That's a beautiful homestead you have Charlize.  Very picturesque!

@Carolyn Marie which marsh area is that one?  Ballona or El Segundo?  If El Segundo, my youngest sister did the field biochemistry monitoring for the L.A. City/County health depts. for a few years before she died and loved it completely.,

Charlize, I live in a rural area too, but the setting is nothing like this! What a remarkable place to call home. I imagine you see lots of wildlife. I'm wondering if you have any livestock. I'd love to see sheep, goats and chickens here :)

This is a photo of downtown Ann Arbor. I live outside of the city, away from traffic and high rents. I still spend lots of time there because it's got great restaurants and interesting architecture to photograph. It's also surrounded by some very nice natural areas and one beautiful river.

Ok, let me try this. I'll try showing you where my true home is, my home in the north woods in the Manistee National Forest. I hope this works, or I'll just look silly here LOL?!

Hey, it worked!!!???

The first picture is of my back yard. The portion of my house in view is what I called the downstairs because it was on a lower level than the rest of my house.

The third picture is of the forest behind my house. Justice is not done here, but this is the paradise behind my house.

The second picture is of my work area, what's left of my wood pile and a pile of bark where I split my firewood. This is in the front yard.

The forth pic is of one of the many pleasures in life I enjoyed up there. I would start having outdoor campfires in the spring before the snow was gone. The campfire season didn't end until the snow got deep in late november or early december.

These pictures were taken on my last visit to my home. The yard was overgrown from my being a year away. I didn't take many pics because I thought I'd have lots of time in the future to take more and better pics when the grass was cut and the place was lived in. Unfortunately, that time has been taken away from me.?

Lots of love,

Timber Wolf?

I didn't know you lived in Michigan too. We're practically neighbors! I live in Grand Rapids and my home was near Baldwin by the Pere Marquette National Senic River. My sister used to live in Ann Arbor. Glad to meet you again, neighbor!

Lots of love,

Gwen one of my sisters lived in Ann Arbor years ago.  Cool!

TW, your place looks like a very nice place to be.  I have forest behind my house and a small patch of wetlands across the street.  I do enjoy the city environment but in the woods is where I like to live.

I certainly know that love of the forest.  I've been out recently flushing and repairing the tubing for the upcoming maple syrup season.  Love to see the flocks of robins, great blue herons and pileated woodpecker who seem to fill the trees around me.  The dog who guards the goats keeps the deer away from the farm fortunately.  I wish he was in the woods as well to protect the young trees since the deer destroy all of them.

The picture is of my "girls" following me out to a different pasture.  They are all in the barn and winter area now as the grass is gone and they'll be kidding in a few weeks.

Hugs,

Charlize

I've passed through Baldwin many times on my way to Ludington. And I've canoed in the Pere Marquette. Michigan is such a big beautiful state! Thanks for the photo of the fire pit - it's cold here today :)

Jani, your surroundings sound wonderful! I have never figured out if I'm a city girl or a country girl. I almost love them equally. I spend a lot of time in Detroit and it really stirs my soul, and I feel sad when I have to leave. I guess some riddles in life never get solved.

Neither, actually.  It's the Madrona Marsh Preserve in Torrance.  43 acres of vernal wetlands in the middle of the City.  It's used by both the Audubon Society and El Camino College for bird census and an outdoor biology and botany lab.

Now I have this mental image of you approaching that bird in your photo with a clipboard asking it questions about its family and income.

Never mind me, carry on... :P

Charlize this is a very picturesque scene.  I understand you were leading the goats but the framing of the buildings and the fences is truly inspiring to look and think about.  There is so much happening in this photo and so much to imagine that might be soon happening.   Thanks!

Gwen I can certainly understand the draw that both urban and rural environments have.  I do not spend a lot of time in the city but I definitely find myself drawn in when I am in that environment.  As my family traveled a lot growing up I lived in mostly in suburban environs.  But I was drawn to where I am now and truly love my piece of heaven.

Gwen, we've been to and through Ann Arbor many times. I AM chuckling a little about the high rent comment. I guess it's all relative but compared to both northern CA and southern CA I'd take rent prices back there any day.  I don't know how some people make ends meet here.

