hair growth

Hello All

So I was just wondering if anyone knows or can advise how to get your hair to grown long and faster?

Thank You

If i knew an answer to this i'd be at the patent office and looking into a good financial advisor.  I simply made the decision to shave what i had left and wear a wig.  The damage T had done was beyond any chance of repair for me and no growth procedure was worth the money or time.  Sorry but if you find something please let me know!

Hugs,

Unfortunately hair only grows at a steady rate.  Mine is consistent at a half inch per month.  At some point some areas may max out.  My front hair, what would be bangs, only seems to grow to 7 inches and no more.  Certain drugs may encourage regrowth but I don't have experience with them.  I don't believe there are any accelerants on the market.

Hello

Thank you again.  I was reading online about the effects of HRT and guess that HRT does stimulate the DHT which causes the hair to grow and in men, they will start to lose DHT which is why for the male pattern baldness.  But was told and reading that HRT does activate the DHT for the hair growth but everyone is different.  I was also reading that vitamin B12 helps out for hair growth and healthy shine.

Thanks

I certainly hope you’re right about that, I could certainly use a little bit of filling right there in my bangs, I guess I could get away with what I’ve got but my hairline did receed a little. However my family usually has really good thick hair so I did luck out there, sure would be nicer if my hair would fill in the front,so I totally get what you’re saying!

It is always helpful to take care of your hair. Overwashing and harsh treatment will not be good. In my opinion - Treat gently, and find a style which suits your hair type well.

There could be an entire website devoted to hair issues for trans women. (Maybe there is!) I think it's important to sort out fact from fiction and find out what works best for you and the characteristics of your hair. I agree with Tracy that over-washing and abusing one's hair can be destructive over time. I'm still figuring this all out and wish I had unlimited funds to experiment with hair care products!

My wife actually has very thin hair on the front of her scalp from thyroid and hormone issues, and is always quite self-conscious about it, I’ve been seeing lots of commercials for hair clubs that somehow transplant hair into your scalp I have no idea how that works. I’ve been urging my wife to come with me and go look at one of those hair clubs and see what it’s all about, as she would benefit greatly if it worked, but since she’s on blood thinners she’s really worried about participating in anything that might poke little holes in her. I on the other hand might really look into this as just filling in the front of my hairline would make me feel much better and I seriously want to be able to have a hairstyle that works for me even if that is a year away.

Jae

This is true especially as we age and our hair becomes physically thinner.  Mine used to be really thick and I've noted the change.  I've always taken care of my hair (vanity!).

There are lots of good products available that don't cost an arm and a leg.  I tend to be wary of the boutique brands as I think there is a high price for the marketing hype and limited distribution.   I'm using Garnier Whole Blends now.  There are several types dependent upon hair type.

I think the hair transplants depend upon a strong growth in the back of the head to harvest from.  It's said to be effective but I don't know the costs.  I can't imagine its not expensive.

I once had long, luxurious hair and now struggle to find a style that's suitable due to my thinning. But my expectations are reasonable and this helps. Jani, I use a Garnier shampoo and love it. It smells wonderful and really adds body to my hair. My trouble right now is that I have an odd collection of shampoos and conditioners and they seem to last forever! The frugal part of me can't throw them away. A small problem in the scope of things.

Jani, you seem to have found a hair style that works well for you. It's very pretty in your newest avatar photo :)

Hair grows in four distinct cycles, one of which is a dormant follicle which has no hair in it at that point in time.  When you begin HRT, those follicles that are dormant are the first ones affected by the new hormones as they wake up and begin growing a new hair shaft from them.  Some of those follicles were perma-sleeping due to your T. and those will wake up in the process of getting the E.  It will not happen to all of the old follicles, but it will happen to a good portion. A warning is that the new hair shafts that start growing will be softer and finer than your male hair,. so heavy, thick male hair will be gone and replaced with the finer, silkier female hair that you are programmed for.  My entire replacement took about 2 and a half years as the old male stuff died and was shed, clogging my hair brushes the whole time.  I began HRT at age 60 and age has affected some of my hair as well, but mine reached maximum length at about 3.5 years of female texture.  I do see a stylist who knows my full story, and who does my chosen color which is mine mine mine!!  She trims off my split ends but leaves my back hair at shoulder-blade length , but we have found that my hair will not take waves or curl for longer than a couple of days.  I use a special color safe shampoo about every ten days unless I am out doing dirty work, but use conditioner on my ends every time I get my hair wet, and use a leave in spray conditioner every day or two depending on how dry the weather is.  This pic from my gallery shows the damage that male pattern baldness did to me -- the picture is part of a series I made about putting on wigs a few years ago--gallery_14243_1573_55662.jpg

Thank you Gwen.  I had let it grow out quite long and when I decided to cut it I had 6 inches taken off.  Then the next appointment I had another inch or so.  I like where its at now and it does look feminine.  I'm the same as you when it comes to not throwing out old products.  I should just wait until what I had is used but I wanted to try something different.  At least it didn't cost me a lot.  I use a color safe shampoo now although I don't see a lot of fading between treatments.

