Bellingham, WA, Winter of 1995-96...

Xmas time... It was balmy, 100% humidity in mid 50's. Anybody in Puget Sound understands balmy in the 50's. I get this glad... Go get eggs, bread, beer and milk... So I do... I get back and my mother's roommate is unloading his van...

Eggs, bread, beer and milk... I'm like "what the..."

I tell him to use the second fridge because the main one in kitchen was full...

So we laughed about it; it was a funny double up...

Next morning it was windy and dark... Too dark... Power was on though.. I let the cat out as she wanted out and she wouldn't go through her kitty door. I open the door and like a dog wanting to show you something, she gets to foyer door and stopped. Total darkness...

I turn on the porch light and we are surrounded by a solid white wall you can only see Frank's van not mine. His was under carport. We were under a 20' snow drift. I go to back door which was a windbreak this time. It snowed 30" overnight and was still coming down. Thank God we had 4 cases of beer! Equivalent of 3 flats of eggs. Four loaves bread and 4 gallons of milk...

We lived in a little Hamlet called Custer. About 12 miles north of B'ham. It snowed just short of 4 feet... It took a week to dig to the road another 3 days for County to clear that road. We were snowed in for 10 days...

Thankfully, Frank had weed!

I get this Michelle, and sounds like you know what it's like to experience the Frazer river valley outflow when it's tilted this way ! It's like a blast tunnel from the arctic north...

The desert sounds nice this time of year your way. I see plenty of snow in the MTNS of So Cal right now, I can imagine the skiing at Big Bear, Idyllwild, or Wrightwood is nice now. I used to go to this place called Mt Waterman on the crest hwy 2, where it was like so totally powder, nothing like the powder of Mt Waterman on the top (wonderful view of the Mojave desert) and face, when they could open, as @ Jani eluded to earlier, this location has been closed sometimes for years during dry spells...Mt Waterman is in center background in this live shot from Mt Wilson...

Hi,

well, like many of you recently we set record temperatures yesterday and today.  Fortunately for us, the were record highs, not sub zero lows.  Cold front and Canadian air tonight so our wake up temperature will be 40 degrees lower.  But it is only February.  Going shopping tomorrow.  I need blue shoes for a dress I bought and maybe some jewelry.  Not sure what I’ll end up with.

becareful with snowmagedden.

Good morning all. Stay safe and warm up north. Not to rub it in but It's typical south Florida weather here. Yesterday was a pretty good day. Had my 6 month blood work done, waiting on results. Had really good group session, went out for a fun evening with a group of friends from group. Finding more support day by day. My therapist and my endo both said that my mood and outlook have changed so much. I'm actually happy, smiling and laughing with people. Im very open about being trans now and not looking for acceptance from anyone anymore.

Well off start a beautiful South Florida day

Good morning

We are up early today.  No particular reason except that we went to bed early last night.

Spent yesterday shopping.  Bought some comfortable shoes and some dressy low heels.  Also bought a new lipstick.

We we had a nice day overall, although I did get misgendered once.

Mid afternoon coffee today. I did the weekly shop this morning. The sun had been out this afternoon (as soon as I got back lol), otherwise a wet morning. Roll on spring!

I let myself sleep in for once! I’m still nursing this coffee on my nightstand, my coffee cup is so big I can put 2 cups of coffee in it ...

Even though Northern California is known for being sunny and bright today is overcast, cloudy and on the chilly side. I had so many medical appointments this last week that I need to go into work today just so I can catch up, not all day, just a few hours so tomorrow won’t be a nightmare when I get in and have to get all of the orders ready from the weekend sales... CC689721-85F3-4875-943E-5662FADE72FA.thumb.jpeg.79680903b700c90b38027d31d122c03e.jpeg

Good morning peoples!  It's a brisk 19°F now and we have 6" of snow on the ground.  We have a 7 hour break with 2-5 inches more snow due starting at 5pm.  This entire week there will be snow storm after snow storm which is sort of rare for the Puget Sound area.  It happens every half decade or so and we were overdue.

It was a beautiful morning, sunny, and bright, I went out for a walk, nice to run into neighbors, and hear my name....

Just like you said Susan, it changed so fast this afternoon, now it's clouding up, here it comes again :)

Baking some bread now, did my nails, did the chores, so domestic, and enjoying a nice warm cup of coffee this afternoon, get out the bead caboodle, maybe make a bracelet or two by the wood stove...

Hugs and warmth

I'm happy to hear you got out for a walk Cyndee.  I heard that Sea-Tac area received as much snow in one day as it normally sees in a year.  That is the beauty of life, it is ever changing!  Enjoy the sun.

California is OK, but the cost-of-living here is insane, a small studio apartment costs $2000 a month, and that’s in the South Bay area ...

