Numbers In Regard To Surgical Regret

Recommended Posts

VickySGV

Concern Trolls are a problem with those facing surgery, always finding the worst outcome scenarios and some stories go out that on their face sound horrible.  Good science involved in this paper with a good sized sample of people involved.

Two one hundredths of a percent.

Very good information.  I'll look for that study when its published.

It's a topic that tends to get amplified to fit an agenda. The few with regrets get far more attention as mistakes happen, things go wrong, people can have disillusions. What I hope this study does is crank up the happy volume with the overwhelming satisfied.

Thank you for posting the link to that article.  Almost every article I've found otherwise while trying to see how many others regretted having gender confirmation surgery were found in conservative magazines and appeared to be written to generate fear.

It seems that most of the articles about transgender regrets on the Internet center around this man. I know there are some who have had regrets, but I suspect this Urologist who appears in most of the articles has an agenda for his own financial aggrandizement and is showcased himself as the go person for a reversal fix

"Urologist Miroslav Djordjevic, has seen an increase in "reversal" surgeries among transgender women who want their male genitalia back. In the past five years, Djordjevic performed seven reversals in his clinic in Belgrade, Serbia."

It's weird, but I have a longtime friend who does the concern troll thing. The odd bit is that she'd bi-gendered herself. Or possibly himself. I have no idea who they're presenting as today. Tries to talk me out of it really, really hard. Not really sure what's going on there. I keep saying, "Even the worst possible results are better than what I'm dealing with now." Which is true for me at least.

Has anyone else run into something like that?

@NB Adult In that part of the world, the reversals are going to be politically forced due to anti-Trans and LGB social forces than to the patient's feelings of wrongness.  When less than two (1.4)  people per year are undergoing reversal surgeries at his office, and that is billed as a HUGE INCREASE there are more than a few semantic problems to this.  Nevertheless  people who want to believe this are going to because they cannot see the fallacy.  10 people out of thousands who have had it done is going to be less than a full percent.  A more recent study actually shows that Post Op people by and large have better mental health overall after the surgery, once they get past the post surgical depressions that happen even with things such as gall bladder and appendectomies and heart surgeries during healing.

@Jackie C.The Trans and N/B communities are rife with those types of things going on weekly if not more often.  Some of it is the Sour Grapes crowd who have decided that if they can't do it for countless reasons, some of which may be legitimate, they want to kill the joy of others who can and will do it.  The list of known complications and risks I had to sign for my Surgeon read like a death sentence, and a couple of them did make me think for a moment or two before I signed the waiver with Marci's office manager stamping a notary public seal beside my name.  I will be 7 years post op in January so you see what happened there.  Another group I mix it up with are the ones afraid that my getting surgery will invalidate their identities, and that group does have some validity based on the past where "Post Corrected Women" did a huge job of putting down the Non-Op people and did claim they were a whole list of nasty things. (We have had a few of them here and they are a nightmare for the Mod staff and are usually gone in a short time.)

You are so right on both comments to Jackie and myself Vicky, I've seen it all time and time again. There was a time when some post-op women felt that non-binary types were somehow invalidating their own transition by association in the same support site, there was a lot of angst but thankfully most understand that a non binary person's life decisions are their own just as are the binary decisions made by trans-women.

Thanks @VickySGV, I wondered about that. They have a much different situation than I do. More affluent background, career-minded, job in Washington DC. I felt it would be harder on them to transition because of the extra baggage. I'm not judging. We've been friends since Junior High, and they were the first friend I came out to. I was just curious if there were many other people who felt that way.

I've seen the horror story sites, but honestly I can't see a path forward where I don't have the surgery so I can get on with my life. My girlfriends at the gym are saving me a seat as it were. I think as of today, they all know my surgery schedule at least as well as I do.

I'm rambling. Thanks again for the information. It was just something scraping at the back of my skull.

Hugs!

I try not to think about whats under other people's underwear.  Its all about the person you are.

The only regret I've ever had was that I didn't know surgery was an option sooner.

MikaReich i would suggest that you look into Nar-Anon which is a support group for the family of drug users other than alcoholics. They can be found at:  nar-anon.org  While we cannot get another sober we can help ourselves and others to get through the wreckage an addict leaves behind.   Hugs,   Charlize

Mind I ask why she used to begin with? I understand if it's too personal and I don't expect an answer, so no worries. I'm more glad your daughters are safe, but I still feel terrible for the circumstances, it's unfortunate. Hope your brightness keeps them more than well nurtured and safe.

No,her family is on my side with this. Her family can't stand her drug use too. They know I am a great father leading a positive example to my two daughters

Live, love, laugh as much as you can and for as long as you can, for life is but moments we meet and make for yourself and to all a goodnight after on. If only forever could happiness last, but guess I'll have to settle with next best, if only at least minimum. Just walking around packing, as warm, detached, and uncomfortable as it can get, puts me on the moon with feeling of both joy and terror. Would like to be rid of the terror part, cuz fear is the mind killer, and nature always will take the rest of whatever society leaves behind. So I try to enjoy what time I have no matter how hard it seems.

-Accidentally hit enter-    I’m strong and beautiful and I won’t let anyone have control of my heart or body. The rain matches how I feel. 😓. My mom invited me over at noon. I’m happy about that but I can’t be-fully Tessa over there. I will just have to try to make it through this day.    Posted some chapters in my book. It’s a great story! I have submitted it into a contest to see if I can win 1,000.00 dollars! I once won a Big Wheel and third place in a poetry contest!    Be safe. Have a wonderful day loves !    Tessa

Hey beautiful people,   Today it’s suppose to rain all day. Only suppose to get up to 66. I’m a little sad today I don’t get to see my kids. Easter my ex took the kids to her boyfriends house and they had plans for Easter. My kids wanted to spend time with there dog that just had puppies. They were keeping the dog at his house. I gave up my holiday to her but did not make the arrangement that we would switch. I kinda thought it was just assumed. Well, It wasn’t. I told her in a nice civil text I would like kids today. She text back in an uncivil text that I gave up my holiday and I wasn’t going to take hers. Also my son wanted some food from Sonic. He told me mom said ok. He lied and she screamed at me for that. When we were married she would get mad at me if I took the kids to McDonald’s or got them junk food. Now 6 years later she still is trying to control me. I hate this! I talked with a help line through my work and she said no one controls you. It’s you that give them the control. Yes, I believe that but when a person owns the car they can take it away. She has full physical custody. My control is not getting angry with her and starting a fight. We fought in our marriage over things just like this. I refuse to engage in a fight with her because it always ends in court. I will miss my children this Holiday but now I know never to assume ever again. My ex doesn’t have a heart or care about me this is obvious and so sad😞. It’s not that I want her to love me but I want her to respect my position. She doesn’t even respect me enough to call me Dad to them. She doesn’t know about Tessa but she does know about my female side and she also tells the children that I’m wrong and crazy for feeling that way and if I ever dress like a woman they are to call the police or her. I will stand strong and not let her get the best of me. I won’t beg and plead like she wants me to do. I did this in our marriage when she withheld sex from me just to be mean. I am not a dog and I won’t be treated like one. I’m s

I'll try smaller spaced out portions. Thank you for responding.   I had fainted twice from not getting enough calories for my high metabolism.   Its had been 2 or 3 days of that when I posted the opening. I've eaten small amounts since, not enough..   I'll try to do better. The situation involving my friends got drastically worse before it got before it got any better, but I think where fine now for the most part.  My friends are like family, like a foundation.  I've not built up my own self esteem or willpower high enough yet and I know I need to because their friends not therapists, I can lean on them but I can't rely on them for my own happiness.
