THE ISTANBUL'S CONVENTION AND THE HELL GATES OPENING IN BULGARIA

This is the document that brings chaos in Bulgaria's media and 'society'. The word 'society' is in quotes, because it reflects only a selected members and groups of privileged and oppressive people in the country, who  see themselves as the 'society'.

What in the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence also know as the Istanbul's Convention in Bulgaria, brings that wave of shock and hatred?

First it was the conception of 'gender'. In Bulgaria, for the regular people, 'gender' and 'sex' means one thing. For the scientist and intelligent people it's not one and the same. So the here is the definition that started the war between Bulgarians Christians and Nazis against the Human rights advocates and transgender and intersex people:

Quote

“gender” shall mean the socially constructed roles, behaviours, activities and attributes that a given society considers appropriate for women and men;'

So the from here, evangelistic-oriented and sponsored, pseudo-democratic organizations like 'Society and Values' started to talk about how the Convention will force the country to add 'third gender' to their Constitution, how trans women 'who are men' will compete with women and use their facilities (painfully, well known in USA and other countries, haters-strategy, yeah!) and that it will allow a 'same sex marriages' to be legalized. The doors of misery and stupidity, diverse the attention from the major goal of the Convention - to limited the violence in Bulgaria.

Bulgaria is country with a lot of psychopathic traditions related to sexism, patriarchate and chauvinism. The hate and discrimination against LGBTI+, women and emigrants, in the country are totally above 'normal'. The motives for hate are like taken from the Medieval. If we start to talk about the domestic violence, against vulnerable people and minorities, based on different categories, I must write a whole book in here.

So at this moment, at this point, the Convention can't have ratification (it's signed), because illiterates and haters are throwing their poison on the citizens, making them to believe that the Convention will force the people to have 'third gender' or even 'worst' - to accept transgender and intersex 'freaks'.

This is our reality, which is more like hell! The stupidity, hatred and complexes are spreading around dressed like 'Christian and family values'... We still can't predict the end.

Thank you for sharing about the issues facing you in Bulgaria.  I fear ignorance and fear of anything different has long been a tool used by politicians and "religious" factions to unite less educated individuals.  We face that to some extent here in the USA as well.  It is especially obvious with the present administration.  Hopefully enlightenment will continue and acceptance will win out.

I have a friend in Serbia who has expressed concerns about much the same rising issues there. Nationalism, xenophobia, misogyny, hatred of LGBT+ people, and Russian encouragement of seeing any progressive change as a threat to local culture and identity are all part and parcel of the same problem. Nothing like fomenting fear of a tiny minority to prevent ratification of a measure to strengthen prevention of violence by about one half of the population on the other half.

Actually Russia, is hoping to make an Empire, and to 'unite'/takeover all of the accepted as a Slavic nations, under her ruling. That's why she is constantly messing in their inside politics via political parties or NGO's. Now the situation is even worst! The transgender community is threatened more than ever. We even have a minister who wants to be forbidden the option to be corrected the trans peson's private data in the official registers, related to our citizenship status.

I am sorry you and your brothers and sisters are faced with this increased difficulty.  Please be careful.  It can be difficult here in the US as well especially in some areas but i would think what is happening there could become much worse.

Hugs,

Charlize

Satisfaction   Satisfaction. The feeling when something meets or exceeds your expectation. You feel satisfaction when you expected to get something, and then got it.

Good morning, everyone! I've finally pretty much finished with this head cold. I actually got 5.5 hours of straight sleep last night without taking any cold medication...or waking up to pee. I feel amazingly rested!!   Oh, @Willow, you are in my thoughts and prayers that your throat issue becomes less of a problem over time and not more.   I'm, hopefully, going to get our grass cut today. It takes me somewhere between 2.5 and 3 hours on the zero turn mower but the ground is still so wet that I'll have to slow down a bit. At least it's supposed to be sunny and around 60.   Have a wonderful day!!

We have had some real dillies come out as the initiative sort of thing, but as @Carolyn Marie said, very few make it out of the petition signing seasons.  I am not surprised at the origin site of this thing, it is probably one of only 3 regressive leaning counties we have in the state. We actually had one of these initiatives started to make it mandatory for police to shoot dead on site any Gay behaving individuals wherever they found them.  For the most part the matters are poorly written in ways to be unenforceable even if enacted.  Thus most never become law or get to the voters.

You make some good points, AYS.  But there are usually already too many ballot propositions each election, so the proponents know it's best to wrap it all up into a nice package.  Plus, it's easier for the signature gatherers.  Otherwise they have to have a separate clipboard for each proposition.  Too much paperwork, dontcha know?   This kind of proposition is a loser in CA, so the only possible way the proponents can succeed is to give it the scariest title imaginable and try to put one over on the voters before they get wise.  Bottom line; an ice cube on a hot summer sidewalk has a better chance of success.   Carolyn Marie

Reading that article, it seems like the attorney general gets to call it whatever unless its an outright lie.  Given the nature of politics in CA, it seems like one side has the bully pulpit for sure.  Labeling it "Restricts Rights" vs "Protects Kids" is very much a matter of perspective.  Unfortunately, that matters since many voters don't bother to read.  Perhaps a better (unbiased) way to handle it would be to simply give the ballot measure a number with no title, forcing folks to read it.    I think it would have been better to handle the various issues covered by the ballot measure separately, rather than all at once.  For example, issues relating to disclosure of medical and social information to parents.  That could be its own ballot measure, rather than lumped in with everything else.  Besides, shorter and more succinct measures are more likely to be read completely.

This reminded me of an individual who, due to child sexual abuse, lived as a woman for 15 years, detransitioned and noisily insists that all trans people have his story.  His name comes up fairly often because it fits the narrative.   I don't know that anyone actually has been railroaded.  People may say it, they may look back at what happened and decide that happened.  It's a he said / she said, but it feeds a narrative that is useful for those who are already convinced that trans people are abuse victims first and foremost.  That the detransition rate is so low tells me that railroading is not actually a problem, and I regret giving the impression that I thought it was.  That so few detransition is a success story.   What is pertitent at heart is that people hear and believe all the stories out there, and the story we have to tell is not heard, because TG folk are, after all, untrustworthy in their view and unworthy of an audience.  Somehow it needs to get out there as to what the real situation is.
