Had a minor moment of panic tonight when my daughter said she had been using that photo of me as a girl in a wig and makeup to play "elfie selfie". 

Due to family circumstances my kids do not know I have been questioning my gender, all of my time as a woman is spent when they are at their mums or at school, but my daughter did know I dressed as a woman at Halloween and assumed it was from then (even though the outfit was different and I didn't wear makeup that night lol - so glad she's not a couple of years older!)  It was one of the ones I had sent my older sisters when telling them.

 

Turns out the android tablet they are playing on is linked to my Google account and even though I hadn't used it to take or send that photo Google keeps a "temporary" cache of recent photos to be "helpful" and had offered them to the app to use.

 

So for all those using online accounts be warned - you may find that the harvesting of data goes across devices that are not really connected. I could dismiss it tonight but would not have liked to have that conversation with their mother this evening if she'd mentioned it even five minutes later! ?

Oh Yes!  The internet never forgets.  And it seems all these systems talk to each other.  Yikes!

That is the problem! I have been very careful to have separate google accounts and the kids never get on my laptop, and I have made sure they haven't gotten near my phone when it had photos on it. I just never knew that it would keep things that you did not store, let alone share them across devices!

Pc's prove to be more convienient than Ipads.   Ipads are notorious for using the cloud for sharing.   Also with remembering user data.   If your not familiar with them they can really drop you into a very awkward situation.   I use laptop or desktop pc... Or my Android mobile....much safer....

Hi Sadie, I have resisted taking a picture of myself for a long time.  Once it’s in the the cloud, it’s very hard to get rid of.  I do love to see myself in the mirror fully dressed.  It’s another way for me to verify that I am  woman.

Absolutely! When I started questioning it was a way for me to think about how things felt when I saw myself as a woman, I found a way to do it once but forgot to save it, so downloaded a free app called android cleaner that scrubs the temp file so all's well that ends well but it was a lesson in being careful even for someone like myself who thought they were pretty tech savvy!  x
