Foundation and Concealer question

Hi all,

What are you using for foundation and concealer? I tried some cheap stuff in experimenting but the foundation did not apply well. Any recommendations would be great.

Many thanks

Rachel.

Rachel, you'll probably get as many answers as there are products out there, and that's A LOT. But for what it's worth, I use a liquid foundation from Sephora (J.C. Penney). It goes on smooth and nice, conceals well, and I had help from the sales folks on the proper shade. I've always had good service from their staff, even in the very beginning. I know some women use pressed powder on top, but I haven't felt the need.

I also use the Sephora Foundation, but in combination with primer, tinted moisturizer, and concealer. Here is the order of operations.

  • Primer (Too Faced and Benefit have good ones)
  • Tinted moisturizer ( Using one from Boscia right now but NARS has a great one)
  • Foundation ( The Sephora brand is great as i comes in many shades, but Tart has a new one that's awesome)
  • Concealer ***Always after foundation*** ( I love Glamoflauge by Hard Candy)
  • Pressed Powder ( I am using the Sephora brand currently because it seems to work a little better to align brands in this sense due to chemical composition)

I know this seems like a lot, but it's all in the name of Glamour, dig.

Have fun with it,

Dee Dee

I have only tried power foundations because my face gets so shiny from being oily, so your skin type does play a factor in whether you go with a powder, cream, or liquid.

I use the concealor from Almay then use Revlon Color Stay foundation. It seems to work well enough for now.

Like Carolyn said, you could get a different answer from everyone because makeup choice depends largely on your skin. What works for one may not work at all for another. Also, climate plays a part. When I lived in the north I was okay using pretty much any foundation as far as brand. When I moved south, I found that the only foundation I could get to stay on at all was Revlon ColorStay. However, when I first tried it on Svenna, I noticed it was not going on smoothly like it does on my face... so I ended up using Cover Girl for Svenna. If your skin is oily (like mine) be sure to pick one that is oil free and says that it is for oily skin or oily/combination skin. If your skin is dry, be sure to pick one for dry skin. The shade is going to depend on your skin tone. A common misconception is that foundation should darken your face. This is not true - (I have studied cosmetology and had some makeup classes many years ago so I do know a little about this) - foundation should not change the color of your skin. Foundation should even out your skin tone and basically provide a smooth, even base for the rest of your makeup... (think of the foundation of a house). Also, some makeup artists will say to always use concealer (aka cover up) under your foundation and some will say to always put it on after your foundation... generally it's better to put it on after the foundation, but if I have a bad trouble spot I will sometimes do both - before and after - but just make sure it doesn't look caked on. As for concealer - the same concepts apply as far as shade and type, but the best that I have found (at least for me) is by Rimmel and is called "neutralizer".

I am in love with the foundation I am currently using. It's a cream foundation. CoverGirl+Olay (found in the CoverGirl section). As for powder I'm using CoverGirl Sensitive Skin pressed powder. This is a thin foundation though because I don't have any beard shadow to conceal.

..I guess I should have asked that before answering if you need one that covers beard shadow or not.

Chalk another one up for Sephora liquid and pressed powder to set. I use Neutrogena SPF moisturizer prior. I am very happy with the results. I also use the Sephora bronzer as well just for highlights.

Derma Blend has two shades that work for me, one in the creme style that is a little thicker, and another in a smoother and lighter liquid base. Both have the very high SPF I need, and both are foundation/concealer in one. During the summer months I use a setting powder when I "glow". Since last October, I have not needed the powder, but we are getting closer on needing it.

This topic reminds me of the lyrics to the Beatles song, "A Little Help From My Friends."   "What do you see when you turn out the lights?"   "I can't tell you but I know it's mine."   Carolyn Marie

@Ivy have you read the actual document?   Has anyone else out there read it?
    • Abigail Genevieve
I am reading the Project 2025 document https://www.project2025.org/policy/   This will take some time.  I read the forward and I want to read it again later.   I read some criticism of it outside here and I will be looking for it in the light of what has been posted here and there.  Some of the criticism is bosh.   @MaeBe have you read the actual document?

      *older, not holder, oops :P

      No problem!

Old topic, but I gotta say my favorites are: "Stop hitting on minors" (doesn't work if you're holder tho) and "Sure as [squid] not you"

Abigail, I think we will just leave the other posts where they are, and the discussion can start anew here.  It is possible to do what you ask, but would disrupt the flow of the discussion in the other thread, and would require more work than it's worth.   Carolyn Marie

I am in too good a mood to earn my certificate today. I am sure something will happen that will put me on the path to earning it.

It's likely most cis-women consider a fitting unnecessary "because they know what  they wear" and get used to the wrong size.  The instructions for what your size is are simple and why go to any further effort?  You measure your bandsize and you measure your max and subtract the two to get the needed info for the cup size.  Then you buy the same size for years until it hurts or something.

Congratulations Lorelei! Yes, it is a powerful feeling to have the documents that say "you are you".

Here is space for discussion on this, since the topic is large and could derail another thread SOMEBODY started.   Could some dear, sweet, kind Moderator pull everything related to this from the Voting for Trump thread and put it here?  I don't know if you can do that; I am the new girl on the block after all (blinks sweetly).

I will have arrived when I have a b*tch certificate of my own.  I think someone called me one once.

That’s fantastic Lorelei. I’m so happy for you.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
