16/8 intermittent fasting

Before we get started I must tell you.  Always consult a doctor before considering any new diet plan especially one as controversial as fasting. This goes triple for anyone on HRT.

That said, let's get into this.  16/8 intermittent fasting is an eating schedule where you eat all of your meals in an 8 hour window while you eat nothing in a 16 hour window.  Many recommend working out before your eating phase as well. Now from what studies show this strategy will not change over all weight loss but it in most cases stops your metabolic rate from dropping during the weight loss.

This causes insulin to drop slightly and eventually reduces insulin resistance (however diabetics should be closely monitored by a doctor if engaging in any form of fast due to the potential dangers).  It was also proven to reduce overall grellin in the body (grellin is one of two hunger hormones that often spikes around people's normal meal times) it is also claimed that this improves satiety.

That said you still should diet properly during the eight hour window, if your eating 2500 calories in that window then ultimately you won't lose weight unless you are an exception for whatever reason.  Many recommend a ketogenic diet during this time but I have heard of people going low fat and getting great results as well.  Ultimately diet and exercise is about what works for you.  Ketogenic made me lose 30 lbs while my mother used low fat and lost 25 (which was her goal) so I'm not going to say one way is best because that's not reality.

IF works well. The ultimate goal of IF is eating 1 meal a day. 16/8 is the absolute minimum. Some people take their IF to 48 hours between meals.

The reason that they recommend the keto diet is because of the insulin. If you can go truly keto you aren’t hungry like you are on a basic low fat diet. It is much harder to get to 1 meal a day with a balanced diet.

I lost 80 pounds on a keto based diet a year ago. But the issue is that keto is a life altering nutrition plan. Once you add carbs back your weight will go up. There is also a HUGE difference between the fad diet keto and healthy  keto. Make sure you follow a healthy keto plan and not a fat based one.

But it does work! Personally I didn’t want to give up fruit or beer.

I like your rather thorough repore on IF. I've become a proponent of it but and it's benefits.

I tried this after gaining 35 lbs in like a month. A month or so into it I lost 17 lbs, and the belly bloat. I'm not on hrt yet. I plan on resuming a healthy, balanced, calorie requirement fullfilling diet once I do.

I must say it works well. I recommend consulting a dietician, as well as studying the science and safety aspects of it. Especially if on hrt, as I'm told your physiology becomes so demanding of proper nutrition.

Energy and hunger can be an issue for like the first two days. It takes this long for the ghrelin levels to reach an equilibrium. Hunger pangs really only last like 15 minutes and seem a more desperate reaction to appetite than they really are. But they do subside. Metabolism adjusts well and in two days your focus and energy levels develope more efficiently.

Get good amounts of vegetables and berry fruits in your eating windows. Try to maximize your vitamin rich calories. Minimize simpler carbohydrates. I was able to do this diet without counting calories or doing any math. But again, I'm speaking from the standpoint of an amateur student of the diet who has no experience with hrt, SEEK PROFESSIONAL MEDICAL ADVICE, and PLEASE stay safe!

A couple of years after the previous post, but I’m just starting this myself. Anyone else doing intermittent fasting?

I have started it. My weight has gone totally nuts. I have been diagnosed with severe hypothyroidism. I just thought that OK, all my T4 comes from prescription, I do not need to worry about my thyroid or metabolism. Wrong! I gravitated towards full OMAD and that was bad for my health, bad for my metabolism. My metabolism slowed down to crawl. I went to the doctor, asked more T4 and she said no. After OMAD I have been in dietary hell and my weight yo-yoing back like 30 kg up and counting.

I am waiting for my knee surgery and doctor said, you cannot gain any more weight. My PT has a plan and it includes intermittent fasting. I cannot do OMAD, I have to keep eating through that eating window, five times 500 kCal. From ten o'clock to six o'clock I will be doing a whole lot of eating. I also like to travel much, so it will not be convenient. I will also be exercising, it will not be convenient.

Everything I have learned about thyroid so far points to the direction that being hungry and exercising do not mix at all.

As for what, how and when, I love to chit chat with people. Lots of social eating. But, none of that is after six o'clock. Yesterday, for instance, I was at a language club and we had tea table with treats. It was from five to seven. I ate treats, but at six, I drank tea only.

Require students to use bathrooms that align with the gender they were assigned at birth Prohibit transgender girls in seventh grade or older from participating in girls sports or other girls-only activities  Ban gender-affirming health care — including surgery or hormone treatment — for transgender students under age 18, even if parents consent or the treatment is recommended by a doctor Require schools to notify parents if students change their pronouns or otherwise signal they identify as a gender other than what’s on their official student records Doesn't look like it "protects" anybody.  It actually is about restricting trans kids rights.   The ways politicians name their bills etc. is a farce.  Most of the time they do the opposite of what they're called.

There's a lot of bad information out there.  People like the sensational stuff, whether it's true or not.   Too many people live in a news/opinion bubble.  My ex's late husband kept Fox News on 24/7.  It was always there in the background of their life.  There is something about "trans" stuff every day, and always negative.

Good morning everyone,   Head Cold and body aches are reduced today. @April Marie I'm glad you're feeling better too. Good luck timing the lawn care with the weather. @Willow It's good to hear that your wife is on the mend, and you may make it to Salt Lake City. I'm sadden to here about Tattoo Tom.   This is very good news @Adrianna Danielle   @Ashley0616 I hope you find the right hair removal service in a convenient location.   I'm on my second cup of coffee, and we're expecting rain this afternoon and evening.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Well, I can not say good morning today.  The world has lost a loving, caring man that gave his all for others that are suffering.  I do not have details, however Tattoo Tom of Stillbrave Childhood Cancer Organization has gone on to be with his daughter Shala and my Granddaughter Daphne and all the other kids with cancer and their families he tried to help.  You can Google the organization and it will tell you his story and what they do.  He used to run in Ultra marathons to raise money.  He was scheduled to run in the Moab 240 later this year.  Each mile is dedicated to a child.  You can see Daphne’s story on mile 233 and Shala is always the last mile.     if you have a few dollars to spare please make a donation.  The work of 5he organization will continue but it will not be the same without Tom.   Well on a better note, I learned last night that I can attend the Salt Lake City gathering of the Presbyterian Church USA in Salt Lake City. As a guest of our minister.  If I can get there I am going to try to go.  I am just waiting to hear from my son to learn if there are blackout days around the date I need to be there.  And I realize the bigger issue could be getting home so I do have th weigh the risk against the opportunity.   Thank you all for your concerns and prayers regarding my wife’s recent back surgery and my concerns about my voice.  My wife is definitely on the mend.   well I guess I need to get a move on it is later that I realized.   Willow
