"From This Day Forward" Documentary Monday On PBS

The documentary "From This Day Forward" is produced and directed by Sharon Shattuck, whose parent transitioned decades ago.  The show documents her family's struggles to adapt and remain together.  It will air on your local PBS station tonight, as part of the POV series.  In the L.A. area it will air at 10:00 p.m.

Here it is the morning after review.  A very sensitive and beautiful film by a daughter whose father crossdressed when she was a very young child, then transitioned to a lovely but difficult mixture of genders.  Well worth watching.  It will be showing on PBS on line as a POV presentation for at least this week.

I just watched “From this day forward” online and it was an interesting film.  It was a nice introspective of one couple and their family's life.  They struggle like so many couples, just not in ways most couples do.  Despite that they seem to have very rich lives.  They spoke briefly in the film about divorcing and I admit it is a hard bridge to cross for many of us.  I don't like talking about it because it is as if once the door is cracked open it could be easily pushed the rest of the way because sometimes humans end up taking the most expeditious route to solving a problem rather than working them out to find a best solution.  

 

Near the end Trish says she’s not entirely happy, sounding as if she’s resigned to the fact she might not be.  She admits to not “having resolved her transgender being” and seemed saddened that she probably never will, admitting to just getting by.  I have my thoughts on this but I'll leave to you to decide as to whether she is or not. 

 

I liked her sentiment that it is the little things that amount to what love is.  It echoes my thoughts on love that after the excitement has worn off we're left with the mundane routines of life, but it is the little things that make it worthwhile and special.   

 

I would recommend watching the film.  It is a quick 75 minutes.  PBS doesn't indicate yet what the end date with be for online availability so don't delay.
