Thanks for the report Carolyn.

For this administration to come out our support at this time takes a lot of courage in standing up to the extreme right.

Its a puff peice aimed at gethering the vote of the emotionaly vunerable. His talk doesnt match his walk. with obama care there are medical advisory pannels. I see hormone tharapy FFS and SRS as being too expensive and one of the first things on the chopping block. remember we are a small persentatge of the vote we do not have any pull to speak of. I am not going to buy into his election year politics

And Romney has said he will work to strip rights of the GLBT community, reinstate Don't Ask-Don't Tell, and further defend the Defense of Marriage act against same sex marriages.

I can respect a vote for a third party candidate but if you're voting for Romney, you're voting against your own rights and for persecution.

These candidates are both idiots, but where did Romney say he's looking at taking away the rights of the LGBT community? And DADT and DOMA do not include T shockingly enough.

Obama may have made great strides for our community, but the rest of his report card is all F's.

I fully agree Karen. I have taken notice of our Europen sisters in terms of there gaps between appointments and wait time for referal. That is what obama care will do to us. Why do we need that?

Even w/Gov approval and if they picked up the tab, there are a limited number of doctors who do the procedure and a limited number of slots. The backlog would begin to grow, and would we lose control over choice of surgeons?

If we get Romney it will get a lot worse than it is now. I only wish as i read the posts here that we could at least get on a waiting list in this country. If you can't afford healthcare you are in trouble here. My wife and i spend 20,000 a year on health insurance and expenses. That takes the vast majority of our retirement income and we have to argue with our private insurance to pick up anything. Next year i get medicare and it should help us a lot. I hate to think what would have happened if Social security and medicare had been handled by vouchers as suggested by the consers. In my mind a vote for Romney or any republican is a crime against anyone who isn't a multi multi millionaire.

Hugs,

Charlie

Look at all the Dr's that are going to say there just isnt enough money in this for me any more. less dr's and longer line. it is very unrealistic to beleive the government can deliver what they promoice and do it better than expected. there is too much of a established record of failure going against them.

The law of supply and demand would kick in here, IMO. If GRS was included in health plans, more people would want it, and be able to afford it. Seeing more demand, more surgeons would learn the techniques and do the surgery. Right now, there aren't enough people with enough money to purchase the surgery, and so the current number of doctors is enough.

No one knows for sure what will happen. But is leaving things as it is really preferable? I think not.

Just a point. When I read that line or it's opposite "If we get Obama is will get a lot worse than it is now" I don't bother to read the rest of the post. Wanna know why? In over 20 years of paying attention to politics I have noticed that none of the dire threats posed by either side ever come true. In fact, nothing really ever changes in a serious way. At most group A stops being heavily persecuted and group B gets the screws put to them. When the letters of the majority change again then instead of group B we are screwing group C. Eventualy we get back to screwing group A when they get comfy again. It's a joke. A horrible wicked joke we play on ourselves. Pretending that the idiot in the White House makes a significant differance when they are bought and paid for by the same big corps.

The only change is the constant slow degradaiton of our quality of life and the value of our money as we spin slowly down the toilet bowl. No president will change that inevitability. Not even a minor party that is beholden to no major corps. The inertia is too great to stop it now so arguing over who to vote for is about as usefull as debating the number of angels that can dance on the head of a pin.

Sorry to be so maudlin but this is the politics section. Poli for many and Tics for blood sucking arthropods... Not a sunny happy topic to begin with.

The last "idiot in the White House" got us into a war we should never have been in. Perhaps you believe that if Gore had won things would have been the same, but I don't. There are a couple thousand American service members who might be alive if the White House had been occupied by someone different. Ask their families if it makes no difference.

Sure, there is lots of exaggeration on both sides. If Congress remains split between the parties, then disaster is unlikely. But I don't for a minute believe that the choice we make is pointless.

I saw a beater at the stop light with Romney political crap plastered all over the back. The one that hurt me the worst was "Religious Freedom". What? Freedom to leer at me in scorn, make hurtful comments, oppress me, make me feel unsafe and unwelcomed. I was not born like them, don't look or act like them, so therefore I should be stoned to death in a righteous religious manner as prescribed in the old testament. I so look forward to meet my Higher Power that loves me and cares for me. I don't want to be at their judgment day. Follow their dogma and creed for they are the privileged. I have a picture in my bedroom of a guy in a white dress named Jesus, I read his writings and none say vote Romney, he speaks for me. Jody

This is something we won't know for a while. There is already shortages in doctors in the country in fields like neurology and OB/Gyn. Once everyone is covered, either care is rationed or lines get longer. I have to book my neurologist 3 months out now. If its an emergency, I talk to a nurse.

You can't supply new surgeons to do SRS if they're off filling other spots with increasing demand. Is an answer to lower the standards for doctors coming out of college? The AMA has predicted a major shortage in a decade. This was prior to Obamacare.

