Hiya all,

I wanted to know your experience if you used wigs.

I got a wig that was styled but...at the front the hairline in the middle I can see abit of the hair net.....any advice or tips?

Thanks

Cara

I would just like to say I would like to know too. I have tried wigs a few times but they never seem to look or feel right. Yet look so good on other people.

So definitely interested in any tips or help people can give.

Wigs were "my hair" in my early days of transitioning and before that when I identified as a CD. Several years ago I put an album in my gallery here about wearing wigs,  (Just saw it was more like 7 years ago when it started)  https://www.transgenderpulse.com/forums/gallery/album/1573-wigging-out/

Wigs come style cut and with synthetic wigs they are curled and set.  Even so, you need to see a wig or hair stylist who can shape them to your features.  The next  step is to comb them out with an actual wig brush which has metal bristles on a rubber backing.  Some brushes with the hard plastic tipped bristles will be ok.  Ask the stylist who shapes them to your face what they recommend.  It is the shaping that makes the difference of how good they look on the wig heads vs. your head.

Combing the wig out. take it by the back edge, and turn it upside down.  Starting at eh hair ends and working toward the wefting, brush it hard all over.  You will pull out some fiber, but don't worry, wigs have 30 to 40% more fiber than they need to look good.  (A stylist may cut some out, but don't do it yourself.).  Put the wig on a wig stand, and now brush from the front edge of the wig.  This will cover the gaps that can be seen in a new wig that Cara mentioned.  Put the wig on your head from front to back over your own hair that you have put up with bobby pins or clips.  I am neutral on wearing wig caps for wigs I own, but wear one when trying on new wigs or a costume wig with costume.

The hair in my avatar is one of my nicer synthetic wigs.

Hope this helps.

There’s only one wig that I can wear with minimal care, but even still it has to be brushed. When I actually have some time I would like to get my other ones styled to my face and then condition them all.

I’d really like to cut my hair, but I’m really scared that I’ll mess it up or I won’t look good with short hair, so I’m thinking about trying to get a wig to see if I like how I look with whatever cut I’m looking for.

Even if you don't look good with short hair... hair grows back. For other people anyway (not so much me anymore, but other people). A wig is going to set you back at least $80 for a decent "cheap" one. Synthetic hair, but fair quality. Just saying they're kind of an investment if you're just covering a bad haircut. That's without getting into the product you need to keep it looking nice.

Hugs!

Just for fun, there are some Apps out that can let you virtually try on different hair styles, and some wig sites actually have the "try on's" for wigs they sell.    If you are in a major area, simply go to your local wig store and try on some there.  They may have a small charge for just trying them on that is applied to your purchase price if you buy one but it usually is small.

Thanks so much for the advice! I  just talked to my parents about cutting my hair, and they seem cool with the wig idea too!

Well yesterday didn't work like I wanted to. I met a guy and started talking and he was wanting to be in a relationship. I asked my kids on how they thought of me dating a man and they said gross and said no. I guess it's time to look for women. I think that is going to be harder. Oh well I guess.

This topic reminds me of the lyrics to the Beatles song, "A Little Help From My Friends."   "What do you see when you turn out the lights?"   "I can't tell you but I know it's mine."   Carolyn Marie

@Ivy have you read the actual document?   Has anyone else out there read it?
    • Abigail Genevieve
I am reading the Project 2025 document https://www.project2025.org/policy/   This will take some time.  I read the forward and I want to read it again later.   I read some criticism of it outside here and I will be looking for it in the light of what has been posted here and there.  Some of the criticism is bosh.   @MaeBe have you read the actual document?

      No problem!

Old topic, but I gotta say my favorites are: "Stop hitting on minors" (doesn't work if you're holder tho) and "Sure as [squid] not you"

Abigail, I think we will just leave the other posts where they are, and the discussion can start anew here.  It is possible to do what you ask, but would disrupt the flow of the discussion in the other thread, and would require more work than it's worth.   Carolyn Marie

I am in too good a mood to earn my certificate today. I am sure something will happen that will put me on the path to earning it.

It's likely most cis-women consider a fitting unnecessary "because they know what  they wear" and get used to the wrong size.  The instructions for what your size is are simple and why go to any further effort?  You measure your bandsize and you measure your max and subtract the two to get the needed info for the cup size.  Then you buy the same size for years until it hurts or something.

Congratulations Lorelei! Yes, it is a powerful feeling to have the documents that say "you are you".

Here is space for discussion on this, since the topic is large and could derail another thread SOMEBODY started.   Could some dear, sweet, kind Moderator pull everything related to this from the Voting for Trump thread and put it here?  I don't know if you can do that; I am the new girl on the block after all (blinks sweetly).
