Body hair on HRT...?

Ok.. So i hear people all the time say...

"Don't get laser done on your chest or stomach As HRT may lower hair growth or even stop it"

My question is this. "How long will that take?" Like i know the (YMMV) thing and that's understandable but how about just telling me when you started seeing body hair get lighter or even spot growing.

Right now i know i am just starting on my HRT but it's nice to have a idea on when the body hairs starts going away.

ps... And what about arm hairs ? Do they get less dark and softer as well?

Hi Kyla

Of course everyone is different, and I started at the ripe young age of 52, here is what has happened with me.

I am coming up on my 1 year aniversary of HRT in a few weeks. I have seen quite an improvement with body hair, I started seeing noticable results in the first 3 months. Back hair (yuk) pretty much gone now, chest hair has been reduced signifcantly, however I do shave upper torso about once per week to be totally smooth. Legs saw quite an improvement for me, what does grow back there is so sparse compared to before, amazing. Arm hair while reduced, is still the most noticable, so I maintain my arms about once per week. My arm hairs have not changed color all that much, it just seems to be less (sparse) that do grow out.

I'm in my mid 20's and have been on HRT for almost 10 weeks. I had chest and abdomen hair but nothing like Robin Williams haha. While I have not seen a ton of thinning I have noticed mostly that the hair takes a lot longer to grow back and now when I pluck parts of my chest, the hairs just come right out. And usually once plucked mostly stopped growing back in. Arm hair has seen absolutely no change other that the slow down, I usually shave every 2 or 3 days depending on how lazy I feel.

The biggest change I noticed was with the Spiro, just shutting down the testosterone factories slows down hair growth.

In summary:

Before HRT: Shaved legs every day, shaved arms everyday, shaved face 2-3 times a day, chest every other day (mostly because I'd break out)

After HRT: Shave legs ever other day, arms every other day, face in the morning, chest I wax and pluck because it looks better :)

I'm really interested to see how other ladies have faired. I'm sooo sick of my chest and belly hair and wish it would all just fall out, waxing is at least not as painful as laser lol.

It took about 6 months in all for me. My arm hair is lighter/finer than my daughter's. I have no more chest/body hair than a cis woman my age. Actually, it's even less as I haven't had to shave my legs in years. The few hairs that grow I can keep up with by plucking a few seconds every 6 months.

HRT is amazing. :)

My results are about the same as those above. I wasn't very hirsute to begin with, but what I have now is totally manageable. I shave my body about once every 4-6 weeks, and it takes only minutes. The hairs are very fine and soft, even on my legs. It took about 6 months to see real change. Good luck.

Yup about 6 months for me too, doing laser or electrolysis on your body except for the face would be a waste of money if you are not on HRT.

Right lower leg - no laser or electrolysis, no shaving in over 10 years, no plucking for more than 6 months. Scars complements of the US Marine Corp.

I've not been so lucky with the growth, it's slowed down significantly (I shave legs once every week, arms once every two weeks) and chest/tummy twice a week. Been on Mones just over a year.

That would be me. I had A LOT of Hair. Like waaaay too much. It's not so much the Spiro. In fact, the doctors I got to specialize in Transgender stuff and one of them told me you can transition completely even without it. I'm on a very low dose of spiro and what I think is a pretty average dose of Estrodiol.

NOW... I shave my arms occasionally and legs every so so often. My hairs are light as can be. I couldn't believe it when I first noticed. It was one of the first cool things that happened as a result of the meds. Fat distribution... Still waiting on that... :(

I want to share on this one, I was a very hairy example. Your journey may vary. I wanted to see what was under all that body hair several times before HRT. Nair Max worked great but be careful to follow all the directions exactly and completely. Chemical burns are very nasty! Don't ask me how I know, just trust there is a sore red T-shirt in my drawer! Wow did I love smooth, though it grew back like lightening and I couldn't use Nair nearly that often under risk of sensitizing and never being able to use it again. I was shaving my legs with almost every bath. Depressing.

I started HRT and in a month or two about the time my breasts started growing noticeably the hair started taking a vacation. My leg shaving was a lot less. I tried Nair Max again and it lasted a week or more and the hair growing back was much more female. Encouraging.

Five or six months in, I saw major improvements. Then I was spending the whole afternoon getting ready for an event that I wanted to attend and I flubbed up, getting a very nasty burn that was all over the front of my upper body and baby I was on fire! Fire engine red! It only took an extra few minutes to get that burn so use Nair exactly as specified and wisely. I missed the event and lay crying in my bed most of the night. It took a half a week to heal so please be careful if you go this route. Painful lesson.

Just over a year into HRT I love the results. The hair is very small and light, grows very slowly and for the most part requires little maintenance. I shave my legs at the same rate as most females, I have cute female hair textured bush and my under arm hair path is small and female textured. I love it!

I use regular Nair about once a month with small touch-up shavings between if I'm wearing low cut or backless. Everyone is different. The most important point can make is; be patient during puberty and let God do the work. God has a million of us wanting to be prom queens overnight so cut a little slack. You will save money and enjoy the wonderful results I'm sure.

I'm not new to the removing hair roads and Nair "Burn" is one I have done been down :o I burned both my lags (BAD) and took 3weeks to heal...Could not walk for 9 days.

Along with that i waxed my face...."Post is on this site with pictures" And well... You can see how that turned out LOL

I'll wait my 6 months and get back to you all in how much my hair is gone... before that here's a small update.

---Close to 4months on HRT and My chest hair is about 98% Gone The lags hairs feel lighter But no change in re-growth, I just waxed my arm hairs again so i can say if there is any change but from about 1 week ago my arm hairs where about 20% gone, My Butt hairs are staying STRONG And i see little to no change in them...