Briana, when I moved here 30 years ago, the city was so different. There were free artist spaces, lots of places with low rent and many businesses catering to hippies and liberal locals. The liberals are still here but they're now wealthy. Businesses are mostly restaurants that I can't afford to eat at, and housing developments are creeping out into to farm country. And don't forget about traffic! Enough complaining. Today I'm looking out my window at a pretty dusting of snow :)

Thanks, it is lovely.  The land behind my house is protected so it can't be built on.  I see all manner of animals large and small passing by.

Oh this is a cool thread! Very nice pics everyone. I love seeing things like this. So this obviously isn’t my house, but I think it really encompasses where I live. Well for half of the year at least. EBF9F8F1-CF6E-4BE4-B9C8-27A6F56224D1.thumb.png.409c7cccad3546c0bfa58f4cbeab3c24.png

this was a couple miles from my house back in March. I love when the snows all fallen and it hasn’t had a chance to get dirty looking yet. My truck barely fit down the road this day. So many trees fell from this storm.

This IS a great thread. I didn't even know this was here!

The first one of the river canyon is where I live now. My house would be just out of frame over the furthest ridge.
The second one is where I grew up about an hour away and it's the place that my heart will always call home!HPIM0740.thumb.JPG.de1cdad88cd8dda9b6bf4875a6af7d59.JPGIMG_20170922_093933.thumb.jpg.76510475b461e1cb872322ef767d0495.jpg

Kristen that looks like my road after a snow fall, albeit without the road stripes since it is a narrow road through the woods.

Julie both of those are beautiful places.

Require students to use bathrooms that align with the gender they were assigned at birth Prohibit transgender girls in seventh grade or older from participating in girls sports or other girls-only activities  Ban gender-affirming health care — including surgery or hormone treatment — for transgender students under age 18, even if parents consent or the treatment is recommended by a doctor Require schools to notify parents if students change their pronouns or otherwise signal they identify as a gender other than what’s on their official student records Doesn't look like it "protects" anybody.  It actually is about restricting trans kids rights.   The ways politicians name their bills etc. is a farce.  Most of the time they do the opposite of what they're called.

There's a lot of bad information out there.  People like the sensational stuff, whether it's true or not.   Too many people live in a news/opinion bubble.  My ex's late husband kept Fox News on 24/7.  It was always there in the background of their life.  There is something about "trans" stuff every day, and always negative.

Good morning everyone,   Head Cold and body aches are reduced today. @April Marie I'm glad you're feeling better too. Good luck timing the lawn care with the weather. @Willow It's good to hear that your wife is on the mend, and you may make it to Salt Lake City. I'm sadden to here about Tattoo Tom.   This is very good news @Adrianna Danielle   @Ashley0616 I hope you find the right hair removal service in a convenient location.   I'm on my second cup of coffee, and we're expecting rain this afternoon and evening.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Well, I can not say good morning today.  The world has lost a loving, caring man that gave his all for others that are suffering.  I do not have details, however Tattoo Tom of Stillbrave Childhood Cancer Organization has gone on to be with his daughter Shala and my Granddaughter Daphne and all the other kids with cancer and their families he tried to help.  You can Google the organization and it will tell you his story and what they do.  He used to run in Ultra marathons to raise money.  He was scheduled to run in the Moab 240 later this year.  Each mile is dedicated to a child.  You can see Daphne’s story on mile 233 and Shala is always the last mile.     if you have a few dollars to spare please make a donation.  The work of 5he organization will continue but it will not be the same without Tom.   Well on a better note, I learned last night that I can attend the Salt Lake City gathering of the Presbyterian Church USA in Salt Lake City. As a guest of our minister.  If I can get there I am going to try to go.  I am just waiting to hear from my son to learn if there are blackout days around the date I need to be there.  And I realize the bigger issue could be getting home so I do have th weigh the risk against the opportunity.   Thank you all for your concerns and prayers regarding my wife’s recent back surgery and my concerns about my voice.  My wife is definitely on the mend.   well I guess I need to get a move on it is later that I realized.   Willow
