So. I just got told by my sis who was looking into my closet like "OMG! THIS IS SUCH BAD TASTE!"....and it motivated me to make this post.

I have this weird thing where I never really had much dressing experience and that means I haven't had enough time to try out different clothings to know what looks good for me...

I have a pic on my profile which you can look to figure out how I look.

I have broad shoulders, 5'11'', not much of a bust yet, and have an average size body. :3 Trying to figure out what'll work best for those.

yeah, i don't have much dressing experience either, i know things i like that i sincerely doubt i can pull off

and i have a few ideas that i think will work for me

i don't know what to tell you except,

take a day off and take your sister with you and shop

take your sister's advise, she's been doing this longer than you!

The sister's advice is a very good idea!

She will be able to help you with what's in style as well as what will and will not work for you.

You mentioned tall (not by my standards - 6'4") and broad shoulders.

Most short girls wear shorter skirts (when wearing skirts) to make their legs look longer - you can go with anything from knee to mid calf and look just fine (ankle length is just too long for my taste unless it is a formal).

As far as tops go avoid anything that has a high collar and nothing over the shoulders - you know they look almost like a mock turtle neck ring around the neck and then spread front and back down to just under the arms - the shoulders are emphasised by being completely uncovered - tank tops are OK!

That's about all of the help I can offer from here. However, if you will send me a plane ticket, I will be glad to gome and help you shop (if you can get off of the beach, out of the Ocean or back down from the mountains!

Laughing here! My SO said the same thing about my CD wardrobe! I had just told her that my therapist said I was TS nor a CD. We purged all my 'ugly' stuff, some of it years out of date. (Liz so many initials - you aren't in chat now).

Now she is complaining about the size of the credit card debt! Ha

Secret from one of my good T-woman friends, dress well and buy expensive clothes, shoes and accessories. It make you look serious about your wardrobe and it impresses the competition (other women).

So did my S.O. go shopping with me? - yes- I used her experience in buying for a woman (herself) to help me out. However, I have been helping her buy her clothes for years, as she has no color sense. But I have no fashion sense. So it works well. I suppose if my sisiters lived near I might use their advice as well. Clerks help too if you ask the right ones - having a GG with you sorta puts their fear aside that you are strange, I mean this woman you are with trusts you... And if you have money and want to buy a buncha stuff- oh baby they love you even more.

And I am tall - and was oversize (lost 32 ponds since - but still tall) so we started shopping in the large woman's clothing stores. My SO is full sized - large chest - and also shops these specialty stores. Now those clothes are too big for me - which is a curse and a blessing as I can shop the women's section in regular department stores, except pants, which I special order. The disadvantage is I don't always know my sizes. It can be a little awkward trying on items now - especially as I am not out in public.

And it seems most large woman stores are accustomed to selling to guys - wonder why?

Fashion advice - not me honey - I had cut class when that topic was taught - but I do suggest buying a book on dressing for your body type. Might help.

Just so you know where my comment on the top type - I photograph weddings and the brides - genetic girls -haven't a clue about what looks good on them. they buy whatever is in style! I am not genetically female and my clothing sense was developed to look male - but Iknow if you are very overweight and have shoulders like a linebacker - don't go sleeveless! Hours spent retouching rolls of fat, hearing , "My arms look fat in that one." "No sweetie, your arms are fat I just managed to hide them in the others!"

Yep, those natal females don't necessarily know how to dress either - and watch out when they drop by and are expecting! Yikes! Tastless takes on a whole new meaning!

Some things accentuate your better features, go with them - some woman with broad shoulders look very feminine some look like guys in drag - that is just the way it is for GG or TS - the trick is to find out which you are and select your clothing with that in mind.

I have lovely rounded shoulders and could wear haalter's and any other top that I like - once I get rid of the small patch of hair around the shoulder blades on my back! Old age can be so cruel - that wasn't ther just about 9 years ago!

Wear a feather boa. It totally distracts the eye from looking at broad shoulders.

I just went into a wal-mart/target/kmart etc, and found some things that I thought looked okay and tried them on. Then, thanks to watching the show "What Not to Wear", looked at myself in the mirror and said "okay, how do I really look in this? what do I like about this? what don't I like about this?" and the most important question after all those "what can I wear this with?"

I ended up with a great pair of jeans (after trying on several) and a nice tunic-style top.

Know what your good body features are and what your not-so-good ones are, and then find clothes that emphasize the good and minimize the bad. My tunic top is great for that. It has a low neckline so I'm showing off the chest, and it has a tie that wraps around under the bust and ties in the back which also puts more emphasis on the chest area, meanwhile kind of minimizing my tummy area.

and I loooove spaghetti-strap tank tops! Plus with wearing tshirts too much, wearing tanks gives me a chance to get my upper arms tan!

So in a roundabout way I suggest just going into a store and trying on clothes. Bring a friend and do it together. Besides, women talk in the dressing rooms. You may even get a stranger's opinion too. (I hear it happens but it hasn't happened to me)

Hi CharliTo...Liz is sooo right, better 1 GREAT bra than 10 'almost rans', quality will survive long past shoddy items useful life. I like greens, pinks and pastels...so that is where I gravitate towards. O.K. true confession...can we talk? I do have a tartan skirt...it's the real deal and probably took 20 yards or more of material to make, it has sewn-in pleats...ahem and it's rather modest as it's mid-knee length on me. I don't look like a 'schoolgirl' with it on at all, any color top that goes with a red tartan is good with it and it looks great bare legged, with hose or cable socks...versatile? YOU BET'CHA. Buy things that are easy to care for...wash and wear...DON'T buy something that says 'Dry Clean Only' and expect it to be ok after washing it...even if you use Woolite. LOL. Dry Cleaning is so expensive and who needs the aggravation? I like V necks as I have a bit of cleavage and I'll wear sleeveless as a nitey but I personally prefer some sort of loose sleeve or 'cap' on the shoulder for dresses. Only buy one LBD..and girl you NEED THAT ONE DRESS...do not grab just anything...make it THE ONE...it should just ooze who you are...it may take a while for it to find you...LOL...I have to keep mine under lock and key...it constantly taunts me...I forgot where the key is<<<ARGH>>> Be a judge and jury...I have things that I wore as niteys a while back..ahem...that actually look really cute with leggings now that it's winter here. If your sister is THAT cool missy...you gals go shopping...but set a spending limit before hand...it's a way of life. Sometimes my feet hurt from the 'quest'...good thing I wear sensible flats Kelly Ann

Iiiiiiiiiiii haven't had the courage to go shopping with someone yet. Much less, I haven't really gone "out" in public. (The only time was Halloween and that doesn't really count) ...which is why I go for the Ebay online shopping experience. :3 I am...in severe lack of female friends outside of the computer so friends might be an option later on :3. (I guess I could bring a guyyy, but just bringing my guyfriends to shop ANYWHERE makes them bored :3)

Also, me being the punky dorky one and my sister being part of the high school popular girl clique, our styles reaaaaa-eeeeee-ly is different...and I think we'll just end up fighting like we always do. :3

Hrm...all those shopping advice is great though...I hope I can do it soon ^^.

When I'm out in public, the only place I can shop for girl's thing w/o problem is Hot Topics X-D That place is usually kinda unisexed with a lot of things anyways so whenever I pick girl shirts or jeans to try on, they don't say anything at all .
