Conservative Christians?

Recommended Posts

Sally

Hi,

I've been wrestling with this one for as long as I can remember, finally thought I would ask.

How can someone who is following the teachings of a somewhat radical liberal be a conservative - it seems to be quite a contradiction of terms.

I would be interested, particularly in the conservative view that helping the poor is not really an obligation, along with health care.

How can socialism be such a horrible word to Christians?

Just things that I have always wondered about,

Sally

There is certainly a problem with "cherry picking"  short snappy verses from the Bible to build your faith on.  Jesus did say in The Gospel of John at chapter 12, that "the poor will be always with  you" in rebuke to Judas for a comment on why Mary of Bethany did something nice for Jesus, who knew his time was getting close.  This is taken way out of context today as a reason to not serve the poor and help them.  I have already literally heard this from some church folks that if it was good enough for Jesus to not help them in one special instance, it is good enough for today's folks to follow in all circumstances.  The are shooting at the side of a dang big barn from 3 yards away and MISSING.

One of my co-workers asked about in the off hours. we were looking at some asian art including some representations of hindu gods (she was raised in India). My response was that I was christian, but I do not believe in organized religion. I find that it detract from what being christian means to me. I also told her I felt organized religions all to often require their congregants to be more loyal to the organized portion religion than to God.

Excellent point @MarcieMarie12 .  I have been told several times that "Heaven" only lets in certain denominations for sure.  If I mention my denomination it becomes "iffy" that I will get in, and that I should put my money in their church's offering plate to be sure I could go to ---!!

https://www.today.com/parents/transgender-kids-t123436   This is a wonderful mini series of The Today Show and shows parents dealing with their Trans kids in positive ways.  I several families of Trans children that I have met IRL and would love to meet the parents and children in these vignettes as well.

Funny you should mention that, @Shiratori.  We put Discord through its paces and found that it doesn't have a couple of key features we really need.

Thank you Cynthia! The time in between will be spent saving money so I can have more then 2 days off work. The summer on Granville island for buskers should prove quite rewarding and my day job shows no signs of slowing down cash wise. i will just put my trust in the process and kee connecting on this forum and at the AA meetings I attend. i guess the big one will be when I am approved for cosmetic vulvaplasty and whether or not I will be able to go thru with that.  Regardless I have been moving along with the approval requirements of that and regardless it has been most liberating.  cheers Rachel

I remember that character who was rabidly pro Trump.  Yuck. I found this sentence disturbing:   " He said he was motivated by love to sponsor the resolution because he believes the GOP needs to be willing to stand up for its Christian principles."  I have grown up with the belief that there is a separation between church and state which not only seems to be eroding but also seems to be openly sponsored by one party.   That being said i also don't find this a very Christian principle.   Hugs,   Charlize

Carla is right, the demographics are changing, the Gen Y's are the largest segment of the US population now, and they don't seem to favor republican ideas. Why do you think all the far right bungholes show up on college campuses these days, trying to recruit young people.   And then we had these TTT's = Trans Trump Trolls   It's like they came on here and other message boards, and told us how great it would be to have a republican in the white house, right after that buffoon was elected.   Where are they now ?   GOP = Geriatric old party
