Breast / mammograms

Here is a question that I want to ask and is a good question.  Now that I am developing and have a B cup and I am sure others here might question as well, we all need to do mammograms.  When should we go for our mammmograms to start and should we go when were early in our transition or wait a couple of years.  When should we go get our boobs smashed?

First thing is to tell your medical team, and get them to teach you how to do a self breast examination for lumps or suspicious sore spots.  That will make them note your chart that  you are ready to start your new life that includes mammograms, and they will begin nagging you to go have them done probably every 2 years unless you find something in between those times.  At your age it may be three years, but you do have a cancer history if I remember, which may speed things up and have you on a more regular track.  I have had 4 boob-o-grams in the last 6 years, the fourth one two months ago and another one in two more years if I have found nothing suspicious.  Oh and did I mention self exams on a regular basis??

I concur with Vicky.  Your PCP should be told about your HRT history and they'll examine your breasts and determine when you should start getting your mammos grammed.  I think I started mine about three years after starting hormones, and have done the test just about every year since, maybe skipping a year once.  For someone over 60, the recommendation is annually.

Both Vicky and Carolyn Marie are better gals than i.  My doctor gave me prescriptions several times prior to my journey to the imaging center.  I was taught the technique for self exam at the visit when i got my first prescription for HRT.  I actually almost enjoyed my first exam.  I had a chance to chat with others there, some of whom had experienced issues in the past.  This is a serious matter.  Please discuss the need with your doctor.

One more step towards womanhood.

Thank you all for the helpful advise.  I do need to make an appt. with my PCP.  Since I am a cancer survivor and a girl who does not want cancer back and wants to make sure her health is still good.  I want to make sure that I dont get breast cancer.  My Endo spends a little longer with me to make sure that I am staying healthy and good
