Trans Republican: "My Party Has Betrayed Me"

This is amazing to me. They actually have an anti trans* platform.

The author of the article feels

"the Republican National Committee needs to rescind its recent resolution, which reads:

WHEREAS, A person’s sex is defined as the physical condition of being male or female, which is determined at conception, identified at birth by a person’s anatomy, recorded on their official birth certificate, and can be confirmed by DNA testing;

And, while they’re at it, this:

RESOLVED, The Republican National Committee encourages state legislatures to enact laws that protect student privacy and limit the use of restrooms, locker rooms and similar facilities to members of the sex to whom the facility is designated."

Hugs,

Charlize

I wonder if anyone has shown that platform plank to Ms. Jenner? The good thing (if there is one in this case) is that few people really care what's in either party's platforms. It's all politics, after all.

I still see much that I can agree with in the Republican platform, but I don't see why which bathroom one goes to has become such an issue. I like to go in, do my business and get out, if I have to use a public bathroom at all. At home there is only one bathroom , one with a lock on the door, and I can use it however I choose to dress.

God bless America,

Raz

The thing is you always have some one that needs to rail against something. There is always some one looking for a fight to be fought. Christian fundamentalist( usually what people think of when they think Republican) feel they have lost since gay marriage has been now  legalized in the United states. they now have to take up and bring the fight against some one else. We are just the next whipping boy/girl inline. The bigger a target we become in the media spot light the more shots that will be fired.

I really hate this subject. One can lose friends over this subject. Yet when you look at history, if you are paying attention, you can clearly see where people went wrong. How the good people helped the bad stuff happen, even though they didn't want the bad stuff. They just failed to understand that the person that was promising them all these great things, was putting the blame for the bad stuff, on an innocent people. And in the end the person making the great promises turned out to be a mass murdering, psychopath. And here we are again, with a bunch of people being promised of bunch of great stuff, yet not understanding that the person that is making the great promises, is a psychopath, with mass murderer, leanings.

Hello, Mickey. I agree politics often turn people into vile irrational people and set the stage so toxic that civilized conversation typically becomes impossible.

I am an independent thinker. my ideas are rarely ever popular with any one. but before I draw a conclusion on anything I try to look at both sides of the coin. Seeing things clearly in this day of media misconception takes a keen observer and some one with a sensibility that is neither to far left nor to far right. As of now those battle lines starkly drawn in the sand you are either on that side or that side and as this race tightens it is only going to become even more hostile between the two camps.

Wow!  So is this the pot calling the kettle black?   Hmmm...

I read the above posted article and what struck me was some of the logical fallacies put forward in support of the trans* position.  For example: "...but as the party of smaller government, these are issues, (bathroom/locker room access), they should be spending less time on, not more."

Yet it is the Obama Justice Department that is ruling by fiat in blatant defiance of the Constitutionally mandated separation of powers which clearly delineates and limits the power  of the Federal Gov't. to impose its will in the individual sovereign states.

Congress passed the laws, the executive administers and enforces them. One of those laws is an antidiscrimination in education law, which can be enforced through the Congress's  Constitutionally enumerated spending power. States can tell the Obama administration and the OCR guidelines to go take a flying leap, but they must be prepared for the Federal dollars they receive to go with them. A state can raise its own revenues instead if it wants to put its sovereignty as a higher priority than the legislated rights of its citizens.

I think we (every voting US citizen) are to blame. We've been to beholden to the two-party system for too long. We tend to vote the same congress in year after year, we elect these people not on their ideas but party affiliation. Anyone with the ability to be a great at the Presidency, looks at the mess and goes on to do other things--they'd be more effective..

"People can be very frightened of change." - James T. Kirk, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country

This line, although originally intended to help calm relations between humans and Klingons after the climatic shootout, applies so well in today's world. It's an ever-evolving and changing place with firm believers on all sides. We can find examples of it throughout history: slavery is outlawed and the southern states seceded from the union; racial equality in the 60s; women's right to vote to name a few. Each event carried the capacity to completely change the proverbial landscape of society and was met by heavy opposition and at times, unfortunately, led to war.

For us, it's the same thing. Our rights (bathrooms, health care, changing rooms, etc.) to live as our true gender carry that same power to change the global landscape. And naturally, there are people out there who would seek to deny us those rights. Given that the Republican Party in general is often associated with being conservative, it makes sense that they would be more resistant. Whether it's a lack of education, fear of what from their side would be the unknown, or an outright stubbornness that we may never fully understand, conservatives will continue to work against those pushing for our rights. And unfortunately, that could mean alienating their own supporters whether they're fully aware of it or not.

We represent a fundamental change to their belief system, and (in my opinion) they're afraid of that change. Only when they start seeing and accepting us for who we are will they start making the progress toward those changes.

PS. This is my first time ever to tackle politics...be gentle :)

? This would be what I am referring too. This over whelming need to fan flames instead of discuss and debate where politics  are concerned.

I could be wrong, but I am guessing that you are referring to Title IX of the Civil Rights Act.  Please correct me if I am wrong, but it is my understanding my understanding that Title IX precludes discrimination based on sex, not gender.  Nevertheless Obama's Justice Dept. has interpreted sex to equal gender.  It is my opinion that this is a false equation. Sex, (a biological empirical reality) is most certainly not the same as gender which is clearly a social construct.

