Decided on Voice Therapy at the University

Hello Friends

I decided to check into voice training at the University that I work at. We have a Speech and Hearing Clinic on Campus. Over the past year I've worked hard on my voice utilizing several products available.

But I'm a bit of a perfectionist. You can be letter perfect in your dress, makeup and all and one mispoken word or sentence gives you away.

They quoted me a cost of $700 for the next semester, meeting twice a week for an hour with a doctorial fellow. 24 sessions in all and as a University employee, I receive a 10% discount. I definitely want to work on my feminine resonance. Pitch is relatively easy to learn. I've been told by the woman I've worked with that I can talk girl all day long. For 18 years, I was the only male in my laboratory. Working with just genetic woman only all day long, you soon begin speaking like the other woman especially after working 18 years in a very female oriented profession.

But I want to sound very female all the time. That is very important to me. What are you doing to improve your voice. Kathryn

I have neglected that part of transition to some extent. I've been told that my voice is ok but i'm sure it could be better. I do find my voice changing when i speak to strangers. At that point i seem to be aware of the need to change. Unfortunately i have never had musical training and feel that it may be a little late due to some hearing loss from years of heavy male work.

Charlie

I have no money to get professional help So I'm DIY. I have been studying all my girl friends and listening to women everywhere. My AA meetings are a good way to hear the differences between female and male. Male is much more monotone with sentences ending down, with finality as a statement. Speaking with authority!

Female is much more rhythmic, up and down and up, in the same sentence, usually ending up. As a question, sentences that inflections stimulate conversations, open ended for debate. That seems to be a reason why women like to gab so much and men only share information. That is an oversimplification. but not too far off the mark. Well that is why I love to gab?

I practice in my spare time at home, reading things out loud. I love to read my AA BigBook. After many months of practice, at a large meeting I was asked to read "How it Works".OK my big audition. Giggle. Hi I'm Jody, I'm an alcoholic, in my au drab voice. I then started reading as I had practiced so many times alone. It was so perfect, in my peripheral vision, I saw necks snap and jaws drop. I have no trouble convincing people I was born with both sexes after that! LOL!

I can do that a lot of the time, I still need much practice and study. When I speak with a smile it is so easy to do. I have difficulty yelling to someone en fem. Also sneezing en fem is a challenge, but I'm getting the hang of it. Bless me.

Sorry no free sound bytes of me here. If you want to hear my improvements, you will first have to PM me, then E-mails, then texts. We can then get to the phone calls. so you to listen and exchange your voice. As I said, I love to gab! Giggle. JodyAnn

You are very correct on many points Jody.

Woman en.d sentences on an up note and are melodic in their voice where men speak in monotone. Women also answer a phone in a higher pitch and keep that higher pitch if it is a man that they are speaking to, but woman drop their pitch when it is another woman they are talking to. One of the things I picked up working with woman all day is using my hands when I speak. My wife pointed that out to me. If you want to increase melodic inflection in your voice, speak with your hands.

Another habit I picked up working with woman all day is turning and facing other woman when I speak to them. Men won't establish eye contact, yet two woman talking and walking down the hall will turn their head and establish eye contact when they speak to each other.

I still find myself doing that. Making eye contact and often my hands take on a life of their own. I had to sleep on it before deciding to go ahead and sign up for voice lessons as it's $52.00 a week expense that I'll have to cut back somewhere else. But

i'll make it work. Kathryn

Ahaha. I'm a perfectionist too. I just checked mine and for my school it's $875 (Including evaluation)... Thanks for telling me about this. I was like... What? Does my school have that too? Lol. Anyways hopefully I'll be able to get insurance to pay for this.... Without my parents knowing... Lol!

Sneezing actually isn't a challenge. Well... At least to me it is... To do this think of Pikachu. I'm sure you heard of Pikachu. Before you sneeze think Pika and then when you sneeze in a high pitch CHU. My friends always say that my sneezes are incredibly feminine and cute for a guy so I guess it does work. LOL!

Thanks, I didn't have a spelling for it, but that works. I also constrict my airway a little to contain the blast and lift my tongue to keep the pitch. Giggle. Hug. JodyAnn

I have shared my doses and levels a lot and no one has said anything. Yeah I put alarms on my phone to make sure I don't miss a dose. I tend to forget a lot of stuff on what needs to be done. I have been also using the calendar on my phone a lot. I missed an appointment because I didn't put it in my calendar.

Feeling better than I did yesterday

It's official. My doctor wants me retested after the last results (too high). The test, that she scheduled, was likely too close to the dose. She did tell me to keep the increased dose instead of reverting to my old one, probably because my "too high" wasn't that high. I don't know what the forum's stance is on results, knowing full well the rules against sharing dosage, so I'll keep those under wraps until I know if it's OK to share those. Less to say, it was over the range she feels comfortable with by about 50%, but taken a day earlier than the midpoint value she was expecting. Grains of salt everywhere!   Of course I messed everything up too, missing my dose for the first time, yesterday. I had to re-reschedule the lab I setup yesterday to Monday from Saturday after taking my shot this morning to avoid the same issue with the testing. I woke up and thought, "Thursday, what do I have to do for work today? OH -crap-, IT'S THURSDAY! I missed my shot yesterday!"   Anyhoo. Question for the ladies: does anyone else get a mild zen-like high after their shots/doses? My brain feels lighter and I'm happier and I feel a lot more girlie this morning. 💃

I'm into my fourth month of HRT and just titrated up in dosage after my last checkup. This is my life. 🤭   I have yet to grow out of my B cup bras, but I have noticed more fullness, having started with gynecomastia. I am seeing less gapping in bras with my right breast, which has always been smaller than my left. My areolae are slightly pronounced/projected now, that are larger but not vastly greater in circumference, and I have noticed little to no nipple changes beyond their painful sensitivity.

-It's not a sprint it's an endurance.  -It won't happen overnight. -Seek a gender therapist. -You might lose a lot of support but hang in there. If they truly loved and cared about you they would stay. -Retail therapy helps and plus it builds your wardrobe and shoes. -Makeup is an artwork. It takes lots of practice to do it right and watch YouTube videos on how to put it on or someone who is knowledgeable. -You are going to have roller coaster emotions so don't rush anything.

You have grown more breast tissue than most some only get one size and that is it. I went from 42C to 42DD but I'm also taking supplements. It's risky to take the supplements but to me it's worth the risk.

I'd echo some of the advice in Imma Asher's letter in the book To My Trans Sisters:   Take your time.  See yourself. Be proud.  Be strong. Indulge in the transformation.  Read more.  Put down the brow pencil.  Live.  And be happy.

I hope that there is some kind of justice. It's very sad and it doesn't even mention the family and I could only imagine how they feel.
