Hello from 2002

Hi friends,

 

I decided to join the site to connect and hopefully help some folks! I am a post op MtF, who mostly just identifies as a heteroflexible, sporty, tech woman  

I "threaded the needle" and largely escaped the worst part of the culture wars, coming out in a liberal high school in 2002 and living in great proximity to notable internet and real life transgender advocates.I had the opportunity to largely come of age, do all the things that college students and young people do. While that hasn't included much in the way of of romantic relationships, it has provided plenty in the department of #metoo sadly. 

With the change in public tone over the last 5 years, it's become clear that now, more than ever, peer support is needed. It's surprisingly hard to volunteer in person in my city, so I hope I can help out a few folks on this board.

Hello and welcome.  You are so right that peer support is needed.  That's part of why we're here, to help and support each other in any way we can.  I'm sorry to hear you can't find any local outlet to be involved in.   The group I am involved with in Maine is very active.  I have reached out to a more local group but they never replied.  I don't know if it is a staffing issue or some other concern.  I'm surprised with all the surgeons in the area that there isn't a strong transgender support presence there.  

 

We welcome you aboard as there are always folks looking for guidance from those who have successfully transitioned and are living life fully.  I hope to see you around!

Glad you have joined us here.  It is indeed a climate that requires the support of those who understand through experience.  Things are changing despite recent setbacks.  The "liberal high school " i graduated from in 1967 actually has a non gendered dorm today and a least one trans* teacher.  Todays nasty setback will hopefully be short-lived.
