Surgery to get shorter?

Height has always been a dysphoric issue for me. Whenever I think of transitioning and start getting excited about it, I think about my height and feel like giving up. I'm 6'5-6'6, and not done growing yet. My mom loves to make fun of my height, saying no girl is your height.

Recently I saw a news story where some guy got surgery to grow taller. Surely, if there's surgery to grow taller, there's surgery to grow shorter. I'm sure it'll be expensive and risky, but that's not what I'm concerned about, what I wish to know is if it's possible, and where I could get it done.

Thanks, Hayley.

I haven't heard of such surgery, Hayley. If it does exist, its probably extremely risky. Better to be a tall woman than a cripple, IMHO.

Dearheart,

I am 5'9', and i wonder if I am too tall sometimes. There is a transwoman at where I work who has completely transitioned. She is beautiful, she is very tall, she towers over me by at least a foot. Your height should never be a concern. Heck, the UCONN women's basketball team have people 7 feet tall.

Be who you are, and do not limit yourself on such concerns as height.

Love.

Hayley,

I was over 6' 6" when I started HRT six months ago. I am now a little under 6' 5"...YMMV...

Perhaps I'll lose a bit more, but I've already come to terms with my height, mostly anyway! lol..

BUT...

There are TONS of women our height and a quick Google search for "Tall Women" or "Woman 6' 6" tall" will uncover some very good looking tall natal females...

Ignore your mother on this, she has her own agenda, clearly... :)

Love and altitude! Svenna

In history, there has been one surgery guaranteed to make you shorter, its called beheading!! Thats about the only one, and it is risky and final, and will not help you enjoy life to the fullest any more. Definitely cuts your life short.

My boss, just before I retired was a 6'5" woman who was very pretty, and ALL woman. Two other women in the state office building I worked in were extra tall, or as I saw it, women I could look up to from 5'10 inches. One of them was a state appellate court justice.

Your mom is just short sighted on your ability to be a darn pretty woman without losing your head over it. (Puns intended.)

I looked it up, it seems there's a few experimental ones. But before you get excited think about what you're asking. In order to make someone taller you add on to them, but in order to make someone shorter you have to cut off of them. While medical science is getting better the human body is still very complicated and it seems most things are placed where they are for a reason. The one I saw talked about having pieces of your spine taken out and it said that it left you with a lot of pain for the rest of your life afterwards. That is you know if nothing goes wrong. If something goes wrong which considering it's the spine is very likely you can either die, or more likely be paralyzed with the lots of pain for the rest of your life.

So before you go looking for this surgery, I suggest going shopping. Go to the mall and find dresses and shirts and pants that'll fit you. You might have to check a few designer stores but I guarantee you'll find girl clothes that fit. Why do I guarantee this? Because there are a lot of tall beautiful women and their not running around naked. (Unfortunately :P)

Believe me, girl, you don't want to mess with your spine! It will likely develop problems soon enough on it's own, without being cut into by surgeons. The other thing--if your spine was somehow shortened any significant amount, then guess what--your arms and legs would appear too long and would be out of proportion to the rest of your body. So then THEY would have to be shortened as well--more extremely risky surgery!

I know you don't want to hear this, but I'll reiterate what others have already said: accept the fact that you're a tall girl, there's nothing wrong with being tall. And remember, you're YOUNG! A girl under 30 (for example) can begin HRT and the transformation will be miraculous. My point being, when you begin your transition, you will be amazed at how good--and feminine--you look, regardless of your height. And so will everyone who sees you!

6'-2" - and Sally claims 6'-3" - we both live as women. People ask if we are sisters (thinking tall girls run in the family).

Here in New Orleans I see taller women, 6'5" or so, in the African American Community, especially. I also lived for a long time in a college town that had a well rated women's basketball team, and volleyball team. So there were tall girls everywhere - some in the 6'10" range.

We do exist! The key seems to be to stay slim (although neither Sally nor I am that lightweight).

And guess what? We women - tall women - are what we are. To be seen as your true self, BE a woman!

I've read about those, and I've seriously considered it, even thinking of just getting paralysed so I can be short.

6'3 and standing tall here. This obsession with your height is unhealthy. You know it, I know it. Talk about it with your therapist.

I don't got no therapist no more. Parents didn't like her time, cost, or what she was saying.

Run, don't walk and see a board certified endocrinologist. They can block further growth if you are still growing. They can't shrink your height without causing you serious health problems. But they can stop you from growing taller. As you take HRT, you may notice some shrinkage of your height do to muscle loss. Kathryn

Hi Hayley,

I'm sorry your felling like that. I know I have felt the same way too. I am just little taller than you and it has taken me a long time to come to terms with being tall, but there are a lot of women out there that are as tall if not taller than you and I.

