I enjoy poetry, but I am horrible at writing it with a rhythm. I recorded a reading of this with my guy voice to serve the purpose of giving my voice a break and because I think it carries much more weight if the user pictures a male-bodied individual being the first-person.

I was feeling a bunch of emotions yesterday and I couldn't sort them all out, so I wrote this to help clear my thoughts. It is definitely trans-themed.

She stares at me,

Hurt reflects,

Pain,

Fear.

Anguished from years of abuse,

I try not to see her,

I look away,

I try to ignore her.

I look back up,

Remembering when she was beaten,

Exiled,

She wants to come back.

I won't let her,

She begs,

It tortures me,

But I know who she is.

I look at my hardened hands,

Rugged,

Slender,

Scarred.

An image of myself.

She asks me,

Why was I never allowed,

To be around people?

They did not want you.

She promises,

She won't hurt me.

If I let her back,

She will disguise herself.

Frustration floods me,

I panic.

I am not allowed,

To be angry.

I lash out at her,

She cringes,

But,

She is used to it.

The image shatters,

More cuts,

More scars,

My hands reflect me.

Her eyes mirrored,

A million little times,

No tears,

Just one word.

When?

Growing ever more restless;

more insistent

From a mirror

She peers at me

Pleading; demanding

Crying.

"Free me."
