There is information out there on how to walk, talk, dress, looks, just about everything but: How to stand. For me that means standing at the counter at work. What is the proper way for a lady to stand. Either at a counter or not.

 

Right now we have no females that work the counter where I work. So observing isn't possible at this time.

Shoulders back, head up.  We look people in the eyes more than a male does, and are quicker to smile.  Feet a little apart and one maybe behind or pointing out for balance.   Even with the head and shoulder position, we are still relaxed and often talk with our hands a bit.

Hi Kymmie - since I started looking at these things I've realised the women in my area are too practical - only about 1 in 5 fits the stereotypes with walking/clothing etc - there is only so graceful you can look in wellies, big jackets and wooly hats! but I would agree that the less you slouch and spread yourself out the better. In my experience men tend to lean in towards people moving into their personal space (either as a challenge, to announce ownership, or to show enthusiasm) while women do not and prefer to maintain boundaries unless appropriate such as passing something to you. Only the younger teens on their phones lean forwards and they soon back up if something appears too close to them on the counter. ?

Standing is a tricky one. Sometimes I bend one leg slightly and raise that heel so my hips are relaxed and stay at a relaxed angle to the floor. If I need to reach or move a little then I’ll always leave at least my toes on the opposite leg on the floor as a counterbalance to the direction I’m leaning or stretching.