You just have to ask yourself "why now ?, why at this time in history ?"

My guess would be that the Radical Left has the bit in their teeth and see this as their last chance to push forward on their agenda of social deconstruction.  What you seem to be ascribing to the "Big, Bad, Nasty, Republicans" is the reasonable push back of the Center Right. Hence the surprising success of such an outspoken, politically incorrect Presidential Candidate such as Donald Trump. BTW, I believe it was Mr. Trump who allowed a TG woman to participate in his Miss America Pageant a few year back.

As a former Democrat, I feel much the same way about the Dems. as the OP feels about the Republican Party.  Ever since the loss of Bobby and Jack Kennedy, the Democratic Party has moved steadily to the Left.  The current candidate is running on a platform of open borders, and free college tuition for all.  All this in the name of Globalism and Social Justice. It is my guess that the pushback to this agenda is the simple realization that this pie in the sky fantasy view of the world can lead only the destruction of the America we now enjoy.

I had forgotten all about that but you are correct. Donald Trump did allow Jenna talkova to compete in the miss America pagent.

I am glad your schools are flush with excess spending money, but that is not the situation here in CA.  Back in 1978 an Initiative and Referendum law was passed that limited property taxes severely and basically cut funding from Property Taxes to pennies of the amounts needed to even minimally fund school districts.  Even the U.S. Supreme Court which upheld the law on Federal and Constitutional grounds nevertheless wryly commented in its decision that the state electorate had lost its collective mind in enacting the law.  Our schools are funded through the State's General Fund which receives other tax sources for creating the entire state budget. The General Fund and the legislature try to give  adequate funding  to the primary and secondary school districts as well as college districts and other obligations all from the same limited funds. There are also strict limits on assessing property taxes that actually prevent them from paying for other services directly affecting property ownership which is their proper place, and so even property related services come from our General Fund. Your property tax money seems to be ear-marked for schools which is wonderful and I hope they use it according to your thoughts, but as said we have a different problem out here in CA.  I love my state but do recognize its short comings.  Point of information, the tax law that is creating problems came from the same small area of the state as the proposed referendum on Trans Youth.

The numbers of those negatively affected are significant and discouraging, but the good news is that "over half" of Trans youth live in safe states, and such states do exist.

Seems like a reasonable agreement.  Seattle stays out of Texas, Texas stays out of Seattle.  Weird that the Seattle hospital had a business license in Texas...

Seems to me the time and cost is already being spent....on lawsuits.  And schools are absolutely flush with cash, at least around here.  They get enough property taxes, they need to learn appropriate use of funds.  Buy a few less computers and a few more bathrooms, and spend less time on athletics and I'd bet you a hamburger that the issue would be solved in a year.   To me, it seems like the whole bathroom thing is like lancing a boil or a cyst.  A sharp initial pain, and done. People are just resistant to doing it.      I think I could solve most of it...but politicians get too much press off of this to want it solved.   1.  Universal use of individual, gender-neutral, private bathrooms 2.  Universal use of individual, gender-neutral, private spaces for changing athletic clothes 3.  Emphasize co-ed rather than gendered sports.  Focus on physical activity, good sportsmanship, and having FUN.  Lifelong enjoyment, not just competition. 4.  Ban for-profit athletic programs at highschool and college levels, and ban betting/gambling related to athletic programs at educational institutions. 5.  Affirm parental rights consistently, rather than treating it like a salad bar.  That means permitting gender-affirming healthcare with parental consent, AND prohibiting schools keeping secrets from parents.  Adopt the "paperwork principle."  If it is on paper, parents 100% have a right to know about it and be informed on paper, including names/pronouns if such are documented.  If it is verbal only, it is informal enough to be overlooked or discussed verbally if needed.

It would work better, but the issue will always be time and cost, unless a school district is building a new school.  Districts everywhere are short on infrastructure funds, so it's not a realistic solution in most cases.   Carolyn Marie

I have always thought that the solution to the bathroom question (as well as improved bathroom quality/privacy for everybody) would be individual, gender-neutral, locking bathrooms.  Not this wacky thing we insist on doing with stalls.  It wouldn't take much more space, really.  And it might actually work better.  Ever notice how there's often a line at the door of the women's room, but plenty of free space in the men's?  Yet the men's and women's bathrooms are usually of equal size/capacity?

I'm going to have to stop staying up so late at night...  Its after midnight, so technically morning.  So, Good Morning, y'all.   I got to go to work with my husband for the last two days.  I'm working on the graphics stuff for his company, so he said that nobody would really mind if I hang out.  I usually stay home, but its kind of nice to be somewhere different for a little while.  I spent part of the day at one of the company's installation sites... beautiful weather, so I worked on my laptop sitting under a tree.  And I learned something new - it is amazing how electrical wires are installed underground.  They're put in PVC tubes, and actually pulled through.  By hand!  Apparently a machine would risk breaking the wires somehow, so I watched a line of men literally playing tug-of-war with hundreds of feet of wire.  It was like something out of an old movie - my husband leading a call/response work chant and everybody pulling in a rhythm.    It does give me a bit of self-doubt, though.  Like, if that's what "real men" are doing... maybe I'm a poor-quality imitation

Can I just say quickly re the bathroom question, how come no-one ever seems to suggest building more gender-neutral toilets?