My face hairs are growing less and even getting patching where before i would grow a full on lumber jack LOL

At 6 months I still have dark chest hair, I don't think it's as much as I started with but it's still there. Arm hair is thinning ish, I took a while to grow back once I epilated and grew back at about half density.

Upper thigh could use a little more thinning but for the most part my upper legs have gotten slightly better. I'm curious to know how everyone else is fairing. I'm hoping another 6 months and I won't need to pluck my chest hair anymore.

getting close to my 5 months and chest hair is about the same.. Maybe a little less but in all the same, Black hairs are really hard to see on my chest.. But they are there...But really really fine..

Arm hairs grow back less but can still get really long and gross looking.

I was a very hair person before i started (waxing/plucking) etc etc Many times when i first started waxing hair would grow back in just a few days. :o Now after 4+ months HRT and some more wax/plucking the hairs are very lite and grow back much slower. Now if only they Stay GONE!!! ;)

At 4 weeks on HRT (as of today), I think I'm starting to see changes in body hair. My arm and chest hairs seem to be somewhat finer and grow more slowly. Lower leg hairs are just about gone given that I've been epilating the legs for months. The upper leg still has black hairs growing but they are definitely already finer.

I didn't see any change at all in the first year to year and a half. However, I didn't get adequate drops in t-level from the spiro, and since I've switched to androcur I'm finally noticing major changes. A lot of chest hair is just not coming back, the stuff that is is really wispy, the stuff on my belly is growing a lot slower, and my leg hair is somewhat less and much slower growing.

So much to look forward to. Not having sandpaper arms would be lovely.

Hugs and thanks,

My experience has been: Legs shave about once a year. Seriously. The hair on the legs is that sparse. Arm hair is almost non-existent and trunk hair is the same. I think I first noticed that about 6 mo. to a year later. It was so gradual I did not notice.

Ok so it's like a little over 5 months so i guess a small update is in order =P

'Arms = Patchy spots with no hair, But the hair that is there is kind of long =(

'Lags = No real change... Maybe a little lighter and finer but no hair loss.

'Face= soft... The hairs feel a lot softer then before

'Butt= No change.... Little bugger just does not want to go hairless =(

'Breast Area= Well the hairs are GONE... But still some very very small black hairs are trying to stick around but you can only see them in the light at the right angle.

I got hair all over my body for the most part... And a good 80% of it is very light and can't be seen, But you can feel them. HRT looks to be doing it's job on the body hairs so my hope is in the next few years they will be all but gone

Now if it would only make the hair on the head grow :)

It can, although if you've got pattern baldness, you'd probably need an additional prescription of something like Dutasteride to help that.

My experience has been that.. my body hair grows slowly, and is much less noticeable. I shaved my legs over a week ago and didn't notice the hair that was there until I tripped running, scraped myself and saw all the blood covering the very white hairs on my legs.

@Claire-G

It does actually! I had some bald areas before HRT and they filled in quite nicely, my hair got thicker as it got longer as well. Hormones seem to play a fairly large role in hair growth on your scalp~

Though obviously if your hair is really dieing, like seriously poofing before your eyes you will be real treatments. But HRT alone seems to bring back hairs we thought were long gone, all within the first year for myself.

I have extensive male pattern baldness. After 10 months of Minoxidil and Propecia, plus 5 months of estrogen, the hair on the center top is coming in better than it has in years. It is still very thin and the "friar tuck" spot on the back of my head appears to have no follicles left to grow so nothing there yet at least. However, I remain hopeful that I can regrow enough hair to make hair transplants work for the rest. We shall see. :)

Good morning, everyone! I've finally pretty much finished with this head cold. I actually got 5.5 hours of straight sleep last night without taking any cold medication...or waking up to pee. I feel amazingly rested!!   Oh, @Willow, you are in my thoughts and prayers that your throat issue becomes less of a problem over time and not more.   I'm, hopefully, going to get our grass cut today. It takes me somewhere between 2.5 and 3 hours on the zero turn mower but the ground is still so wet that I'll have to slow down a bit. At least it's supposed to be sunny and around 60.   Have a wonderful day!!

We have had some real dillies come out as the initiative sort of thing, but as @Carolyn Marie said, very few make it out of the petition signing seasons.  I am not surprised at the origin site of this thing, it is probably one of only 3 regressive leaning counties we have in the state. We actually had one of these initiatives started to make it mandatory for police to shoot dead on site any Gay behaving individuals wherever they found them.  For the most part the matters are poorly written in ways to be unenforceable even if enacted.  Thus most never become law or get to the voters.
    • Carolyn Marie
You make some good points, AYS.  But there are usually already too many ballot propositions each election, so the proponents know it's best to wrap it all up into a nice package.  Plus, it's easier for the signature gatherers.  Otherwise they have to have a separate clipboard for each proposition.  Too much paperwork, dontcha know?   This kind of proposition is a loser in CA, so the only possible way the proponents can succeed is to give it the scariest title imaginable and try to put one over on the voters before they get wise.  Bottom line; an ice cube on a hot summer sidewalk has a better chance of success.   Carolyn Marie

Reading that article, it seems like the attorney general gets to call it whatever unless its an outright lie.  Given the nature of politics in CA, it seems like one side has the bully pulpit for sure.  Labeling it "Restricts Rights" vs "Protects Kids" is very much a matter of perspective.  Unfortunately, that matters since many voters don't bother to read.  Perhaps a better (unbiased) way to handle it would be to simply give the ballot measure a number with no title, forcing folks to read it.    I think it would have been better to handle the various issues covered by the ballot measure separately, rather than all at once.  For example, issues relating to disclosure of medical and social information to parents.  That could be its own ballot measure, rather than lumped in with everything else.  Besides, shorter and more succinct measures are more likely to be read completely.
