blood levels

Naomi

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I just got the results from my bloodwork and am a bit worried. I've been on HRT for about 15 months now, the last time my blood was tested my estrogen levels were 125 pmol/l . This was a little over half a year ago. I now got back the results and my estrogen levels climbed to 478 pmol/l (testosteron below 0.5). Isn't that dangerously high? Should I be worried? Is it normal for my hormone levels  to rise that quickly? Should I lower my dose? I now get Systen *** estradiol patches (and ** mg cyprotern acetate).

Any radical changes should be cause for alarm. You should check with your doctor for his assessment of what's happening.

If you are wondering about, e-mail her back and ask her about it. Lots of things can effect our levels of E.

I would certainly speak to your Doctor whether they commented or not if for no other reason than to reassure yourself.  I know if my levels spiked i would be right on it.  I'm headed in to get blood work on Monday AM and always make a call if things are unusual whether the doctor calls or not.  Hormone imbalance can lead to too many complications so please don't be shy about making that call.  We are not doctors here and from my experience few good doctors will comment on anything without an exam or at least a full history regardless.

Hugs,

I agree that you should speak to your doctor about your concerns but I don't think this is terribly high.  I have two friends with  higher numbers (>500) that are under doctors care.  They both do not take an antigen as their doctors feel the high estrogen levels are enough to counteract testosterone.  Both have had good results.

The bigger question is how do you feel? Are you seeing or feeling any negative side effects?  This is what you need to discuss with your doctor.  Remember that a woman's estrogen level will vary throughout the month.  High levels like yours are seen during ovulation phase so the level itself is not unheard of.

You mention that the levels are Six Months apart which is not terribly sudden, and as @Jani423 said, levels do vary in a month for cis women, and the numbers I can find match hers as far as it being equivalent to a cis female who is ovulating, which is a normal thing there. Levels near 1000 occur in the last month of a pregnancy.

That said: YOU ARE WORRIED about the numbers and that is REASON ENOUGH for you to get in touch with YOUR DOCTOR.  Please do it for your peace of mind and enjoyment of being yourself.

Thank you for the replies.  I gave the endocrinologist a call and she assured me I have nothing to worry about, apparently it just means my estrogen receptors are working fine. I do feel great, although I'm often tired, but that's because of the t blockers. I found the suggestion that I might not need those blockers with estrogen levels like that interesting. But it would only be for a short while, since i have the intake for my GCS the 11th of this month. I just completed the real life test phase and will have my surgeries (trachea shave, vocal chords, FFS and GCS)  in the next months.
