural.

After you find the right foundation, then pick a blush that compliments your skin tone. Blush highlights and brightens your cheeks. Next, you'll need eye shadow and an eye liner pencil. You should consider buying an inexpensive eye shadow like the shadows offered from Covergirl because you can buy three colors in one case that usually compliment one another. You'll use the three colors to highlight your eyes. Use a coal or black eye liner pencil to outline your eyes. You can adjust the effect and the heaviness by varying how much you use. The last thing you'll need is lipstick or lip gloss. Glosses tend to be transparent and add just a little color to your lips. Lipstick is heavier and colors your lips more completely. Lip color should match or compliment your complexion but really it is up to you to decide what you like.

I hope these recommendations help at least a little. Makeup use is really a form of art. I have been doing my own makeup for 30 years and I am still learning.
