Passing Advice?

I don't comment on photos much. Partly cause I can tend to be too analytical and often that reads as harsh. It also hard to judge overall impression from a photo, but the mood struck me so here goes.

The hair style looks totally workable. No issues with them giving you something that looks too male.

Don't know if that is natural hair color or not, but it looks natural so if it is, you have a great color and if it isn't natural, the color goes well with your features/complexion.

Correct me if I am wrong it looks like you have a common challenge with some thinning hair/widows peak on the right side in the image and the style just went with it. A very common solution that works and I could be wrong and reading too much.

You might want to try getting some profile vies from right or left or at 45 degees from forward. These are common views others will see you from and these tend to be tougher to get looking good. On the other hand, I tend to think pure 90 deg profile views tend to be harsh (never liked mine) so not necessarily anything to get too worked up about.

Pretty much the same hair style I have and today I have a hair appointment too. My mirror is still in one piece, so at least it can stand how I look!! No major problems being seen as female (which for me is crucial). Bring the pics on in here to your gallery!! Hopefully your hair will hold the curl. Cute. The trick you will have is keeping it boy when you absolutely have to. (I was there once!)

It looks very good and as Drea said the color is beautiful as is the cut and texture. One thing I would maybe suggest considering is how bangs would look. They make a clip on or extension you could try to see if you liked without cutting your hair but I have noticed more and more how much higher men's hairlines are as mine has climbed. It was always seen as high for a woman but has retreated a couple of inches. And the higher it got the more I was seen as masculine. Just one of those unconscious clues people go by I think. Bangs are just feminine and also bring focus down to the eyes. Most of us have eyes that proclaim our gender loud and clear.

Anyway-as I said I like it and the bangs are just a suggestion

Absolutely, bangs are good and in my opinion are good for helping the profile. The challenge for many MTF is thinning hair can make bangs seem impractical, but sometimes what seems really thin, with the right tricks can work. Pulling hair from the back can help. Also, and I know this one sometimes is tough to think about, shorter hair won't pull hair down as much allowing more lift and coverage of bangs (for the hair challenged). I've found a face frame style cut with bangs works well but just a little growth they get too long (the bangs) which can be a pain so I have some variations that work as it grows out till next cut.

Or as mentioned, I seen clip-on used very effectively.

I have to wear a wig but have found that showing less forehead is definitely a feminine clue. Bangs or a sweeping wave can soften that area. i once heard a feminist saying women's styles had that feature so they would seem to have smaller brains than men. I always thought it was to hide the fact that they had more. A subtle difference but a good one. You could perhaps thin the brows a bit but overall i think you look great. Get out there and enjoy.

Charlie

Hi Emily,

Your photo looks good, but I always tell people to concentrate on Confidence before appearance, even though appearance is important.

Even myself, I do not pass completely and am obviously a TG Woman, but people always respect me as a female.

I have not yet even changed my voice.

A good personality and smile goes further in my acceptance and covers some of my "flaws".

I wish you continued Success and Happiness in your Journey.

Hugs,

Carla

I know that passing is just not one thing. It comes down to confidence, body language and attitude. I am still working on the confidence issues (body dysphoria really stinks btw) but doing what I am doing right now is helping me in this area. I know I have quite a ways to go but taking all your suggestions will get me there one step closer at a time.

One piece of advice that helps many transwomen is to avoid center parts and to incorporate bangs. Others have already mentioned this as well but it tends to help a great deal.

My comment is that if I had as much hair as you, I'd be arranging an appointment with a hair restoration surgeon to see about hair transplants. You look pretty good at this point but a small frontal hair transplant to improve the frontal hair line even more would simply seal the deal.

Agreed. Even though I kind of violate that rule (I'm still trying to find a good way to get my hair to look close enough to the way my stylist can get it!), the best way to cover up the typical male hair line is bangs (or a sweep-over look...all depends on your personal style...and remember to try to look your age...).

I will say it's a great start, you just need to work on the temple area coverup (unless you're like me and don't give a crap about looking "female" and just want to look "good"). Nice color and great texture!

Bangs. The horse is dead, but I'll second everybody else's motion :) I'd also add that you should experiment with your hair in the mirror and see what looks more feminine.

Eyebrows. Thin them out and arch them like women do. I know that it can be hard if you're not full time, but do what you can. It really helps.

Makeup. It really helps, especially eyeliner and mascara. Foundation, concealer and powder also help a lot.

Also, don't smile so hard and show your lower teeth. Relax your neck muscles.

Finally, I don't know your age or location, but look at what women your age are wearing in your area. You might be doing that already, I don't know, but if not, definitely emulate people your age.

I have three pictures in my gallery showing the clip in bangs JJ and Drea mentioned --

One shows them on me, the other shows me without, and the third shows the clip part of it.

That stinks that nothing transferred, and no bookmarks were saved!

