My niece and I were just discussing this. She told me that you have to wear the initial post for something like 3 weeks. I want to get mine pierced soon, but I have the same concerns.

She just got three new piercings one each side and I am so jealous!

I was wonder is there was a clear post by my niece said you want titanium one initially until you hole is formed and is healed. They you can try other ear rings.

Not sure that helps,

J

If your ears heal in 3 weeks you are very lucky. It took mine much longer to heal.

Small posts are noticeable and i remember trying to think of what i would tell people. I'm glad i listened to my wife who had perhaps the best idea. Instead of hiding wear a nice big post with some glitz. Funny i only got wows and compliments, went full time shortly afterwards and never looked back.

Hugs,

Charlize

Hi BobbieSue, I have had mine pierced since June, didn't try to hide it. Got a couple white gold studs. I have yet to take them out. When asked I just told everyone I had always wanted too and needed a change. Along with my much longer hair, which I wear in a ponytail now all my co-workers think I've gone hippie or hipster. Not a big fuss about it at all.

Hugs

My piercing studs for both sets of holes were simple gold spheres about 3/16 in diameter. No one associated my piercings with GD and this was 10 years ago, and really no one cared beyond their first notice. Mine had to be in for 6 weeks at first, and then for at least part of the day for a couple of years. I can now go for extended periods without them, but did buy some pink and blue heart shaped earrings the other day, although for me who cares.

Exactly.....Why hide it.

You see so many people from the full spectrum of gender identity that wear silver, stainless, and even diamond studs (like me, except mine are cubic zirconia sp?). Even where I live which is a non-trans friendly area, I haven't been given a second glance. It's just too common these days to worry about.

But I will say this, I had lots of trouble when it came to healing time. Four months to be exact. I tried taking the stainless studs out after 4 weeks and couldn't get them back in after one night. So try as I might I ended up having to force them (not recommended) into the hole. Left ear got a little infected, so triple anti-biotic morning and night. Probably took four months because I forced them back in......

Now I wear studs to bed every night (stainless), and then my zirconia studs most every day. I also have fake ruby's, emerald, and black faceted stones. I never to anywhere now without! Oh and I have a pair of sterling silver skull, and crossbones too. I got those on one of the online outfits, and when someone does look (mostly guys) they say "wow, were did you get those cool studs?" LOL

Seriously no worries.

Funny......the only one that gave me even a little grief was my 9 year old grandson. When he first saw the new studs his eyes got big, and he said "Oh NO Papaw not you too!" Unbeknownst to me his Dad had just put plugs in his ear lobes (ouch!).

So really, I seriously doubt it will get much attention at all.

I found that gold studs work best for me, the stainless irritate my ears, I can only wear them for a day than have to go back to the gold.

I got my ears pierced back in the late '90s when I lived in Maryland. I was kinda hippie looking with long hair so no one noticed or cared. It is even more common, and therefore a non-issue today here in California. My current favorite earrings are Peace Sign dangles made of Niobium (anodized so that they have rainbow colors). :)

hugs,

Stephanie
