After having achieved a decent voice in years, my voice is not too good again

Hi all!

I just wanted to share this and try find out if this has happened to anyone else.

I have been using my so-called female voice for more than three years now. In pitch, I have always done fine, always in the female range. But in resonance and most specially intonation, is where I totally suck. I used to sort of "put up an act" and exaggerate my inflection, sometimes sounding annoyingly nasal and fake, but I "passed" better as a female speaker.

Now, it seems my subconscious mind has gotten tired of this "act" I was putting, and I am back to my semi-monotone inflection.  That is, I talk between 200 and 240 Hz, my average being around 220. In notes, that's only about four notes! When I was putting up a huge fake effort to sound "singsongy" I'd say I may have been maybe 180-280 Hz in range, averaging around 230. That's a speaking range of around 8 notes, not so bad, but I got really tired of "faking it" so much when it comes to intonation. The singsonginess just doesn't come natural to me!

So now I sound very monotone, not singsongy or vivid at all. Also, my voice sounds different than a woman's, less "thin," it sounds much fuller, more like an adolescent guy (or a girl resembling a guy) in puberty or something like that IDK. My resonance is in the right place (the face mask) but I just can't sound "thin" like cis women do in general. I sound "thick" rather. And I hate it.

If anyone can tell me any tips to try force my subconscious mind to "feel comfortable" by speaking singsongy all the time and not feeling stupid or fake while doing that, and also any tricks to "thin out" one's voice to get rid of overtones or undertones, please do share your experience, thanks!

I don't have any good advice for forcing yourself to be comfortable with the voice you like.  Was there something you could point to that changed that made it harder to do?  I do believe you've hit upon the key point that a person must be comfortable when speaking otherwise it goes to the default voice.   Hopefully someone will come along that will have others points to consider.  Best of luck,

I am just getting over a major cold/flu. My voice went all over the place during the coughing and sneezing and conjestion. I try to use one word "anyway" as a word to key my voice to. I know how that word sounds in my head and that it sounds right to others. But as Jani pointed out, you need to be comfortable with the voice you develop. Both mentally and physically.

This topic reminds me of the lyrics to the Beatles song, "A Little Help From My Friends."   "What do you see when you turn out the lights?"   "I can't tell you but I know it's mine."   Carolyn Marie

@Ivy have you read the actual document?   Has anyone else out there read it?
    • Abigail Genevieve
I am reading the Project 2025 document https://www.project2025.org/policy/   This will take some time.  I read the forward and I want to read it again later.   I read some criticism of it outside here and I will be looking for it in the light of what has been posted here and there.  Some of the criticism is bosh.   @MaeBe have you read the actual document?

      *older, not holder, oops :P

      No problem!

Old topic, but I gotta say my favorites are: "Stop hitting on minors" (doesn't work if you're holder tho) and "Sure as [squid] not you"

Abigail, I think we will just leave the other posts where they are, and the discussion can start anew here.  It is possible to do what you ask, but would disrupt the flow of the discussion in the other thread, and would require more work than it's worth.   Carolyn Marie

I am in too good a mood to earn my certificate today. I am sure something will happen that will put me on the path to earning it.

It's likely most cis-women consider a fitting unnecessary "because they know what  they wear" and get used to the wrong size.  The instructions for what your size is are simple and why go to any further effort?  You measure your bandsize and you measure your max and subtract the two to get the needed info for the cup size.  Then you buy the same size for years until it hurts or something.

Congratulations Lorelei! Yes, it is a powerful feeling to have the documents that say "you are you".

Here is space for discussion on this, since the topic is large and could derail another thread SOMEBODY started.   Could some dear, sweet, kind Moderator pull everything related to this from the Voting for Trump thread and put it here?  I don't know if you can do that; I am the new girl on the block after all (blinks sweetly).

I will have arrived when I have a b*tch certificate of my own.  I think someone called me one once.

That’s fantastic Lorelei. I’m so happy for you.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
