As there is much more news regarding the transgender community it's my guess that there will be an increase in the number of people preying on members of the community either in their areas or on line with the 'net being the most effective place to make a lot of contacts and hide one's identity. While many may be seeking information for monetary gain and others just playing sick pranksters, there's a lot of very dangerous people out there with much more twisted and harmful agenda's.

No age group is safe and these people can be extremely clever and patient.

Has there been any caution guidelines set out for members?

Perhaps not here but on other sites of which I've been a member, it's surprises me just how quickly people will post information that can add up to the point where you can almost walk in the front door of their house.

I was at McDonald's eating and a news clip about a missing young girl made me think of the number of creeps and psycho's are roaming the 'net. There's a good chance this girl was lured by internet contact and there's a good chance the outcome will not be a good one.

Just wondered.

It is one of the reasons for the moderation of posts and this rule from the T & C which is strongly enforced. And while it cam happen most don't ever make it to member status either.

11). Users may not publicly post any information which may reveal his or her identity. Such information includes, but is not limited to a Member's full name, address, social security number, credit card, bank account information, email address or phone number.

Both Admin and the mods work very hard to keep this site and the membership safe. While anyone can read what is posted here we try very diligently to make sure that people don't expose themselves to predators and potential danger and that the predators don't gain access to contact with member through the site.

You need to use common sense but we do have your back

Thanks for throwing that up in red Johnny. I'm ultra cautious about what information I put on the site but in back checking, I've put out enough to allow someone to play to my insecurities or isolation. I'm smart enough to block and filter and recognize anyone trying to worm their way past my defenses but the approach can be subtle and I'd caution any member to check and check again before they hit "post".

J.J. beat me to it for the big share here, but I agree that we keep getting new weirdo bait thrown into our part of the lake every day.

"They hate you, but I so much think you are so great and will <fill in the blank>." Its not nice what they really "will" do.

Agreed that a lot of people have declared open season on us, and the hunting licenses are free for the asking.

Dee Jay,

I'd guess there's a lot of members who skim across the cautions and advice much like I ignore, "Read Instructions First" before I crank up anything I just bought that could bring about injury.

Throwing up these things once again can only help.

Most of the time I'm on total guard everywhere I go, including the Internet... On this website, I feel somewhat safe & secure BUT I'm even on guard "to a level" on this site....

To many creepers & pedos out there....

I volunteer on the Sheriffs task force on internet predators and we go after internet predators of young children. Maybe you don't recognize me, but some really bad dirt bags think I'm this cute little 14 year old girl just beginning to explore my sexuality. I'm s real flirt and you say such cute things. I've sent 3 to prison and number 4 is going to trial next month, but more likely it will get postponed. Some of the conversations I've got into would make you sick to your stomach and make you think twice about ever meeting someone you don't know online unless you can verify who they are. Children should never meet anyone they chat with. There are too many really sick people out there looking to feed on the weak. That could mean many of us. When we transition, we lose a great deal of our size and strength. A couple years of Estrogen HRT and a young teenager could take one of us out. Please be careful out there. Katheryn

The internet is a powerful tool for those who have minds twisted well beyond what the average person can comprehend and their sickness drives them further and further and further into a madness that will only end after so much damage has been done to the innocent and their families. The burnout rate among law enforcement types who work child abuse is very high and yet it's a job that must continue.

Predators are very clever but given to over reaching and that's their weakness. Their profile is remarkably similar and they are often hiding in plain sight. They research the life style of their target group and play on children of working parents. Often they'll feign indifference at first, slowly gaining the confidence of their victim. Usually white males, age 40-65. Loners. Perhaps a few minor criminal offences. Intelligent but not well educated and often in public work and so plain and ordinary they blend into the background well.

There have been some high profile cases where the criminal is extremely odd and and very high profile but they are the exception. Please, please be cautious. At all times. Anything suspicious, don't hesitate. Notify the authorities right away.

Sara this is really a great topic that I believe needs to be brought up now and again to keep people on their toes and to be safe. The internet is a great great tool for learning and many other good things such as Laura's which is widely known by the trans chasers as a place not to go, thank you very much to all the moderators who work to keep it as safe as possible. Unfortunately the net is also a very useful tool for those whose intentions are to harm for their own distorted pleasures so yes being on the net we need to be very careful that we do not leave a calling card. Facebook has become a very useful tool for the bad guys so if you have a facebook page be careful what you post and who your friends are. Your friends on facebook can unknowingly be creating a link to you by a person with ill intentions.

The internet has been the best thing since jam and peanut butter on bread. I can in an hour learn more that I could in days before and reach people world wide and learn about them as they learn about me. We then can understand each other and hopefully live in peace with on another. The other kind on the internet, the predators of children, be very afraid. There are thousands of us little girls on the net and we put our pictures up for you to look at an plot and plan how to get in my sweet little panties. And when you come to meet me because my parents are gone for the weekend leaving me the house. And I really like wine coolers. Well come on over. I'm safe. We've talked for weeks via chat. I'm a sure thing. I just want to see your face when three deputy sheriffs put you on the ground and handcuff you. Your wife and kids and all of your friends are going to know including your boss. We like publicity, lots of publicity, especially the kind showing your face scumbag. So chou for now sweety. I'll be on chat tomorrow night. Because the word hasn't reached all of these people. There is another predator on the internet and it's me. I'm patient and I'm cautious about what I let out so your lawyer can't get you off on charges of entrapment. Sweet little Katheryn wouldn't bite, would she? Just watch me dirtbag

Bless you Kathryn. I've actually heard these scumbags try to justify what they do and talk about how ultimately harmless it is! As a child molested by a stranger I know better. It never goes away. You learn to live with it but you are never the same.

