Another reason to celebrate!

As most of you may know, I'm diabetic.  Very diabetic.  To the point that I was hospitalized in August with diabetic ketoacidosis, a blood sugar level of 646, and an A1c of 12.8.  I spent two days in the ICU and one more on a ward waiting to be discharged.

Yesterday, I had my first follow-up with my endocrinologist after all that business.  My A1c is down to 8.0, which he says is, and I quote, "damn fine work" for someone who had just been where I was three months ago.  Even more cause to celebrate - that's the lowest my A1c has been in years.  Still waiting on the results of a kidney test to see if I need a referral to nephrology, but this update is enough to give me plenty of hope.

I'm doing well enough that he did some monkeying around with my insulins to eliminate one of my five daily injections.  I know that doesn't sound like much, but having to poke yourself five times a day is a royal pain in the neck.  Of course, if my options are poking myself multiple times a day or going back to the hospital, I know which road I'll travel...

I'm glad to read that things are stabilizing for you.  I certainly have no desire to stick myself at all if i can get away with it.  Somehow staying more or less healthy requires us to do some stuff that we don't want to do and have two take meds we may not want to take.  I am simply glad to be here as you expressed so i do as i'm told or at least try to.

Hugs,

Charlize

The neck IS NOT where you are supposed to shoot the stuff!!  Maybe that is why it was painful!!

I go four a day, but can get two of them into one syringe most of the time, like a few minutes ago.  Congrats on the drop and quality time at home instead of the horse pistol.

I can relate to what you are going through. I am diabetic as well. But I am not on insulin yet. Hopefully I won't have to go on it. I am on Metformin 500mg twice a day and have to watch what I eat. Usually my A1C runs in the 7's. Unless of course I stop watching what I eat. I kind of went haywire 6 months ago and it shot up to 10.2 but I got it back down to 7.9 on my last lab report. My Triglycerides on the other hand run around 200. And I am on three cholesterol meds  to help with that. If I wasn't those numbers would be through the roof. My dad was diabetic too so like I said, I can relate. So if you ever need to talk feel free to message me.

Huggsss!!

That's good news for sure! My wife had diabetes so I know how hard it can be to regulate the insulin. Keep up the good work,

Hugs,

Brandi
