I know. My doctor said I should start feeling the effects in 2 or 3 weeks. Chest will start to get tender.

That is how it was for me. I noticed the mental effects a lot quicker though!

Pill form? I hope she didn’t put you on birth control because that would be dangerous and harmful. Birth control contains an outdated form of estrogen called Ethinylestradiol and it might cause blood clots. Bio-identical Estradiol is what you will want. In patch form to start with.

Pills have a higher clotting risk.

Anne Lawrence recommends taking a baby aspirin daily, to trans girls on HRT. It reduces the risks of clotting.

You will also want to stop smoking if you smoked. Smoking raises the risks for blood clots a lot and it messes with the absorption of estrogen.

Smokers have less results from HRT.

Caffeine consumption must also be limited. Caffeine is bad when you are on HRT.

Don’t drink grapefruit juice if you are on oral estrogen. Grapefruit slows the break down of estrogen by the liver and it elevates Estrone, a cancer causing estrogen form.

Taking Estradiol pills sublingually is safer than swallowing them. Sublingually they bypass the liver. Orally they need to go through the digestive tract.

MtFs older than 40 usually get prescribed transdermal ( through the skin ) forms of HRT, not oral forms because their health risks are elevated.

Also watch your intake of phytoestrogens through food.

Don’t eat soy.

Don’t eat broccoli either. It raises testosterone and breaks Estradiol down into Estrone.

If you are on Cyproterone Acetate, watch out for depressive episodes. Cyproterone Acetate is a katalysant of depressive feelings. Taking vitamin B12 daily reduces the risks of depression when on Cypro.

When on Spironolactone, watch your electrolytes and your potassium.

Don’t eat too much kiwis or bananas. Substitute potatoes for a bit more often rice.

Drink plenty because Spironolactone is a diuretic ( makes you pee a lot ) and can dehydrate you if you don’t drink enough.

Have patience. HRT takes at least 6 months before mention-worthy results will have occured. The first months is a warm up.

After 6 months things should start blooming.

Breast buds usually start to form after 6 weeks.

Softer skin is noticeable after 10-14 days.

Morning wood starts to fade away after a week.

Sperm becomes clearer within 3 months.

Fat redistribution to hips and butt starts after around 6 months. The face starts noticeably changing after 8-10 months.

Body odor changes start within the first month.

Body hair starts to decrease after a year. That’s the slowest change you will notice.

Facial hair is only very mildly affected. The hair on the face will grow a tiny bit slower.

The voice is not affected, contrary to what many claim. You can only change your voice through voice training.

Mood swings are a possibility. Women also have higher anxiety levels than men. That’s normal. You will become more emotional very soon within weeks.

Your sexual orientation may change.

MTFs who lived as straight men before transition, may find themselves ending up as straight women post-transition.

Some become bisexual.

Some don’t experience a change and go from straight “ man “ to lesbian woman.

Very rarely someone who lived as a homosexual man pre-transition will end up as a lesbian woman post-transition. Gigi Gorgeous is an example. Gigi Loren Lazarrato has a YouTube channel and was a very feminine gay man pre-transition. Now she is a very feminine lesbian post-transition.

It’s a wild ride. But a very rewarding and enjoyable one.

Good luck ?

Be sure to follow your doctor's specific instructions in regard to your diet and do not give up your normal healthy foods without telling them that you are.  They might have to regulate your meds differently.  At the very least here in CA, your pharmacist is a reliable member of your health care team, so do ask them to carefully evaluate your entire list of medications, including OTC meds.  Your body will respond to HRT the way it would have done at age 9 - 12, and that response will be what it would have been over the 12 years after puberty started. (Parent of two cis daughters here).  There a lot of legends with some medical truth to them, but they do not override your medical care team's judgment.

A new journey begins.  I' know i'll never forget my start and i'd guess you'll find the same.  I was told to fasten my seatbelt.  Looking back it was good advice.

Great news Susan!  Your doctor is right about the timeframe.  The mental effects kind of snuck up on me.  I love it all!

 Hey Susan,

That is really awesome news, I bet you’re feeling great now that you know things are rolling along !  I remember around the third or fourth month my brain got a bit more quiet I felt so much more calm and at ease with myself, it’ll be interesting if you experience this as well. I didn’t notice my skin softening until about a year, but I suppose that’s when I started shaving my legs anyway and waxing my arms, not that there was much to remove but I wasn’t really investigating the condition of my skin before that. Now I find the skin on my arms is amazingly soft and extremely sensitive to touch, it wasn’t something I was expecting but it’s interesting  none the less !