I really love the sunrise and sunset lately, this time of year it’s kind of magical. There was a lot of fog this morning and when I got home I couldn’t resist a picture of the last visible sunlight just barely illuminating the silhouette of the mountain range.

Those are beautiful pictures Jae.

We woke to a dusting of snow this morning.  So far the year has been good to us as far as heavy storms.  Lots of heavy rain, setting new records, but not much snow has fallen.

it's busy on the farm now.  Every time we go above freezing the ap from the maple trees is flowing into the collection house.  A heavy flow can bring 350+ gallons that needs to be processed.  Our sugar house is pretty sophisticated now but i still end up working into the early morning hours.

At the same time our goats are beginning to kid.  Yesterday there were 8 kids born from 4 does.  The girls do most of the work themselves but i act as a midwife when possible and move everybody around to different stalls to keep the kids protected for a bit after their birth.  Within a day they are bouncing around and cute as tacks.  I'm finishing my coffee and ready to head out to see what needs doing.

Hugs,

Charlize

Oh Jae that's most anywhere in CA.  It's just crazy here.  The cost of rents/real estate even as you go east up and down the state can just be crazy.  And top it all off with a nice heavy sprinkle of "fees".  i.e. Taxes.  Besides all the usual high state and local taxes, there are additional taxes that are added to most anything you can thing of.  Buy some lumber, there's a "lumber recovery fee."  Buy some paint, there's a "paint recovery fee."  And on and on and on...

But it is beautiful here and there is so much to do and see.  You could vacation every year in CA and still not see it all in a lifetime.  We're way more active since moving here vs. where we used to live.  ?

Just finishing up 2nd cup and heading to the shower to get cleaned up and out of the house and off to work.  Have a great day everyone!

Those pictures are so pretty Jackie. Ya know I always enjoy visiting that area, and finding new vistas in No Cal. It's been expensive for a long time for rent / property in the bay area, and sadly that same trend found it's way here.

Briana is right, there is tax on seemingly everything. I recall the tax revolt called Prop 13 as it was known in CA was the only saving grace from property taxes passed in the 1970's. Those properties are quite valuable today and held in families, gifted to next in line to preserve the PROP 13 tax benefits. If sold however or title transfer would forfeit the prop 13 tax benefits for the new owners (complicated).

Snowing again here, and went out for a walk again (3 miles). It's much harder walking on snow and ice, feels like 10 miles in my leg and hips :P

You have a lot to look after Charlize, sounds wonderful on the farm.

Stay warm Jani :)

Hugs

rained here from late morning to late afternoon.  More rain predicted for tomorrow.  Met with my therapist today.  next appoint is March 11th and I'm thinking I'll likely spread it out even more after that.  The next meeting is right after my Endocronologist appointment and a group meeting date.  I figure that one might be needed but after that I plan on few and far in between unless something happens.

Weather is predicted to be all over the place this week, highs near records followed by cold and rain and back up again.

Working on painting the dining room starting tomorrow.  Painted the bedroom hall today.

Hi all, 6 am here.  I'm not often up this early but I was able to sleep most of yesterday so my schedule is a little off.  Today it's supposed to be in the upper 40s but we may see a sprinkling of snow early on.  Not sure if it is falling now, missing us or coming soon, but we'll see.  I have to get blood work done today then later see my therapist.  Hoping it's nice for that running around.  My arthritis has been hurting me through all of this cold.  I really can't wait for it to warm up.

Nostalgia is an emotion. It is the feeling of enjoying events from the past. People with nostalgia will often look at or use old things that they were familiar with years ago. This is because people feel more connected to those past times that they enjoyed, usually because it reminds them of how long it has been since they last connected to such past times. Examples where people may have the feeling of nostalgia includes watching old TV shows, using old technology that was very enjoyable, and playing with toys that you played with as a child. These memories are usually misleading, and can make someone wish that they could be young again, even if their childhood was mediocre. Human brains often leave out boring or bad memories, which can cause incorrect feelings about their childhood.

