The Shadow of a Ponytail

Evie

Recommended Posts

I look into the mirror

And see a grotesque face

Covered in hair and manliness

This face is mine, but yet it is not

In the shadow of the mirror

Glowing hair flows over my shoulders

A hand reaches back for a lock

And the ponytail is clear

Forced into an American cult

Positioned into equality

Yet the government can't be right

For I am a slave to society

The mirror shifts to a hand

Knuckles bloody as a man

Washed away by soothing water

To reveal purple nails of a daughter

School life ain't so bad

Got great grades but I am sad

Raise my hand to get called on

But not by the name defined by me

Broader shoulders disappear

A princess dress over a shirt

Now the mirror shows me clear

Then it all disappears

Loved ones they don't understand

How they gave birth not to a man

The doctor forgot to double check

Made my mind a gender wreck

The shadow is gone

But not my tears

A future stands just out of reach

Evie lurks behind the glass

For now I must continue my lie

Until all the fear subsides

Then the world will know my name

Daughter of darkness without shame

Finally the mirror breaks

Friends may be lost but I am found

A whole new world does await

If only society believed

In the shadow of the mirror

I see a ponytail

A discovery filled with pain

Yet happiness just the same

-Evie

(sorry it's a terrible poem. I thrive in fiction, but poetry is not a strong suit of mine)

Relax Evie.  Your poem certainly shows your struggle.  It is one i have known as well.  In time you may well find the mirror to be a friend.  It took me years but today i accept what i see.

Hugs,

Charlize

Sometimes our poetry shows our anguish and sometimes it displays our joy.  We write what we feel.

Thanks for sharing

Its a very good Slam Poem, a form very popular with  lesbians. Would love to read your fiction but, remember no sex on this site but, working around that, is what made LGBT authors so great.

"Daughter of darkness without shame" is a very evocative line!

You convey a lot of conflicting emotions and self-discovery with this poem.  And hey, the best way to get better at poetry is to write & read poetry. :)

Agreed!  Bery evocative!

But Evie, in time she may be a daughter of light. It is within your control to determine such.

All poetry flows from the depth of our emotions, Evie. You owe no apologies and I've enjoyed this piece.

Be at peace.

This topic reminds me of the lyrics to the Beatles song, "A Little Help From My Friends."   "What do you see when you turn out the lights?"   "I can't tell you but I know it's mine."   Carolyn Marie

@Ivy have you read the actual document?   Has anyone else out there read it?
    • Abigail Genevieve
I am reading the Project 2025 document https://www.project2025.org/policy/   This will take some time.  I read the forward and I want to read it again later.   I read some criticism of it outside here and I will be looking for it in the light of what has been posted here and there.  Some of the criticism is bosh.   @MaeBe have you read the actual document?

      *older, not holder, oops :P

      No problem!

Old topic, but I gotta say my favorites are: "Stop hitting on minors" (doesn't work if you're holder tho) and "Sure as [squid] not you"

Abigail, I think we will just leave the other posts where they are, and the discussion can start anew here.  It is possible to do what you ask, but would disrupt the flow of the discussion in the other thread, and would require more work than it's worth.   Carolyn Marie

I am in too good a mood to earn my certificate today. I am sure something will happen that will put me on the path to earning it.

It's likely most cis-women consider a fitting unnecessary "because they know what  they wear" and get used to the wrong size.  The instructions for what your size is are simple and why go to any further effort?  You measure your bandsize and you measure your max and subtract the two to get the needed info for the cup size.  Then you buy the same size for years until it hurts or something.

Congratulations Lorelei! Yes, it is a powerful feeling to have the documents that say "you are you".

Here is space for discussion on this, since the topic is large and could derail another thread SOMEBODY started.   Could some dear, sweet, kind Moderator pull everything related to this from the Voting for Trump thread and put it here?  I don't know if you can do that; I am the new girl on the block after all (blinks sweetly).

      I think I lost a friend :(

I will have arrived when I have a b*tch certificate of my own.  I think someone called me one once.

That’s fantastic Lorelei. I’m so happy for you.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