You save children from that and stop these monsters. I can't praise you enough.

Often as not, they'll lay the blame on the victim which is why so many are never caught or even reported. The toll is incredible. One high profile case involving a lone woman who took the life of a little girl is an example of a victim preying on another victim. Intervention could have saved them both. But the norm is these predators are scum and they increase their demand as they go. I dated one gal whose mother "allowed" her boyfriend access to the little girl for rent and food money. Her arms and legs were covered with cutting scars. She'd always say she had moved past it but there was always a far away look in her eyes. Forced laughter and drug and alcohol abuse.

Oh yeah. On the computer, I can be anyone I choose. Just any opening and the beast is loose. And sexual abuse at the hands of a parent, even if it's not physical is as destructive and crippling as any other form of abuse. It too, never goes away. The memory is as fresh as yesterday.

They're out there and they never rest. This is not a scare tactic. It's reality. We all have to deal with it. Let's deal with it together. Report abuse. Don't become a willing target.

My male cousin is serving time in El Paso.......

He was a big wig in a large Fortune 500 company and 55 years old...

He took his computer in for service and child porn was found on it and the police were called....

7 years.....lost the job...family rejects him...

Says that downloading child porn is victimless....

I told hm that by downloading that stuff it just enables more children to be pushed into that horrid life....

Some people are clueless.....

People I know in law enforcement and accounts I've read are way beyond sick. The burn out rate for officers who deal with that sort of thing is huge and many under counseling (I've mentioned this before) for PTSD. Most units have a strict policy that prohibits any officer from scanning the evidence alone.

The destruction world wide is incalculable.

But as far as this site is concerned, as more and more information about the transgender community reaches the media, the more predators will troll this site.

I don't think we can thank the folks here at Laura's who do all in their power to protect our identities and safety. From my stand point, my personal life as well as the lives of my family would be ruined if my presence and posts were made public. My family needs me and that has to take precedence over my own personal struggles and so this is a very important place for me. I intend to have it remain so, unless or until my therapist tells me I got on the wrong bus.

I put away a very highly paid corporate controller and vice president. His lawyers pulled every stunt on the books to delay and then he hit on another member of the task force and we traced it back to his computer. Added an additional 6 years to his sentence. Judges will allow some latitude for the first offence, Do it again and his attornies had 7 days to prepare for a jury trial. His lawyers tried to plea bargain a sentence. Not a chance. We had him on video tape, we had computer transcripts, we had his computer. I hear that prison is a pregnant dog for these guys. Be very afraid for I'm out there prowling for you. I was in law enforcement in the early 80's then changed to laboratory medicine. I now volunteer on a Sheriff's Task Force on Internet Predators. We cooperate with other Law Enforcement Agencies and turn over evidence to them. We try to lure predators in after they have convicted themselves. It shows intent and is a pretty powerful message in a court of law. I try and volunteer as much as I am able. We are funded through Federal Funding and some State Funding. All volunteers are under the supervision of a sworn law enforcement officer. Katheryn

My legal involvment was just before the days of internet, but I had my hooks into the financial side of the sales business for a few years on the basis of tax liability. I was VERY protective of my youngest children for several years after a few cases where I had to go over "Stock In Trade" of 8K or more black & white photos because the sales records were written on the back sides of original prints. This was in the days before the police could just forfeit money they seized, so we took it in personal income taxes.

Hey Dee Jay I checked out those threads you linked, in the second one it says that email addresses are publicly available by default... my heart skipped a beat. I went to my profile and checked but it doesn't appear to be displayed... I wanted to confirm this because I don't remember turning it off and *I don't see it displayed anywhere... but if it is that could be all sorts of bad (I registered with the same email address I use on my resume')

It says this......

By Default when you register your email address is publicly visible. Go to your profile and check the box to hide your email. This is for your safety. Your email is needed for verification only and is always confidential. Under no circumstances will this site ever email you first or put you on a mailing list.

Then it will all be ok!

OK?

