Numbers In Regard To Surgical Regret

Concern Trolls are a problem with those facing surgery, always finding the worst outcome scenarios and some stories go out that on their face sound horrible.  Good science involved in this paper with a good sized sample of people involved.

Two one hundredths of a percent.

Very good information.  I'll look for that study when its published.

It's a topic that tends to get amplified to fit an agenda. The few with regrets get far more attention as mistakes happen, things go wrong, people can have disillusions. What I hope this study does is crank up the happy volume with the overwhelming satisfied.

Thank you for posting the link to that article.  Almost every article I've found otherwise while trying to see how many others regretted having gender confirmation surgery were found in conservative magazines and appeared to be written to generate fear.

It seems that most of the articles about transgender regrets on the Internet center around this man. I know there are some who have had regrets, but I suspect this Urologist who appears in most of the articles has an agenda for his own financial aggrandizement and is showcased himself as the go person for a reversal fix

"Urologist Miroslav Djordjevic, has seen an increase in "reversal" surgeries among transgender women who want their male genitalia back. In the past five years, Djordjevic performed seven reversals in his clinic in Belgrade, Serbia."

It's weird, but I have a longtime friend who does the concern troll thing. The odd bit is that she'd bi-gendered herself. Or possibly himself. I have no idea who they're presenting as today. Tries to talk me out of it really, really hard. Not really sure what's going on there. I keep saying, "Even the worst possible results are better than what I'm dealing with now." Which is true for me at least.

Has anyone else run into something like that?

@NB Adult In that part of the world, the reversals are going to be politically forced due to anti-Trans and LGB social forces than to the patient's feelings of wrongness.  When less than two (1.4)  people per year are undergoing reversal surgeries at his office, and that is billed as a HUGE INCREASE there are more than a few semantic problems to this.  Nevertheless  people who want to believe this are going to because they cannot see the fallacy.  10 people out of thousands who have had it done is going to be less than a full percent.  A more recent study actually shows that Post Op people by and large have better mental health overall after the surgery, once they get past the post surgical depressions that happen even with things such as gall bladder and appendectomies and heart surgeries during healing.

@Jackie C.The Trans and N/B communities are rife with those types of things going on weekly if not more often.  Some of it is the Sour Grapes crowd who have decided that if they can't do it for countless reasons, some of which may be legitimate, they want to kill the joy of others who can and will do it.  The list of known complications and risks I had to sign for my Surgeon read like a death sentence, and a couple of them did make me think for a moment or two before I signed the waiver with Marci's office manager stamping a notary public seal beside my name.  I will be 7 years post op in January so you see what happened there.  Another group I mix it up with are the ones afraid that my getting surgery will invalidate their identities, and that group does have some validity based on the past where "Post Corrected Women" did a huge job of putting down the Non-Op people and did claim they were a whole list of nasty things. (We have had a few of them here and they are a nightmare for the Mod staff and are usually gone in a short time.)

You are so right on both comments to Jackie and myself Vicky, I've seen it all time and time again. There was a time when some post-op women felt that non-binary types were somehow invalidating their own transition by association in the same support site, there was a lot of angst but thankfully most understand that a non binary person's life decisions are their own just as are the binary decisions made by trans-women.

Thanks @VickySGV, I wondered about that. They have a much different situation than I do. More affluent background, career-minded, job in Washington DC. I felt it would be harder on them to transition because of the extra baggage. I'm not judging. We've been friends since Junior High, and they were the first friend I came out to. I was just curious if there were many other people who felt that way.

I've seen the horror story sites, but honestly I can't see a path forward where I don't have the surgery so I can get on with my life. My girlfriends at the gym are saving me a seat as it were. I think as of today, they all know my surgery schedule at least as well as I do.

I'm rambling. Thanks again for the information. It was just something scraping at the back of my skull.

Hugs!

I try not to think about whats under other people's underwear.  Its all about the person you are.

The only regret I've ever had was that I didn't know surgery was an option sooner.

Here is space for discussion on this, since the topic is large and could derail another thread SOMEBODY started.   Could some dear, sweet, kind Moderator pull everything related to this from the Voting for Trump thread and put it here?  I don't know if you can do that; I am the new girl on the block after all (blinks sweetly).

Good morning everyone,   It’s Thursday well as least I took my Thursday Medications as sorted out in my weekly dispensary caddy. Today’s coffee is Folgers Breakfast Blend served HOT, black and strong. My wife and I are going to explore the Western and Southern coasts of Saginaw Bay and hang out in Bay City, MI. today.    @Willowonce @Abigail Genevievepointed out the word usage in your post. I read it and laughed, enjoying the snarky tone of the comment. Since it was spelled correctly I thought maybe you meant for it to read just as you typed it. Then the kinder gentler me thought it would be better if I changed it. I’m not saying I corrected it, I just changed the severity of the sentence.    Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Things are moving quickly now that I have my drivers license and social security card in my new name. It was really affirming when I got my first paycheck in my new name.

Amazingly I have found many cis women are absolutely wrong in their assumptions about bra fittings. I knew an elderly lady that said, "I have been a C cup since school, I just buy a bigger band size as my breasts grow." This is completely WRONG as the band should always fit snug with they gore firmly against the chest.    One of CNA's came into Torrid and I helped her pick out a new bra. She didn't even understand band size was inches and cups/band combo were based off Victorian shirt sizes.  She said, "how do you know so much?"   We found her proper fitting band size, then found a cup she fit.    How can people that take the vast majority of bra users know so little about them? Seems most cis women just use "try it on" only.

As has been said many times, this is not a black and white issue. Sure.  I get it that a MtF person that has gone through full male puberty and "transitioned" 6 months ago probably has an advantage in some sports.  But these bans affect elementary school kids too. I mean, banning trans women from Darts?  Chess?
