Shaving question

JustineM

Recommended Posts

I recently started shaving my legs and I’m running into a slight problem. I’m finding that I’m getting a heat rash on my inner thighs and back of my legs. I initially thought it was razor burn, but it’s showing up about a full day or two after I shave. Any suggestions or tips I could take to help prevent this? I love the feel of smooth legs but it’s a little uncomfortable to sit.

Edit: I am using shaving cream, and exfoliating

JustineM  I'd like the answer to that question too. I feel your pain and discomfort.  I've tried multiple products. Veet is horrible. I've tried waxing but painful. Nair works ok but still get a little rash. So if anyone has any suggestions it is welcome.

If it is two days later, I would suspect an allergy to something you are using or getting around.

I am totally finally yr pain...I have tried everything. Mine answer is laser, which I am saving up for, but baby power always helps me with the rash,

I sometimes find a red rash after I've shaved the upper part of my legs, inner thighs etc. I imagine it's due to the fact that that area rubs against the opposite leg when walking and as such is somewhat more sensitive that other areas. I use my favourite antiseptic cream on the red areas and it soothes it very quickly.

Being on the larger side the inside of my thighs get jock itch every summer which initially shows as a large red patch, as Petra Jane has said it can be made worse with the thighs rubbing together - shaving has not helped! Find a soothing cream (In the UK we have one called Eurax which works well) and have cool showers regularly making sure to dry thoroughly before you moisturise, the back of your legs could also be to do with shaving direction, when you get above the knee try shaving from side to side rather than up or down.

So, heat rash and swamp crotch are both a combination of moisture, heat, and bacteria.  Wash at least once a day in the impacted regions.  Use a medicated drying powder at least once a day, and more if necessary to keep the area dry (Gold Bond being the most widely known).  Wear underwear that is breathable, preferably cotton, and avoid polyester or nylon pants or skirts.  If you can, at night go without underwear and wear a skirt or gown to allow the effected areas to air out and dry.  If the problem persists, try a topical anti-allergy cream like hydrocortizone to the area to see if it is allergy related.

Soaking three times a week in a quarter cup of bleach in a full bathtub can kill off the most stubborn bacteria, even MRSA (flesh eating), which is notoriously hard to kill.  Do not exceed a quarter cup of bleach in a full tub.  You don't want your hair to turn green, or any nasty bleach burns.

Thank you all for the replies and suggestions. I had thought about trying something like Goldbond, so I may have to give that a go. I’ve been using hydrocortisone cream when it does flair up bad, but the last one was so bad it took almost a week of treatments to clear up. I’m really surprised I didn’t think of the bleach treatment, I had to do that all the time as a kid for athletes foot.

Good morning    I should not have said about sleeping in, now I have to go in 2 ½ hours earlier.  Oh well at least I. Off tomorrow and Monday, I think.as of now, hope I didn’t just jinx that too.     Hot today high 80s dropping quickly and rain to the 60s for a couple of days then more normal 70s.  It just depends on which way the wind blows. Off the gulf, hotter, off the ocean, cooler, out of the north rain and when they all converge, look out.  That’s today.   i made a pot of coffee but I think most of it is going to waste.  My wife went back to bed and I’m not good with coffee when I’m hot, and I am. That’s my fault, I was 4 days.late with my E again.  I just st have a really hard time keeping on a 10 day schedule.  And my reminders aren’t helping..   now I’m going to peak by tomorrow since it isn’t all absorbed in one day, I’ll hold fairly steady but if I’m late again I’ll drop well below my target yet again.     Im down in the valley, the valley so low But I see my true love, at the top of the hill i climb the mountain, but she is not there for she has gone back down, to the valley below   I didn’t come up with a refrain and with that I’m calling the guys with the padded cells. lol   Willow

It's funny with photos isn't it, how we think we look in them vs. how we actually do look in them! I'm hopeless at smiling and I have to try really hard not to frown or look like a zombie. I'm never sure how I come across to others.   I had a moment late last night when my eldest daughter facetimed my wife for some now forgotten reason, and when I was handed the tablet and talking to her, I was fixated on my image in the corner. My hair was wild at the time, I was a bit tipsy and all I saw was a woman! I have no idea what she saw in that context. I'll probably never know.

I hope to see you on the Zoom meeting tonight, April.  I might be late, since I am doing lights and sound for a play that opened last night.  I was home before ten last night, so I think I'll be able to make it.   Today is an anniversary for me.  Seven years ago today, I stood up at the weekly community kaffeeklatsch as <deadname> and announced that henceforth I would be Kathy.  It went as well as I could have imagined: there were some surprised looks, but no hostility and lots of support.  A whole layer of stress disappeared that day and has never come back.  (There have been other stresses, but that one is gone.)  I have been me full-time ever since that moment.

This is a scarily accurate description of what I feel!   I hope I don't sound too schmaltzy by saying this, but I remember when I signed up to this forum last year, during the sign-up process the question is asked, "Why do you want to join TransPulse?" to which I wrote, "Looking for a home where I can freely write about my issues and interact with similar people."    I think I just found one. ❤️

Good morning, everyone!! I was up early again - already on my third cup of coffee having walked/fed the dog and read the local paper.   We have a birthday party for a friend to go to this afternoon but no real plans otherwise.   I hope to be able to attend tonight's TGP Zoom session. It's been weeks since I've been able to participate with the illness/loss of our dog, two horrible colds in succession and our trip to chase the solar eclipse.   Have a wonderful day and look for the goodness in it.