It sounds like you had a plan for your hair and it's paid off very very well. I think I'll adopt this attitude towards mine, which I'm afraid to get cut after just 7 months. My sister just sent me a box of old hair care products that she wasn't using. Some of it was very expensive and organic. What a difference! I put my old stuff in a drawer :)

Somewhat of a plan...  I loved my hair long but it just wasn't working for me.  Some older women can wear long hair gracefully but many that I've seen let it grow without really caring for it (trimming ends, straightening or curling).  My philosophy going in to get the cut was that it will grow back if I freak out.  It's now just long enough to pull back into a short pony tail when I want it off my face.

There are some expensive products that work well.  My spouse uses one.  My hairdresser uses a line that is very similar to the Garnier products I use.  She gave me a sample and I didn't find a difference but I have a different water supply which could explain it.  One trick I did learn was to focus on how your hair is finished after a cut and/or color.  Once I paid attention to how my hairdresser dried and straightened my hair I was able to duplicate the process at home.  I'm much happier with my own results now.

I have been following along on this topic and there’s some really good stuff here, you girls really know what you’re doing. I had borrowed something from my daughter and I do believe it’s a Garnier product, if I’m not mistaken it’s the fructis sleek and shine shampoo, and for daily use it seems like it works really well for me, much better than what I was using before.  It doesn’t seem to fade my out of a box hair color at all, and I haven’t had to touch it up in nearly a month so that’s not too bad, except of course for the gray roots that are definitely starting to show if I part my hair too much. I’m only in the very beginning stages of letting it go past the last haircut so I’ve got quite a way to go, hopefully my hair will stay as nice and full as it always has and allow me to have a style that will work for me. I would love to have the same hairstyle and color as my profile pic, that’s at least a starting place, but that’s pretty long hair so I might have to try something different first.

Hugs,

Jae

One trick to hide roots is to move your part about a quarter inch.  The hair that was laying over in one direction will tend to stand up if combed the other way.  This tends to lessen the impact of the part and the line of grey.

Love it! This is great news. We need more of this to combat the excessive hate-filled rhetoric and misinformation. 👍

The experience was the same for me @April Marie. I slept much deeper and I woke up each morning feeling so much more restful sleeping with forms solidly in place. For me, wearing breast forms at night started when before I was a teenager. I had no access up to modern breast forms and certainly no way to buy mastectomy bras back then. I wore a basic bra my mom had put in a donation box and two pairs of soft cotton socks. I have some crazy memories of things I did in my youth to combat my GD but regardless, these makeshift concoctions helped me work through it all.   All My Best, Susan R🌷

Colorado isn't exactly a Republican place, and won't become one anytime soon.  I think those folks might be better off not spending their time playing Don Quixote.    We certainly have our share of California "refugees" moving into where I live, so I wouldn't be surprised to start seeing Coloradans too.  I suspect the trend over the next few years will see the blue areas getting more blue and the red areas getting more red as anybody who can relocate tries to find a place where they fit better.

Well, at least it'll be a place some folks could choose.  Options are a good thing.

My family would have gobbled that jar up in a minute or two.  When we do have pickled herring, its usually for Christmas.  I didn't grow up with that particular dish, but I grew up in a Greek family so I like just about any kind of fish if I can get it.  However, ocean fish and freshwater fish taste so different.  We usually have more catfish and tilapia to eat than anything else.    What I can't quite get used to is the tons of cabbage my GF insists on eating.  When you live with a Russian, there is always cabbage soup.  Always.  When I first moved in with her, breakfast was "shchi" for soup and either bread or "kasha" which is a bowl of boiled buckwheat with butter and salt.  Those dishes can be made in any number of ways, some are better than others.  In the winter, it can even be salty and sour like kraut.  Not exactly sauerkraut, but packed in tubs with vinegar and salt so it keeps partially for the winter.  But I drew the line when the cabbage soup included pieces of fried snake one day.  😆

Good evening to you as well @Mmindy   That is awesome that you have support from her side. My dad has communicated with me once and that was because he was forced to. His new wife wanted to spend time with my kids. He hated me so much he was in the process of taking my rights away as a parent to my two boys. He was talking to a lawyer and I called him out on it. I don't love him at all. I'll respect him because I wouldn't be here without him but I wished I had another father. My uncles don't talk to me and unfriended me on Facebook. Almost all cousins except for two are still Facebook friends but they don't give me any support. My mom said she won't support me with that but she has said that she loves me. I have nieces and nephews that are still Facebook friends but they have yet to talk to me. I have one sister that supports me out of three. The other's disrespect me by deadnaming me. They have never called me their sister. I think for them they think it's still a phase. They don't ask questions about me being trans. I have to bring it up and on the look of their faces they don't look comfortable about it.