Jackie

Oh, I didn’t know this one, since I recently started eating vegan I’ve been having tofu scramble every morning  and loving it, I certainly hope I don’t have to stop as I really love this morning breakfast routine with my cup of coffee

Uh oh...  I did it again, I suppose I’ll be drinking postum from now on! And now what do I do with all my soy creamer?

I worried about this initially, and my therapist told me to keep an open mind, and while results may vary I do realize my level of attraction to men in general has changed, this is not something I admit easily, but I find myself more often jealous of women first and attracted to them second, I’m not quite used to this but after 17 months of HRT the best I can do is keep an open mind and be honest with myself and others,  so I guess I’m bi...

Hey Jackie-- the stuff about not eating soy is totally a myth, don't worry about it. If phytoestrogens posed a risk you better believe I wouldn't be eating soy every day like I do. My partner is a pharmacist and he says that med companies investigated the use of phytoestrogens as hormone replacement and found that it just didn't work. I would definitely check with your doctor to see if they think you should cut out any foods, as there is a lot of misinformation online.

Oh my gosh thank you ChickenLittle, I was only half worried about that post because I realize there’s so much misinformation out there, and it look like all the information was cut and pasted from some other place online. It must be nice to have a pharmacist for a partner, I have always enjoyed my partner being a nurse, I bet there’s a lot of similarities there!  I’ve been having so much fun going vegan I can’t imagine worrying about these things and unless there was a serious problem, I’ll probably mention my dietary changes to my doctor the next time I see her. However I did mention going vegan to both my doctor and endocrinologist and both of them thought it was a great idea !

Hello all. Here is my 2 mouth update. I have been getting sick and throwing up the last 3 week's or so. I went to the doctors and she told me that she thought it might be my migraine med that might be the cause and try not taking it and to back off on tied Spiro. I did and I was still getting sick. I went back yesterday and she told me to stop taking my t blockers cause my level was so low and she took me of estrogen pills and put me on X.X mg injection. She also is having me come in today to show of how to inject it and is not charging me which I think is really cool. I am kinda scared about doing it cause I am not a fan of shots or needles but I also know that it better for me and not hard on me like the pills. Anyways. All comments are welcome. Thanks Susan

The shots are nothing.  However you have to make sure you use the right needle cause you will have 2 needles.  You will have an 18 gauge for drawing and a 25 gauge 1inch to 1.5inch for injection.  Make sure to use the 25 gauge for injection.  The 18 is a big needle and will hurt if you use that.  The 25 gauge is a small baby needle and does not hurt.  Especially when you grab as much meat as possible and then just stick it straight in and once in, you can release the meat and begin to inject after the aspiration.  Just make sure you pay close attention on the injection spot and you will want to switch sides as well cause you want to make sure that you dont hit a vein and you get the muscle and by switching sides, you wont bruise the area and get to use to one side.

I'm sorry you are having troubles.   You might also try transdermal; patches or gel.  The way the E is absorbed is different than with injections or pills.

I hope it works out for you.

Well I had my first injection this morning. The nurse showed me exactly how to do it and next week I will go in and do it myself and she will be there to make sure I am doing it correctly. I haven't felt anything from it yet so we will see what happens next time. Thanks all Susan.

Seeing how you were already on E, this shouldn't result in any different feelings except hopefully you won't get sick.  We're pulling for you!

Good evening to you as well @Mmindy   That is awesome that you have support from her side. My dad has communicated with me once and that was because he was forced to. His new wife wanted to spend time with my kids. He hated me so much he was in the process of taking my rights away as a parent to my two boys. He was talking to a lawyer and I called him out on it. I don't love him at all. I'll respect him because I wouldn't be here without him but I wished I had another father. My uncles don't talk to me and unfriended me on Facebook. Almost all cousins except for two are still Facebook friends but they don't give me any support. My mom said she won't support me with that but she has said that she loves me. I have nieces and nephews that are still Facebook friends but they have yet to talk to me. I have one sister that supports me out of three. The other's disrespect me by deadnaming me. They have never called me their sister. I think for them they think it's still a phase. They don't ask questions about me being trans. I have to bring it up and on the look of their faces they don't look comfortable about it.

Good evening @Ashley0616,   I just got offline with HP tech support trying to get my printer tool box icon locked to my tool bar. This is one of the most important features of my printer that I like because it keeps track of ink, paper, and scanned documents. I'm diffidently not a computer geek.   I'll catch up with the other bookmarks next week. We leave to go home for the Easter Holiday with our families. Saturday with her side, and Sunday with my side. What's odd about that is I'm out to more of her side and they're reluctantly supportive. My side on the other hand are less supportive, and my sister just under me in age will not acknowledge my being there. She will be constantly moving to keep from dealing with me. I'm dead to her.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

I used to follow baseball and the team I would cheer for is Boston Red Sox. My favorite player was Papi. He was an awesome guy and even held a child during the National Anthem. I haven't watched baseball for a long time. It just died off to me.
    • Ashley0616
That stinks that nothing transferred, and no bookmarks were saved!

