Trying to gain weight

Hi! it's been a while since i visited the forum, i was quite busy at school, but i'm back! anyway, i want to know what to do to gain some weight, i'm stuck at 65Kg and i'm 1.8m tall and i honestly don't know what to do, i eat lots of bread, and fatty things, but i just don't gain weight, i've had medical exams done and they say everything is fine but i am just on the edge of underweight in the charts, doctor said it was my metabolism working very fast, and blood tests all indicate normal levels of everything, no desnutrition or anything alike, so i am not sick, and well, i eat a lot of everything actually, not just bread, but i dont gain weight!. it all may be normal medically, but i look really thin, is there any way to gain some weight? i've read that hormones influence metabolism, so when i star on estrogen, may i be able to gain some weight? i mean, i don't want to be super fat, just like gain 2 or 3 Kilos so i won't be so on the underweight edge, i am actually afraid that if i skip a couple of meals i will loose weight because of the thing with my metabolism and now become sick because of underweight. sorry for not really knowing how to use underweight, never used that word before!

what sould i do?

thanks!!

About the only thing that comes to my mind, is to work with your doctors, and if they say you are healthy, believe them!! If you can, bring your worries up with your therapist, the worries are going to do more damage than the low weight, and in fact may be causing some of the problem. Weird, but it can happen.

I agree with Vicky. If your doctors say you are healthy please do not be concerned. So many would love to be a bit small rather than overweight. Also to answer your question E does often cause a bit of weight gain but it really depends on your level of activity. As we loose a bit of muscle mass we burn fewer calories. I have found myself eating less but it may also be because i'm getting a bit older. Try to relax and enjoy your body as it is for now.

Hugs,

Charlize

Hi! thank you both for the replies. So i am thinking now about seeing a nutritionist and ask for a diet that could increase my weight just a tad, but also thinking about what E can do when i start on it, so should i wait to visit the nutritionist once i start on estrogen, or should i go now? i know that by being healthy and that is not the best to try to change it, but i can still be healthy at 68 or 69 Kg and that extra weight could help rounding angles in my body shape, that's what i would like.

My recent visit to a nutritionist / dietitian gave me the information that it really does not matter about the hormones as to how much you should eat or procedures to gain or lose weight. (In my case lose). It is where you are at as far as current weight and body height and some bone issues, and where you Medically need to go. In my case to drop pounds and keep my blood glucose and blood pressure under control. All of those are separate considerations. Unless a doctor has prescribed a weight management program and goal though, the best they can do is give very general information. I still think you need to schedule some time to discuss your weight anxiety with a counselor so you do not set yourself up for failure. Go to the nutritionist before HRT if you can schedule it, but be up front with what you want to do.

Oh, thanks for the information Vicky, i will consider an appointment then, not so sure about the counselor part since i have yet to find one that i can freely talk to about what's on my mind, it's like no one in this country knows what to do but basically tell me i'm crazy or going through a phase... i think i can talk to the doctor about my weight and see what she thinks i should do without getting to the other topics just yet. I say consider because all those medical things make me feel quite uncomfortable to be honest, and it might take me some time to actually do it.

I have the same problem. When I checked my weight yesterday it was only showing 50 kg. I am 1.80 m tall (BMI 15.6), so I have strong underweight. I have always been like this and whatever I do - I cannot get any weight. I believe with 65 kg you're in a good spot. No need to worry about your health. You're perfectly fine. I'd be so happy if I only had 5 kg more.

Sara, I am similar to you in height and weight and I had never been able to put weight on. Now that I'm older (60+) I do have to eat carefully as I can easily add a few pounds to my waist which is not desirable. If you eat reasonably and exercise you might gain some weight (muscle weighs more than fat) but individual results may vary. Just focus on being healthy. That's what will get you through life and keep you young looking and flexible as you age.