"Let's go," he said.  They were both in denim and boots.  She wanted to go out to the plant and look at one of the buildings, different from all the others, with A659 stenciled on the side.  It was heavily locked but had keys.  Staff had told her there was something strange about it.  He drove his Wrangler.   "I was going to ask you about what the doctor said, but the walls have ears." "I know.  They shamelessly listen to everything and it is all over town.  They can't help it, the dears, we are strangers in town and they are thirsty for novelty." "They call you the Tornado."  She laughed.  He did.  She was a skinny little thing, meek and mild. "They call you the Greek god. Not far off." "Heh." "Doc took me off hormones to run tests and get a clear idea of what is going on.  I am kind of scared I will grow a beard and get a deep voice and you will never want to marry me." "Don't worry about it.  Before hormones you looked like a preadolescent girl. Nothing to worry about." "So if I turn into Sasquatch you would still marry me?" "Yes." "Will you marry me?" "Yes." "We are engaged! Hah! I've been waiting since high school for this." "We are not.  The guy pops the question. And there is a ring involved." She pulled the band out of her hair and stuck it on his right wrist as he drove. "There." "That's not a proper engagement." "Is." "Is not." "Then do better.  Find a ring and a decent spot and do it.  You have until sundown.  Taylor's rules." "I don't know where a jewelry store is." "Let me handle it."  She speed dialed.  "Hey, John? Yeah, this is Taylor from Millivlle.  You remember me?  Great. My FIANCE and I will be by later today to pick up the ring I ordered." She turned to him.  "YOU find a location.  They close at five." You better have a good speech. Remember, I do presentations for a living." They drove for a minute. "Aren't you going to kiss me?" That took a few minutes.   The guard unlocked the gate.  She was surprised to see he knew where to go.  Now they parked the Wrangler near A659.  He got out and sent a text.  She didn't catch the name.  "Don't shoot"?  "Yeah. I think you are going to meet some of the people I work with today. Some of them are rather excitable." "Later, I guess." "Sooner or later." "This is a huge parking lot." "I guess they used to have a lot of workers here." "You know all about it." She looked at the sign next to the entrance door.  "DO NOT ENTER WITHOUT PROPER AUTHORIZATION. TRESPASSERS ARE SERVED NOTICE THEY WILL BE PROSECUTED UNDER THE US MILITARY CODE IF THEY PROCEED PAST THIS POINT."   It was faded.  There was a number to call.  Taylor looked at the wall, windowless for the first twenty feet off the ground, intact glass above it.  There were railroad tracks and a crane on one side and she had seen steel doors there.  "This hasn't been used in decades.  Whatever classification it ever had has surely expired.  And my company owns it." "You go ahead and unlock it." She looked at him.  "You know a lot more about this than you are telling." "I do." "Is this the real reason you are working remote in Millville?" "It's the reason they let me move here.  I found it when I was looking to do exactly that." "What's in there?" "I am sure my friends will tell you." "Are they in there?" Bizarre. "No." "You are enjoying this." "Unlock it. But don't go in." She did, and a klaxon went off.  She looked around. "I don't see anyone." "Just wait." Five minutes later a jet streaked across the sky. "Was that it?" He shook his head. Fifteen minutes after that was the faint thump-thump of helicopters.  Soon three Apache helicopters appeared overhead, circling.  She saw guns and missile tubes.  "Your friends?" "Some of them.  Just wait." Three big Chinook helicopters arrived, circled the building and then set down, together, at the same time,  in a triangle on the parking lot.  The klaxon was still going off. Troops piled out: Army soldiers in combat gear clutching rifles.  Someone bellowed "Secure the perimeter! Move! Move! Move!" And the troops did, some around the choppers, and the rest around A659.

All these beautiful people in my biography, I feel so blessed!   No fallout from the Facebook avatar thing, yet. I instantly deleted it, but I really do like the avatar I created. I'll have to recreate it when I'm more out to friends and family.   I guess they weren't dancing, one was blowing a birthday horn and mine was "like, omg, so surprised!"

This is what I'm seeing too. I hate it but it is the current reality.  I expect more trouble in the future since "they now have the perfect excuse to let go the brakes." Kinda funny how quickly things turned against us.  I don't think we can really count on the Democrats either.

I'm sorry, I don't want to be overly pessimistic, but I think to an extent the truth is irrelevant here. There is an absolute torrent of transphobes-were-right-all-along stories emerging in the wake of the Cass Review, not to mention the WPATH Files. These are coming not only from the usual anti-trans suspects, but from reputable newspapers like the Washington Post and the New York Times. (David Brooks in the Times: "Hilary Cass is the kind of hero the world needs today.") And while I'm aware that both those outlets have been leaning anti-trans for a while, they now have the perfect excuse to let go the brakes.   Ultimately, all that's needed for governments to ban these treatments is enough public support, and I suspect that support may be rapidly growing. Since I work with trans kids, cis folks often bring up the topic with me when they have "concerns", and I have been amazed at the number of otherwise reasonable people who have latched on to classic anti-trans tropes like social contagion or the idea that trauma causes transness. Whereas in the past they were generally convinced quite easily by my obviously superior knowledge, I'm expecting the task of convincing them to get harder starting as of now.

How we look in photographs isn't really anything we can control.  I've actually searched for answers and there are lots of good explanations out there like this one:   https://www.foxbackdrop.com/blogs/news/beautiful-photogenic-reasons-tricks-foxbackdrop#:~:text=Based on the light-creation,angular faces are usually photogenic.   The simplest explanation is a picture captures our image two-dimensionally when in real-life, we are seen three-dimensionally.  A person can be beautiful or handsome in real life but the two-dimensional image can be way different.  So, for those of us that don't think we look good in a picture, fear not.  We are much better looking in three-dimensions.