I'm doing patches for now but I think soon I'll go to shots because it's hard to alternate when you are doing two .1 MG patches at once. Unless she gives me Estradiol and progesterone

My view is we are "dependent" on government, because as a society, we are too lazy to stay actively involved. So, we let politicians do our bidding for us.  I think we'd be in a better place government wise if we policed the actions of our politicians.  We elected them; they work for us.  Sadly, we are allowing them to run amok.  We are where we are because we have chosen to let politicians make all decisions without us.  Remember "by the people, for the people?" That was the intent of our democracy.  Today, however, it is "by the politicians, for the politicians," the people be damned.

"Play Ball! Batter Up!" is the closing line of the National Anthem as far as I'm concerned. It's the call of the Home Plate Umpire and signals the start of the game. I grew up in the TV and Radio broadcast of the St. Louis Cardinals. Harry Caray, Jack Buck, Tim McCarver, and Mike Shannon, were the voices on my transistor radio. KMOX 1120 AM pushing 50,000 watts of Class A clear-channel non-directional signal. It could be picked up all across MO, IL, IN to the East. KS, OK, CO to the West. IA, MN to the North, and KY, TN, AR to the South. There has always been a rivalry against the Chicago Cubs, in the National League. As for the American League, I have to pull for the Kansas City Royals. I've also been a Little League Umpire, and fan of everything the Little League stands for. Going to Williamsport, PA and seeing the Little League World Series is in my top 10 things to do on my bucket list.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Good evening everyone,   I don't think my mother ever cooked a meal that I didn't like. We also had a kitchen where mom fixed the food, dad filled your plate, and you eat it. It wasn't until our baby brother was born that we could have Pop-Tarts for snacks. Before that all snacks had to meet mom's approval, and in her opinion wouldn't prevent you from eating supper.   Well my day started off on a good note, but has become frustrating because my IT person didn't transfer my saved videos I use for teaching. Then I found out that they didn't save any of my book marks for websites I use frequently.   Best wishes, stay motivated,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

The number is relative to method of deliver, the time of the dose, and when the blood is drawn. However, I do want to keep away from DVT and other potential issues. I assume I may be getting backed down from my current dose, but my doc told me to stick with the higher dose, so? I also wonder if this has anything to do the my breast growth and mental changes that have been happening over the past few years, like I have some estrogen sensitivity so a little goes a long way or something? I don't have enough data to postulate, but who knows!   With weekly, subcutaneous, shots you expect to see big swings of serum level estradiol from shot to peak to trough. My doctor is interested in mid-week testing (for E and T levels only), which would be post-peak blood serum levels but they will be higher than trough. Most, if not all, resources I've seen online is to measure at trough (which I might do just to do it next time) along with a SHBG, LH, and other metrics.   This is from transfemscience.org for Estradiol valerate in oil, which is very spiky compared to some other estradiol combinations. It's also for intramuscular, which will have a slower uptake and is usually dosed in higher volume due to the slower absorption rate from muscles. They don't have subcutaneous numbers, which I would expect to see similar spikes but higher levels at similar doses due to the relatively higher absorption rate direct from fat.   Are you doing pills, shots, or patches? And when you do get your levels checked are you getting that done when your levels are lowest or some other time?

Both of my parents were from the “North Shore” of Boston.  My mother Lynn and my father Swampscot.  They had an early 1900s Scots-Irish New England diet.  My sister and I were born in the 40s in Ohio well away from New England seafood and in an area where food was more German and Polish.  My first experience with liver and onions was during basic training.  They ate salt cod but never forced us to eat it same with oysters.  My dad ate oysters but my mother wouldn’t.  Anyone who ever ate an oyster can figure that one out.  I grew up eating lamb.  My wife won’t touch it. I love brazed ox tail, again no way. And the list goes on.

My mother was German, so yes, I think it was a cultural thing.  If I'd known you when we were cleaning out my mother's place, I could have sent you her "threat jar".

Wow that is a high number for Estradiol good grief! Testosterone levels are better than mine. I don't remember my Estradiol level but testosterone was 80. To me that is really high but it was in the two hundreds the check in before last one.

I don't understand why this would make a difference being a "dad" I mean, as far as how they would grow.

I don't see why not. I have worn forms since I came out.

I have never worn breastforms, but I assume as long as they don't aggravate your nipples you could.

Every week I've been excited to take my shot, so it's never been an issue. Yesterday, however, I woke up and started my usual "slow roll" and then suddenly realized I had breakfast plans that I had to rush out the door for. After, it was straight into work calls, and then I got the notification from the doctor about things being too high and all the while my mind had completely slipped that I needed take my shot.   Given that I am not asking for medical advice, but sharing my journey, I will note my results: Estradiol at 447 pg/mL and Testosterone was 23 ng/dL, up and down from 26 pg/mL and 526 ng/dL respectively before treatment. Almost flipped the bit! The doc would like my Estradiol closer to 300 pg/mL, so we'll see what Monday's tests state.   Oh, and I teased the dinner with old soccer teammates and never updated the thread! It went well. There were a couple funny moments. One guy, who I was worried about their response, greeted me with "Hey, you've lost some weight!" 😎 And a friend who lives near me picked me up on the way to dinner exclaimed, after we learned one of the invitees might show up with a date, "Wait! We could have brought women?!" To which I instantly responded, "You kind of did, bringing me!" Everyone got a good laugh out of that. 😁