I'm doing patches for now but I think soon I'll go to shots because it's hard to alternate when you are doing two xx patches at once. Unless she gives me Estradiol and progesterone

My view is we are "dependent" on government, because as a society, we are too lazy to stay actively involved. So, we let politicians do our bidding for us.  I think we'd be in a better place government wise if we policed the actions of our politicians.  We elected them; they work for us.  Sadly, we are allowing them to run amok.  We are where we are because we have chosen to let politicians make all decisions without us.  Remember "by the people, for the people?" That was the intent of our democracy.  Today, however, it is "by the politicians, for the politicians," the people be damned.

"Play Ball! Batter Up!" is the closing line of the National Anthem as far as I'm concerned. It's the call of the Home Plate Umpire and signals the start of the game. I grew up in the TV and Radio broadcast of the St. Louis Cardinals. Harry Caray, Jack Buck, Tim McCarver, and Mike Shannon, were the voices on my transistor radio. KMOX 1120 AM pushing 50,000 watts of Class A clear-channel non-directional signal. It could be picked up all across MO, IL, IN to the East. KS, OK, CO to the West. IA, MN to the North, and KY, TN, AR to the South. There has always been a rivalry against the Chicago Cubs, in the National League. As for the American League, I have to pull for the Kansas City Royals. I've also been a Little League Umpire, and fan of everything the Little League stands for. Going to Williamsport, PA and seeing the Little League World Series is in my top 10 things to do on my bucket list.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Good evening everyone,   I don't think my mother ever cooked a meal that I didn't like. We also had a kitchen where mom fixed the food, dad filled your plate, and you eat it. It wasn't until our baby brother was born that we could have Pop-Tarts for snacks. Before that all snacks had to meet mom's approval, and in her opinion wouldn't prevent you from eating supper.   Well my day started off on a good note, but has become frustrating because my IT person didn't transfer my saved videos I use for teaching. Then I found out that they didn't save any of my book marks for websites I use frequently.   Best wishes, stay motivated,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

The number is relative to method of deliver, the time of the dose, and when the blood is drawn. However, I do want to keep away from DVT and other potential issues. I assume I may be getting backed down from my current dose, but my doc told me to stick with the higher dose, so? I also wonder if this has anything to do the my breast growth and mental changes that have been happening over the past few years, like I have some estrogen sensitivity so a little goes a long way or something? I don't have enough data to postulate, but who knows!   With weekly, subcutaneous, shots you expect to see big swings of serum level estradiol from shot to peak to trough. My doctor is interested in mid-week testing (for E and T levels only), which would be post-peak blood serum levels but they will be higher than trough. Most, if not all, resources I've seen online is to measure at trough (which I might do just to do it next time) along with a SHBG, LH, and other metrics.   This is from transfemscience.org for Estradiol valerate in oil, which is very spiky compared to some other estradiol combinations. It's also for intramuscular, which will have a slower uptake and is usually dosed in higher volume due to the slower absorption rate from muscles. They don't have subcutaneous numbers, which I would expect to see similar spikes but higher levels at similar doses due to the relatively higher absorption rate direct from fat.   Are you doing pills, shots, or patches? And when you do get your levels checked are you getting that done when your levels are lowest or some other time?

Both of my parents were from the “North Shore” of Boston.  My mother Lynn and my father Swampscot.  They had an early 1900s Scots-Irish New England diet.  My sister and I were born in the 40s in Ohio well away from New England seafood and in an area where food was more German and Polish.  My first experience with liver and onions was during basic training.  They ate salt cod but never forced us to eat it same with oysters.  My dad ate oysters but my mother wouldn’t.  Anyone who ever ate an oyster can figure that one out.  I grew up eating lamb.  My wife won’t touch it. I love brazed ox tail, again no way. And the list goes on.

My mother was German, so yes, I think it was a cultural thing.  If I'd known you when we were cleaning out my mother's place, I could have sent you her "threat jar".

Been taking it real easy.Another good neighbor of mine and his 15 year old son came over and cut down a couple dead trees on my property.Knew not to do it taking it easy.I had them put the wood near my fire pit in the back yard.Did it and happy where they put it.They knew I had stents put in and needed to take it easy

Wow that is a high number for Estradiol good grief! Testosterone levels are better than mine. I don't remember my Estradiol level but testosterone was 80. To me that is really high but it was in the two hundreds the check in before last one.

I don't understand why this would make a difference being a "dad" I mean, as far as how they would grow.