Yes. There is some attitude involved too. Not mine. Giggle. I've never been treated nicely by a Romneyite with a bumper sticker, I've not met them all. I don't park next to them because I don't want a borrowed car to get "keyed". It's a fear thing. Jody

The last "idiot in the White House" got us into a war we should never have been in.

And the current idiot, who is in the same party as the optional idiot you mentioned, kept us in that war. Had optional idiot been allowed to win by those behind the scenes then he would have had the same war going on after 9-11. Can you honestly say that once the planes hit the towers he could have stopped us from going to war?

The war was wanted by those behind the scenes so they got the war they wanted. They wanted it to keep going so it keeps going. Four more of the same idiot or four with the new idiot won't change that. The war will end when the powers that be decide it ends and only then.

It's all a circus to distract us from the fact that we are as powerless as the mideval peasants who served kings.

This is why I think we need to scrap this whole democracy thing and just have a king again. I mean really, all this anger and bile tossed around because of letters after a name. My boss thinks anyone who voted Democrat is mentaly ill. I've met plenty of Democrats who would say the same of him. So much back and forth and all for what? So we can feel like we are involved in the government? All the money wasted on campaigns that would be better spent on the problems the special intrest groups want to solve. Imagine if all the anti abortion money that went to candidtes instead went to pay for the prenatal care and adoption costs for pregnant single women. Instead of no hope they get help from begining to end and the child gets into a home that wants it. But no, they spend all that money on politicians and for what? Nothing changes. Same with environmentalists. Imagine how much rainforest could be bought for the money spent on politicos? How many recycling centers could be built? How much real good could be done. But no, gotta spend it on politicos so they can campaign from lear jets and five star hotels. All to change nothing.

Ms. Gsptisnz, you and I will have to agree to disagree about the state of the world and the nation. I still find things to believe in, and I still believe that things can and will get better over the long haul, as long as a giant solar flare, a ginormous asteroid, or a mega-earthquake don't take us out first.

Agree to disagree. That's what makes politics such a horrid thing. It's not like a real science where you can demonstrate the facts in a labratory setting and show who is right and who is wrong. After all, you can't agree to disagree about gravity, let go of that glass and it falls to the ground. In the political world the neo cup cake who thinks the worlds problems are caused by jews and immigration can think he has the right answers as much as the liberal democrat who thinks the worlds problems are caused by the republcians thinks he is right. Of course they are all wrong because they disagree with me.

That is the real problem with the world. We all think we are right and our opinions should be weighed equaly with everyone elses when most of us are full of poo poo. We don't know enough about foreign affairs or economics to have a valid opinion on the matters of state. We are too busy living our own lives to have the time to be informed enough to know what is up. But we need to feel like our ideas are being heard so we don't grab up pitchforks and torches on the way to the courthouse instead of checkbooks next time taxes are due.

Elections are just the latest method the people in power have developed to keep the peasants in line. Two thousand years ago it was bread and circuses, a thousand years ago it was the Divine Right of Kings, now it's democracy. Nothing changes, the powerful and wealthy hold the strings and we live our lives trying to ignore the strings. You can agree to disagree about that, but in the end you are causing yourself stress and angst by thinking there is a practical differance between the two flavors of politician in this country. Our society has been so horridly divided over those political lines that marriages have ended, families have be fractured and freinds become enemies. All over which group of rich guys they think is better for the nation. So very sad. What a waste.

Carolyn in a normal free market econmy the laws of supply and demand would equal the playing feild.but the federal government has distuped this process all of our lives with the burocy already in place.

IMO obama care is unconstitutional as is many of the other overreaching powers that it has seized from the states over the years.

I could support the concept of obama care if implimeted on a state level and keeping the fed out of the picture. if that were to happen we would have 50 choices instead of one size fits all. that is my last choice when it comes to pantyhose or anything else for that mater. the free market solutions are to degegulate ang get the government out of the picture. Charlie talked about high med costs. that is because she can only buy insurance in new jersy lets get rid of the law that prevents buying insurance across state lines that would give get choice and compitition would bring down cost.

My big problem is that I see everything being centeralized with in the fed gov. medical, banking erergy and the econmy. history has taught us that this borders on marxism/socialism those are failing models that have never worked. look at the prevous ussr or Europe try to find a sucess story. we are seriously on the wrong road

now to get off the soap box witout breaking a heel or my butt.

When it comes to Gay equality the president should get some applause But when it comes to transgender equality,I do not consider banning us from military service claiming we are mentally ill , denies us of another job that has medical and educational benefits and gives employers an excuse to not hire us. When employers already in general will not hire the transgender. this is a policy that excludes us, this policy does discriminate against Rainbow Lynda

It isn't the President that makes laws. Although he might be able to sign some kind of executive order. The reason the military finds being transsexual is mental illness is because the APA classified someone who is transsexual as having gender identity disorder. This means that being trans is a mental illness as far as the military is concerned. However the APA just recently changed the classification where being trans is no longer a disorder. Hopefully the military will change their policy accordingly.