Cheers,

Jani

hi , i am 1.87 m and 64kg so i know how it feels. i was as low as 55kgs at one stage and i have to take supplement milkshakes daily to try maintain weight. it still does not come easy. my problem apart from tummy issues is that i tend to forget to eat or i work long hours before stopping to eat . ive seen several professionals about trying to gain weight but they were of little help as they advised fatty foods and plenty of cakes etc etc but my tummy does not like such foods . if there was one food that i thought does help a bit its peanut butter .in fact a lot of nuts are advised to be good for weight gain .if you do not have nut allergies they might help you .

regards

Tara

In those dimensions, not even Sophia Loren could hold a candle to me. A Goddess....in my own mind. lol

So, just imagine how spectacularly beautiful you'd be in four-dimensions April.

That does sound hard to keep up with.  I use patches, changed twice a week.  But I have to have my phone set to remind me.  I just don't think about it.

Oh, I am drop-dead gorgeous in a totally different dimension @Sally Stone! :-)

Ladies, each of your comments makes me realize my decision to share my journey was a good one.  Before committing, I worried that my storyline wouldn't be of interest to anyone. I'm so glad I'm striking a chord with many of you.

How we look in photographs isn't really anything we can control.  I've actually searched for answers and there are lots of good explanations out there like this one:   https://www.foxbackdrop.com/blogs/news/beautiful-photogenic-reasons-tricks-foxbackdrop#:~:text=Based on the light-creation,angular faces are usually photogenic.   The simplest explanation is a picture captures our image two-dimensionally when in real-life, we are seen three-dimensionally.  A person can be beautiful or handsome in real life but the two-dimensional image can be way different.  So, for those of us that don't think we look good in a picture, fear not.  We are much better looking in three-dimensions.

This is your journey and no one here will judge you or bully you. This is a very accepting, non-judgemental place and you can process at your own speed. Having said all welcome Violet, we are glad you found us. I know we all look forward to hearing from you.

Good morning    I should not have said about sleeping in, now I have to go in 2 ½ hours earlier.  Oh well at least I. Off tomorrow and Monday, I think.as of now, hope I didn’t just jinx that too.     Hot today high 80s dropping quickly and rain to the 60s for a couple of days then more normal 70s.  It just depends on which way the wind blows. Off the gulf, hotter, off the ocean, cooler, out of the north rain and when they all converge, look out.  That’s today.   i made a pot of coffee but I think most of it is going to waste.  My wife went back to bed and I’m not good with coffee when I’m hot, and I am. That’s my fault, I was 4 days.late with my E again.  I just st have a really hard time keeping on a 10 day schedule.  And my reminders aren’t helping..   now I’m going to peak by tomorrow since it isn’t all absorbed in one day, I’ll hold fairly steady but if I’m late again I’ll drop well below my target yet again.     Im down in the valley, the valley so low But I see my true love, at the top of the hill i climb the mountain, but she is not there for she has gone back down, to the valley below   I didn’t come up with a refrain and with that I’m calling the guys with the padded cells. lol   Willow

Congratulations and Happy Anniversary!!!! A beautiful milestone.    I hope to see you tonight...I just have to stay awake long enough!!

It's funny with photos isn't it, how we think we look in them vs. how we actually do look in them! I'm hopeless at smiling and I have to try really hard not to frown or look like a zombie. I'm never sure how I come across to others.   I had a moment late last night when my eldest daughter facetimed my wife for some now forgotten reason, and when I was handed the tablet and talking to her, I was fixated on my image in the corner. My hair was wild at the time, I was a bit tipsy and all I saw was a woman! I have no idea what she saw in that context. I'll probably never know.

I hope to see you on the Zoom meeting tonight, April.  I might be late, since I am doing lights and sound for a play that opened last night.  I was home before ten last night, so I think I'll be able to make it.   Today is an anniversary for me.  Seven years ago today, I stood up at the weekly community kaffeeklatsch as <deadname> and announced that henceforth I would be Kathy.  It went as well as I could have imagined: there were some surprised looks, but no hostility and lots of support.  A whole layer of stress disappeared that day and has never come back.  (There have been other stresses, but that one is gone.)  I have been me full-time ever since that moment.

This is a scarily accurate description of what I feel!   I hope I don't sound too schmaltzy by saying this, but I remember when I signed up to this forum last year, during the sign-up process the question is asked, "Why do you want to join TransPulse?" to which I wrote, "Looking for a home where I can freely write about my issues and interact with similar people."    I think I just found one. ❤️