CAT FACTS A cat's jaw cannot move sideways. The only domestic animal not mentioned in the Bible is the cat   A house cat’s genome is 95.6 percent tiger, and they share many behaviors with their jungle ancestors, says Layla Morgan Wilde, a cat behavior expert and the founder of Cat Wisdom 101. These behaviors include scent marking by scratching, prey play, prey stalking, pouncing, chinning, and urine marking. Cats are believed to be the only mammals who don’t taste sweetness. Cats are nearsighted, but their peripheral vision and night vision are much better than that of humans. Cats are supposed to have 18 toes (five toes on each front paw; four toes on each back paw). Cats can jump up to six times their length. Cats’ claws all curve downward, which means that they can’t climb down trees head-first. Instead, they have to back down the trunk. Cats’ collarbones don’t connect to their other bones, as these bones are buried in their shoulder muscles. Cats have 230 bones, while humans only have 206. Cats have an extra organ that allows them to taste scents on the air, which is why your cat stares at you with her mouth open from time to time. Cats have whiskers on the backs of their front legs, as well. Cats have nearly twice the amount of neurons in their cerebral cortex as dogs. Cats have the largest eyes relative to their head size of any mammal. Cats make very little noise when they walk around. The thick, soft pads on their paws allow them to sneak up on their prey — or you! Cats’ rough tongues can lick a bone clean of any shred of meat. Cats use their long tails to balance themselves when they’re jumping or walking along narrow ledges. Cats use their whiskers to “feel” the world around them in an effort to determine which small spaces they can fit into. A cat’s whiskers are generally about the same width as its body. (This is why you should never, EVER cut their whiskers.) Cats walk like camels and giraffes: They move both of their right feet first, then move both of their left feet. No other animals walk this way. Male cats are more likely to be left-pawed, while female cats are more likely to be right-pawed. Though cats can notice the fast movements of their prey, it often seems to them that slow-moving objects are actually stagnant. Some cats are ambidextrous, but 40 percent are either left- or right-pawed. Some cats can swim. There are cats who have more than 18 toes. These extra-digit felines are referred to as being “polydactyl.”

Good morning,   I over slept yesterday was a couple minutes late clocking in.  But no breakfast or coffee.  Got caught up but it was go go go all morning.  I had to ask for a refresher on how I was to enter something but once I got a quick answer it came back to me.    @KymmieL sorry Ford didn’t work out.  We are always looking for good reliable people, I could get you a job here but the commute would be rough.  Today I have three audits to get done, plus other things during my shift on top of the regular things.  Since I am opening that puts me in the drivers seat.  The Asst Mgr comes in part way throuh my shift but she will have to handle customers while I do the work she would be doing if she opened. Tail wagging the dog.  Guess she’s getting punished for not following the Mgr’s requests.  They do tend to butt heads a lot.     Butting heads with people is a thing the Asst is known for.   @awkward-yet-sweet do you think just maybe this new graphics request was in the offing?  And why you were asked to go to work with your husband?  Obviously, he cares about you a lot and is trying to do things to help you.   speaking of meeting people @Adrianna Danielle we have a youngish customer who comes in frequently, I’d like to approach her but I’m just not certain yet.  She still dresses male but has long hair and early chest development.  My approach, if I ever decided I should would just be supportive but I really can’t be sure that is what is going on here or what and I would not want to make a big blunder if that’s not what he is doing.  A male with early teen boobs doesn’t want to be noticed.   well, I can’t be late again, I’ve got to leave now.  See you again later for afternoon tea and crumpets or scones. Mmm scones!   lol   Willow

Well, HIPAA is basically useless for keeping government out of your medical stuff.  It doesn't seem to prevent employers from making workplace medical demands either.  About the only thing it seems to do is keep somebody's sister or spouse from having the tools necessary to help you when you're in trouble.  As usual, government made things worse and added unhelpful red tape.  I really doubt HIPAA will be any use in the area of trans rights either.    Honestly, I don't see anything good will come of this no matter how it goes.  If some state AG's win on this, it will cause issues for trans folks.  If the Feds win on this, it'll be a precedent to stomp on states' rights even more than has already been done.  And I'm not sure which way things go will make a difference when it comes to officials from one state trying to do nasty things to people who have left that state and gone elsewhere.    What a crap sandwich... and no matter which plate it gets served on, "We The People" get to eat it.
    • awkward-yet-sweet
At least you tried!  Something equivalent or better may come up, and the waiting could be worth it.  Just keep trying and you'll eventually get what you need and want.      For me, having somebody to love was the most important.  Everything else follows after that.  I waited a long time to find somebody...and she ended up leading me to more than I ever thought possible.    Actually, I'm feeling pretty good right now.  I have something work-like outside of my home responsibilities to do for the first time in about 18 months.  Nobody seems to mind the real me.  And this evening, my husband said something that just really made me feel special.  He was rubbing my back, shoulders, and chest while we talked, helping me relax.  He told me that he thought I was really cute in my girl form, but that he thinks my boy form might even be cuter.  And that he's proud of his "smart little Pocket Fox."    For me, the combination of those sweet words and the physical affection was exactly what I needed.

Hi!   That was probably hard to write and then read and say, did I really write that?  Been there.   I'm glad you call it a journey.  It is.  One step at a time, and sometimes two steps forward, one back.    Abby