Good evening @Ashley0616,   I just got offline with HP tech support trying to get my printer tool box icon locked to my tool bar. This is one of the most important features of my printer that I like because it keeps track of ink, paper, and scanned documents. I'm diffidently not a computer geek.   I'll catch up with the other bookmarks next week. We leave to go home for the Easter Holiday with our families. Saturday with her side, and Sunday with my side. What's odd about that is I'm out to more of her side and they're reluctantly supportive. My side on the other hand are less supportive, and my sister just under me in age will not acknowledge my being there. She will be constantly moving to keep from dealing with me. I'm dead to her.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

I used to follow baseball and the team I would cheer for is Boston Red Sox. My favorite player was Papi. He was an awesome guy and even held a child during the National Anthem. I haven't watched baseball for a long time. It just died off to me.
    • Ashley0616
That stinks that nothing transferred, and no bookmarks were saved!

I'm doing patches for now but I think soon I'll go to shots because it's hard to alternate when you are doing two xx patches at once. Unless she gives me Estradiol and progesterone

My view is we are "dependent" on government, because as a society, we are too lazy to stay actively involved. So, we let politicians do our bidding for us.  I think we'd be in a better place government wise if we policed the actions of our politicians.  We elected them; they work for us.  Sadly, we are allowing them to run amok.  We are where we are because we have chosen to let politicians make all decisions without us.  Remember "by the people, for the people?" That was the intent of our democracy.  Today, however, it is "by the politicians, for the politicians," the people be damned.

"Play Ball! Batter Up!" is the closing line of the National Anthem as far as I'm concerned. It's the call of the Home Plate Umpire and signals the start of the game. I grew up in the TV and Radio broadcast of the St. Louis Cardinals. Harry Caray, Jack Buck, Tim McCarver, and Mike Shannon, were the voices on my transistor radio. KMOX 1120 AM pushing 50,000 watts of Class A clear-channel non-directional signal. It could be picked up all across MO, IL, IN to the East. KS, OK, CO to the West. IA, MN to the North, and KY, TN, AR to the South. There has always been a rivalry against the Chicago Cubs, in the National League. As for the American League, I have to pull for the Kansas City Royals. I've also been a Little League Umpire, and fan of everything the Little League stands for. Going to Williamsport, PA and seeing the Little League World Series is in my top 10 things to do on my bucket list.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Good evening everyone,   I don't think my mother ever cooked a meal that I didn't like. We also had a kitchen where mom fixed the food, dad filled your plate, and you eat it. It wasn't until our baby brother was born that we could have Pop-Tarts for snacks. Before that all snacks had to meet mom's approval, and in her opinion wouldn't prevent you from eating supper.   Well my day started off on a good note, but has become frustrating because my IT person didn't transfer my saved videos I use for teaching. Then I found out that they didn't save any of my book marks for websites I use frequently.   Best wishes, stay motivated,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

The number is relative to method of deliver, the time of the dose, and when the blood is drawn. However, I do want to keep away from DVT and other potential issues. I assume I may be getting backed down from my current dose, but my doc told me to stick with the higher dose, so? I also wonder if this has anything to do the my breast growth and mental changes that have been happening over the past few years, like I have some estrogen sensitivity so a little goes a long way or something? I don't have enough data to postulate, but who knows!   With weekly, subcutaneous, shots you expect to see big swings of serum level estradiol from shot to peak to trough. My doctor is interested in mid-week testing (for E and T levels only), which would be post-peak blood serum levels but they will be higher than trough. Most, if not all, resources I've seen online is to measure at trough (which I might do just to do it next time) along with a SHBG, LH, and other metrics.   This is from transfemscience.org for Estradiol valerate in oil, which is very spiky compared to some other estradiol combinations. It's also for intramuscular, which will have a slower uptake and is usually dosed in higher volume due to the slower absorption rate from muscles. They don't have subcutaneous numbers, which I would expect to see similar spikes but higher levels at similar doses due to the relatively higher absorption rate direct from fat.   Are you doing pills, shots, or patches? And when you do get your levels checked are you getting that done when your levels are lowest or some other time?
