The Dead (Name) Don't Die

It's been more than 8 years since I legally changed my name.  I sent copies of my court decree to every credit card company and my mortgage bank.  For years now all my statements and online accounts have been in the name of Carolyn Marie.

 

But every so often my dead name arises from the grave to haunt me.  No silver bullets will keep it from menacing my present life.  It happened again today.  I have two credit cards and my mortgage with Chase bank.  When I logged in to my online account it wanted me to verify the device I was using, so they sent me an e-mail with a temp access code.  No problem, been there, done that many times.  But the e-mail salutation was for "him."   That rather upset me, even though no one else saw it.  I called the online banking number, but the staffer couldn't find the problem and couldn't fix it, so he transferred me to the mortgage department.  The woman there figured out what part of their system my dead name was residing in, but it will take a report and 3-4 days to oust the little bugger from his hiding place in the recesses of their software.  That will take care of it, but he's like Freddy Krueger and never stays dead for too long.

 

Somehow, I know that my dead name will haunt me long after I'm gone from the world.  "Alas, poor Yorick, I knew him before he became poor Carolyn."  Hmm, maybe I should have changed my name to Yorick?

I have an appointment with the IRS on July 23 about that same little problem.  Probably the same little gremlin.

He does keep popping up.  When he does i try to remember that i still get junk mail addressed to my father despite his being gone for over 15 years now.  

Thinking that bureaucracies can make efficient changes is hard at best.  My property deeds mention that "He" sold the land to me for $10.  What an idiot "He" was......

Good luck Carolyn, it's annoying, and it's personal.

 

The junk mail still comes for him once and while after 6 years, all of that hits the shredder, I gain a certain satisfaction from shredding it ?

If it makes you feel any better, I haven't even begun the name change process and was just awarded my GED in my dead name. I don't know whether to frame it or hide it. So I def know how you feel.
