Going in Navy for 4 years

Recommended Posts

Hey all! I'll be joining the Navy for 4 years this summer to pay for my college, though I'm... less than ecstatic about the thought of being completely closeted until I'm 24. I would really like to get on HRT when I can but my future as a whole is important enough to make that sacrifice obviously. However, I would love some insight on if medically transitioning while enlisted in active duty is possible. I'll probably be at sea often, but I've heard of people beginning HRT with around a year of their enlistment remaining? Any advice would be much appreciated! Thank you ❤️

Congratulations.  I was in the Navy back in the 70's.  In today's social and political climate I'm not sure there is much positive to offer about transitioning while serving.   Things could change though and the military leaders we have generally are not against transgender service members so hold on and see what happens.  Give it your all and you'll enjoy the time.  I know I did.

That's great news JT, sounds like an adventure, i have a feeling even if you are not "out", you will find ways to express yourself. Having long term goals is great thing, keep your eyes on the prize. The climate could even change while your already serving. It's a big ocean out there, love the sea, I have a feeling you will too...

Hugs and well wishes

JT,

Congratulations on choosing to serve our nation and to defend our Constitution! Before beginning any open transition, I would really under DoD and Navy policies and regulations on transgender service. I would also balance those policies with the Command climate. I am not sure, but I think starting HRT while on active duty may impact VA services after you are discharged. One last thought, always remember that the military's sole purpose is to support and defend the Constitution of the United States, and all our personal wants and needs are subordinate to that purpose.

I wish you all the best!

Thank you serving our country. I've done my time, too. Now a days the VA is very LGBT friendly. Each facility has a LGBT coordinator. I know that VA policy is to treat all veterans equally, including those that are LGBT. I know in our hospital. If a Dr. refuses to treat a trans vet.  They are in violation of said policy. and can be terminated. The head LGBT coordinator in D.C. has their hand on the pulse of DC.

While SRS surgery is not one of the VA benefits, now. I do know that it is back on the decision table again this year.

Hugs,

Kymmie

Well yesterday didn't work like I wanted to. I met a guy and started talking and he was wanting to be in a relationship. I asked my kids on how they thought of me dating a man and they said gross and said no. I guess it's time to look for women. I think that is going to be harder. Oh well I guess.

This topic reminds me of the lyrics to the Beatles song, "A Little Help From My Friends."   "What do you see when you turn out the lights?"   "I can't tell you but I know it's mine."   Carolyn Marie

@Ivy have you read the actual document?   Has anyone else out there read it?
    • Abigail Genevieve
I am reading the Project 2025 document https://www.project2025.org/policy/   This will take some time.  I read the forward and I want to read it again later.   I read some criticism of it outside here and I will be looking for it in the light of what has been posted here and there.  Some of the criticism is bosh.   @MaeBe have you read the actual document?

      *older, not holder, oops :P

      No problem!

Old topic, but I gotta say my favorites are: "Stop hitting on minors" (doesn't work if you're holder tho) and "Sure as [squid] not you"

Abigail, I think we will just leave the other posts where they are, and the discussion can start anew here.  It is possible to do what you ask, but would disrupt the flow of the discussion in the other thread, and would require more work than it's worth.   Carolyn Marie

I am in too good a mood to earn my certificate today. I am sure something will happen that will put me on the path to earning it.

It's likely most cis-women consider a fitting unnecessary "because they know what  they wear" and get used to the wrong size.  The instructions for what your size is are simple and why go to any further effort?  You measure your bandsize and you measure your max and subtract the two to get the needed info for the cup size.  Then you buy the same size for years until it hurts or something.

Congratulations Lorelei! Yes, it is a powerful feeling to have the documents that say "you are you".

Here is space for discussion on this, since the topic is large and could derail another thread SOMEBODY started.   Could some dear, sweet, kind Moderator pull everything related to this from the Voting for Trump thread and put it here?  I don't know if you can do that; I am the new girl on the block after all (blinks sweetly).
