Sometimes Change Works Out for the Best

I've been going to the same nail salon in the mall for 4-5 years, even before I transitioned. I came out to the nail tech on my first visit, and they've been great to me ever since. They even remembered my name!

Last Thursday I went to the mall for a mani & pedi, and the salon was gone. The mall is getting an overhaul, and I think they were forced out. Anyway, I used Yelp to find a highly regarded salon that was just a few blocks away. Wow, was I surprised at all that I had been missing.

The old place was pretty bare bones, with plain chairs and buckets of water they would carry over for the pedicures.

The new place? Plush upholstered chairs with built in massage machines, built in pedicure tubs with faucets, T.V., nice piped in music, and the techs even have use of electric callous smoothers. Best of all, the tech that worked on me smiled, paid attention to what I had to say, and if she noticed I was "different," didn't let on one bit. Last but not least, my mani and pedi still look perfect five days later.

Making a change can be anxiety producing, but sometimes you never know what you're missing out on.

One of the true pleasures in life is setting the message chair in a random function message, closing my eyes as one foot soaks as the other is being scrubbed. By the time my toes are finished its hard to walk. (and it not just the spacers between the toes)

Unfortunately while my toes last a long time i always chip and damage my fingers so touch ups start within a week. I'm about do to go again before cold weather sets in.

I know what you mean Carolyn.

I try to be more general in things these days as it is very easy to get emotionally attached to one particular shop or supplier, just because you feel it would be unfriendly to move on.

At the moment things are not perfect with my hairdresser. Up to now I have been going as male so have been getting somewhat male styling but I need to change the style. I strongly hinted on my last visit but I think she has a fairly blinkered outlook. As the salon is very close to home (and as they are - a gossips paradise) I am a little worried. Funnily enough I only started going there some years back as the old gents hairdresser who operated from the premises who I went to at the time moved away - I just stayed. I had never been concerned whether my hair was cut by male or female hairdressers at the time as I just had a 'marine cut' lol. Things have changed!

One of the things I love most about life is how something that seems to be bad at the time can surprise us by being something actually good. Both in big life altering ways and small ways. And really it is these small things that make life good.