It's not hard to find clothes that fit in most stores and you could just consider not wearing high heels, I don't.

I wouldn't recommend looking into any surgery like this especially the kind that is very rare and highly risky. It is easy to say now that you would be ok being paralysed but I bet if it happened you would never forgive yourself.

I cant see this type of surgery being cheap either, maybe save your money and pay for your own therapist that will help you with more than just your height issues. That way you don't need to rely on your parents money or there blessing.

Take care and don't rush into anything that you might regret later.

I'm 6'5", on the plus size of weight and I seem to have guys coming up to me every couple days wanting to talk or comment on my height. I also have women comment, usually at the sink in the bathroom, about my height. It seems to be more of an asset than a hindrance. Of course being comfortable with my height probably had something to do with it, which wasn't easy. When I found out other people seemed to be okay with it, I became more okay with it.

If it helps, I'm mtf and 4'11" and I wish there was a surgical procedure to make me taller! :P

Yes, being tall can sometimes be a masculine trait, but there are certainly gorgeous bio women and trans women who are taller than most men. Like Taylor Swift, Uma Thurman, Nicole Kidman, and Brooke Shields are all amazing looking and also happen to all be 6'0" tall, literally!

If you're confident and proud of how you look, people will see that way way way before they ever notice your height :)

Another tall girl checking in. Six foot two, more in heels. I'm okay with my height.

I've found that dysphoria works both ways. Tall women always want to be shorter and short women always want to be taller.

You sound like a typical female to me! Just forget the surgery idea and learn to make your height your best asset!

6'3" here and while I would like to have been shorter I can also see some advantages to being tall - and the surgeries to adjust height are rather drastic.

There are some things in life that are easier to deal with than to alter and to me height is one of those, I will do my battle with my weight and without surgery there either.

Living the life as a rather tall lady in the Big Easy and that is just how I am treated, as a lady.

Stand up tall, enter a room like you own it and go ahead and wear heels if you want to - no one will care if you don't.

People are willing to accept you as you present yourself to them - if it as an apology or nervous they will want to know why, if it is just confident and natural - that is all that they will see.

Love ya,

Sally

Hayley,

I've heard of the same become taller surgery, though it was kind of a strange story, basically a guy in the philipines wanted to look as close to superman as possible, one of hist many surgeries included having steel (I think it was steel, might have been something else more safe for being inside the body) inserted into his legs, I suppose they cut the bone and filled the gap with steel to make him taller. I've often thought if one can get taller, why not shorter? Cut and remove a section of bone, reinforce it with steel or whatever, trim the muscles and tendons to fit the new size, presto, shorter person. I'm going to guess look for docs in the Philippines or at least Asia for this type of surgery.

But your best bet is to just get accustomed to your height. Next time your mom tells you you're too tall tell her that you're model size. Which is whast I've said for humorous effect to people who have comment on my height.

My niece is 6' 4" and she always wears heals. I'm glad you asked the question though because I have often wondered about this. In my simple mind I visualised a section being cut from the bones of the legs then rejoined with pins and they bind together again. Taddah!

Here is space for discussion on this, since the topic is large and could derail another thread SOMEBODY started.   Could some dear, sweet, kind Moderator pull everything related to this from the Voting for Trump thread and put it here?  I don't know if you can do that; I am the new girl on the block after all (blinks sweetly).

Good morning everyone,   It’s Thursday well as least I took my Thursday Medications as sorted out in my weekly dispensary caddy. Today’s coffee is Folgers Breakfast Blend served HOT, black and strong. My wife and I are going to explore the Western and Southern coasts of Saginaw Bay and hang out in Bay City, MI. today.    @Willowonce @Abigail Genevievepointed out the word usage in your post. I read it and laughed, enjoying the snarky tone of the comment. Since it was spelled correctly I thought maybe you meant for it to read just as you typed it. Then the kinder gentler me thought it would be better if I changed it. I’m not saying I corrected it, I just changed the severity of the sentence.    Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Amazingly I have found many cis women are absolutely wrong in their assumptions about bra fittings. I knew an elderly lady that said, "I have been a C cup since school, I just buy a bigger band size as my breasts grow." This is completely WRONG as the band should always fit snug with they gore firmly against the chest.    One of CNA's came into Torrid and I helped her pick out a new bra. She didn't even understand band size was inches and cups/band combo were based off Victorian shirt sizes.  She said, "how do you know so much?"   We found her proper fitting band size, then found a cup she fit.    How can people that take the vast majority of bra users know so little about them? Seems most cis women just use "try it on" only.

As has been said many times, this is not a black and white issue. Sure.  I get it that a MtF person that has gone through full male puberty and "transitioned" 6 months ago probably has an advantage in some sports.  But these bans affect elementary school kids too. I mean, banning trans women from Darts?  Chess?