It is sad that we can't have more open and honest dialogue on these types of topics because there is worthy debate for sure. But instead we have become a country where the only goal is to seize political power and then legislate our particular agenda and views of morality.   Remember as you read my thoughts below, that I am transgender. OK? I am pro-trans. I am trans.   But my middle school aged daughter would be extremely uncomfortable using a school bathroom also used by a biological male, as would nearly all of her friends. That side has to be considered. It's not invalidating to a trans youth's experience to take that into account and hash out what is for the common good of as many people as possible. This is reality - one person's gender expression makes others uncomfortable, in all directions. And there is disagreement on the best way to handle these types of things.   Why can't we talk about these things openly, without the inevitable name-calling that follows, and let all sides have their input and work up suitable solutions? (I bet the kids, if left alone, would work up the best solutions)... Instead, we go straight to trying to pass laws, as if we need more of those!   And why wouldn't we want parents to know if their child has decided to change their pronouns? That's a big deal and parents are right to raise that as a concern. I certainly would want to know. Not that we need to legislate this, but I would have a hard time with school administrators who try to hide this from me. They are out of line. This is my child. Whether you like my viewpoints or not, I am the parent. Not the school.    Again, I am pro-trans. I am trans. At the same point, I recognize that validating a transgender individual's gender identity doesn't trump everything else in society. And sometimes I see that creeping into these discussions. Plus, we fight a losing battle if we have to have others' validation. We are never going to get it from everybody. Ever. Not even Jesus got it and He is God himself!   This country can be very beautiful as we each exercise our freedom to be who we are and let others do the same. But my freedom ends where yours begins and vice-versa. That requires self-sacrifice. Sometimes we have to fall back out of respect for others. Sometimes we have to let the parent be the parent even if we disagree with their politics.   My cry in the wilderness is just can we please have more open, honest dialogue where both sides try take the other's views into consideration and quit automatically going the legislative route to criminalize the other side's viewpoints.   Sorry for the rant but sometimes all of this wears me out... deep sigh...

Yesterday when I put that shirt on I saw a woman looking back out of the mirror at me.  Usually I have looked and been very frustrated because I see a man where there should be a woman.  I was expecting to see a man wearing a woman's shirt, but it was a woman wearing a woman's shirt.   On the spectrum between intersex and trans, I am more thinking I am a lot more intersex than trans, and it is only a matter of time before my wife says "you need a bra" and then "you look like a woman!" She told me whatever I want to do is fine with her, she loves me no matter what, and I am thinking that there may be a lot more for her in this than she could possibly expect. I'm not pushing it with her.

We have been asked to post this study.   I'm an undergraduate university student in my third year completing a BSc in Anthropology. I'm working on my dissertation, looking at languages with grammatical gender (e.g. languages like Italian and Spanish, nouns are either masculine or feminine). I'm curious if this affects/bothers people with gender identities outside the typical binary of male and female, like non-binary or transgender identities. Using this forum, I would be very grateful if anyone could answer the 5 questions I have put together in a Google form, they are open-ended questions, and you can be as brief or detailed as you want/comfortable with! All responses will also be kept anonymous. As you can probably guess, I came to online forums because finding participants in person is difficult. Talking about gender identities, I understand, can be very personal, so this online anonymised format can be safer. :) If anyone is also particularly interested in this topic, it would be awesome to message one-on-one and do the Google form survey. Having one and one interviews would also be good research! But NONE of this is compulsory, and only if anyone is interested and doesn't mind helping me out and can do so. I see more and more postings with what the LGBTQ support organizations are doing and I see less and less about helping the older generation of us. All I really see is them wanting to help transgender youths and no matter how many times I ask for help, they tell me they can't help or they tell me the office I contacted only works with the youth only. Is there an organization that helps older transgender people? All I find when I do a search turns out with nothing more than talking about trans youths. I feel as though us older trasn folks are being left out. I applied for financial help in a form of a grant, twice, and was turned down with no explanations of why. They did ask me to help go over applications which told me I was automatically denied. Really doesn't seem fair, does it?

Require students to use bathrooms that align with the gender they were assigned at birth Prohibit transgender girls in seventh grade or older from participating in girls sports or other girls-only activities  Ban gender-affirming health care — including surgery or hormone treatment — for transgender students under age 18, even if parents consent or the treatment is recommended by a doctor Require schools to notify parents if students change their pronouns or otherwise signal they identify as a gender other than what’s on their official student records Doesn't look like it "protects" anybody.  It actually is about restricting trans kids rights.   The ways politicians name their bills etc. is a farce.  Most of the time they do the opposite of what they're called.

There's a lot of bad information out there.  People like the sensational stuff, whether it's true or not.   Too many people live in a news/opinion bubble.  My ex's late husband kept Fox News on 24/7.  It was always there in the background of their life.  There is something about "trans" stuff every day, and always negative.
