Will Medicaid cover HRT?

Hey guys! so I'm going to be 18 soon and I'm sure all of you can understand the desire to get on hormones as fast as possible. I won't have insurance and I want to apply for medicaid. does this cover hrt? could I be able to get on testosterone with it? If not, what parts of transition would it cover. Thank you so so much for anyone that responds. I wouldn't be where I am today without you guys. Fr.

The first step is to see a therapist. After about a month or so you should be able to get a letter that you can take to an endocrinologist who can get you started on HRT. You'll have to keep going with the therapy and go back for regular checkups with the hormones to make sure you're body is reacting safely to them and adjust your dosage.

Being as young as you are would your parents be willing to help you?

Honestly I have no idea. I paid for everything out of pocket and was broke for years because it drained everything and I did everything as fast as I could all caution to the wind.

Are there any colleges around you that offer the service at a reduced rate? It might reduce the cost. Maybe you could barter while at school if you find a therapist and do office work for them to pay the cost?

Not at all. It was worth it. It brought relief.

I was paying for HRT, Therapy, Voice Training and saving for SRS all at the same time. I guess I wasn't really broke but when you need $20,000 saved for SRS and you want it as soon as humanly possible you go without for a little while. :D

I'm literally so glad u were able to achieve what you had wanted. You know what? I feel like I should just go for it too when I can, I desire it so bad. Do you think HRT would be manageable with 11 an hour? Or did you have to build up?

At the time I was making $60,000 per year. That was roughly $1200 every two weeks after taxes. I paid $1000 for the mortgage and $300 for the car. So effectively in a month I had $900 for everything else and used about $100 a month in gas and about $300 a month on food. So that was $500 a month for entertainment, hrt and therapy.

I got lucky and did contract work for my previous employer after I left there for another job so all that money went to SRS.
