First Therapist Appointment on Monday

So after a seemingly endless time, I've finally made it to this key milestone. This therapist came highly recommended and after chatting with her via email, I can see why. She knows what she is doing and has worked with a lot of transgendered people. I'm pretty confident that she's going to be a good match to work with.

I'm less nervous than I thought I would be and more excited than expected. My sights are set and I've been able to press forward to this point. I feel like I'm looking down from a mountain across to the next that I will climb; but it feels closer and more within reach than I ever thought before. I know there is a lot more left to this journey, but at this moment I feel confidence and renewal of purpose.

Welcome Katea.

I was both nervous and excited about my first therapy session.  I found it simply wonderful to finally be able to let so many feelings flow.  Just relax (as much as you can) and be honest.  Please let us know how it goes.  I know i was almost walking on a cloud and couldn't wait until my next appointment.

You might want to take a moment and write a post in the introduction forum so more of us will get to say hi.

Hugs,

Charlize

Having a first appointment with a therapist can be a little stress inducing but I found it to be a wonderful experience where I could unburden my soul without judgement.  Good luck at your meeting.

I felt having someone to talk to with out judgement really helped me too. In some ways it was an outlet for my anxiety's about coming out to my family. Once that was done, the therapist was their to help me navigate my transition with all its ups and downs.

Weird that post came up as my first post. I was a semi-active member back before the forums changed over. I can actually see some of my old posts...  oh, silly technology.

I have been super busy since starting this thread. Sorry for my late reply.

Saw the therapist and things went very well. We had discussed a bunch of stuff in email like how long she had been working with Transgender clients, things about referrals, discussions on how things typically proceed with letters of recommendation and their time frame, and such other things. So most of the session was a getting to know each other and allowing her to get an idea of where I am coming from.

I was mostly excited though I did get a little nervous when I sat down in waiting area. After all, meeting new people especially someone who will be in a formative position can get to you. But once I sat down and we began to talk, it was relaxed and freeing. You never realize how much we kind of keep back from people until you have the opportunity to speak to someone judgment free. Moreover, it was great to hear someone speak my female name out loud and address me with it. It felt good to be able to answer back as well.

We scheduled the second session for two weeks out, which is this Monday.

Great news.  I find speaking with my therapist to be relaxing.  I'm glad you enjoyed it.  Hearing your name out loud is certainly validating.

Oh, wow. I can't believe it has been this long since I made that first post. (Can't believe I forgot about it either....)

Still, its been a ride since October. Right now, I've got my first Endocrinologist appointment coming up for hormones in about 4 days. I'm now out with most of my friends and loving that I can now be myself with them. Most of my family is still in the dark, but the proper time and place to tell them will come.

To all those who debate about beginning with a therapist of any kind, go ahead and do it! IT is worth it in every aspect.

I'm glad you checked back in with us.  Thats great that you found the experience with your counselor to be a good one.  Congratulations on your upcoming Endo appointment.

I hope that there is some kind of justice. It's very sad and it doesn't even mention the family and I could only imagine how they feel.

It's kinda weird how these people are so worked up over making these laws.  They would have no effect on cis people either way.  Yet they are the ones with the obsession.  They ought to just stay out of trans people's business.

Bean burritos are still popular in my family.   Black eyed peas are the one legume I'm not fond of.  I need to add lots of onions. And of course always cook your pintoes with fat-meat.  And for y'all yankees, navy beans with a big ol' ham bone are hard to beat.

Seek out community, not just online but in person if possible. Making trans friends is a pretty quick and easy way to gauge if you have much in common with them.

It certainly could be classed as dark humor.  Unfortunately the sentiments alone must hurt young trans folks.  Decency and reality doesn't seem to be in the GOP's vocabulary.   Hugs,   Charlize

Good morning all,    It’s a frosty morning here the lawn looks silvery, and the uncovered spring flowers have icy edges on their leaves. The only flower bed I covered was my tulips. As nice as it is here during the day, our clear wind free nights allow the temperatures to drop into the mid twenties. Here in our growing zone it’s recommended that you not plant delicate plants until Mother’s Day. Central Indiana can have snow as late as the third week of May. The birds are active at the feeders, I’ve had my cup of yoghurt and morning meds. So I’ll sit here, drink coffee and watch the as the sunrise chases the frost from the yard.    @awkward-yet-sweet I could eat black eyed peas as a side for every meal. Boil them plain or with fatback. Served as a leftover, just add in a little Rotel Original Diced Tomatoes & Green Chilies.  Make the best of your day,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Had a weird dream last night.

Morning, y'all. Evening here; we had the regulation three mugs full today. Now it's time to drink something else.     No big plans here either, eldest daughter and granddaughter will be arriving on Saturday, and we will have our granddaughter to ourselves for a week after that. We still have plans though. Tuesday we'll go to the swim center, Wednesday we'll take a road trip to visit my mom, Thursday we'll get some mulch delivered to top up the gardens.   I still make other small plans on a daily basis though. The things I do plan nowadays, which is a bit new for me, is that after pinching a nerve and ending up in a bit of pain and getting some treatment from the physio, I am more motivated than ever to exercise more regularly. Tuesday for example, I went for a short (15 minute) early morning walk, went to the pool for some hydrotherapy, and mowed the lawns. Yesterday I did my exercise reps and spent some time on the exercise bike. Today, I went for a 45-minute walk, tomorrow I will do my reps again and go for a long bike ride. As long as I do at least one thing every day, right? The pleasing thing is that I'm losing weight! I blew out to above 95kg early in the year and I'm just under 91kg now. Yay me!
