Hello,

My name is Naia Ōkami. I am a twenty five year old transgender girl from the state of Georgia. I prefer she/her pronouns. I joined Transgender Pulse for the purpose of making new friends and talking to others about my journey, as well as to have another tool in the toolbox for crisis management. An odd fact about me is that I am an internet meme, and am known for the quote "On All Levels Except Physical, I am a wolf." which comes from a documentary I was featured in back in 2013.

My journey coming out as transgender has been a long one, starting from when I was very young and still on-going. I'll post a brief timeline below.

  • 6 year old Naia struggles with bottom dysphoria, attempts to "fix" the problem in harmful ways, is taken to a psychologist who educates her about various body parts and does nothing further. Naia attempts self correction several more times until she is told doing so could potentially be fatal and is scared from further attempts.
  • 12 year old Naia is disgusted by the results of her false puberty, especially the growing of facial and body hair. She asks several people if removal of body hair would be acceptable, and is told probably not.
  • 13 year old Naia realizes she is NOT MALE, but does not know what she is. She does not like any traits commonly associated with masculinity and does not like any traits being associated with her.
  • 16 year old Naia ponders if she could perhaps be female. She creates several female roleplay characters for free-form textual roleplay and on Second Life. She enjoys this experience, but does not speak of it outside trusted circles. Naia is already known as different, and doesn't want "one more thing" to be bullied and harassed for.
  • 20 year old Naia changes all of her online identities to "Naia" temporarily as an experiment. This lasts two weeks or so, she does not maintain this identity due to the same fear she had when she was sixteen.
  • 23 year old Naia publicly comes out as transgender, and occasionally presents as feminine, but not full time.
  • 24 year old Naia begins dating a lovely girl, but her parents are religious conservatives. They are openly homophobic and transphobic, so Naia begins hiding the fact that she is transgender and presenting less and less often.
  • 25 year old Naia fully accepts her identity, and files a Petition To Change The Name of an Adult in superior court, becomes legally Naia.
    • Naia seeks HRT, is denied by a local doctor despite being recommended for the procedure by both a psychiatrist and therapist in good standing.
    • A doctor an hour away agrees to treat Naia, but unfortunately does not take her insurance.
    • Naia is currently saving up money for HRT, and also looking for in-network provides within a three hour radius. Naia is also pondering delaying HRT for a year or two in order to rekindle a relationship with the aforementioned girl mentioned one major bullet point ago.
      • Naia does not intend to suppress her identity forever, in fact, if things are 'rekindled', she intends on helping said girl find an apartment or home not under the roof of controlling religious parents.

So yeah. I'm currently in the process of getting a new wardrobe and dress mostly feminine now and present as a girl in every day life. It's been a long journey but I am much happier expressing myself as I truly am.

I'm a bit curious about your username. Do you simply like wolves, or are you also a part of the therian community?

Im to old to know really what an internet meme is but in any case

An internet meme is a short sound clip, or text phrase easily repeated to invoke an idea or emotion, often accompanied by a known visual image.  For example, the old posters we used to see of the kitten hanging from a branch by its front claws with the phrase "Hang on, Friday is coming" is a meme of sorts.  If you go back far enough, the strutting cartoon guys with the phrase "Keep on truckin'" would be a meme.  Internet memes are widely used, often with variations, and have a lifespan of popularity before becoming somewhat obscure.

I see Michelle.  Well i think i do anyway. A picture with a well known or made up phrase. For instant a picture of Jack Nickelson with the phrase " Heres johnny"

See them all the time but never knew they had a name as such. (Im so not with it when it comes to these things)

Understood and updated.  Thank you ?

Hi Naia,

I've always had a deep love for wolves. I love the fact that my home State of Michigan has a native wolfpack.

While on the subject, this gives me an opportunity to explain the reason I split timberwolf to Timber Wolf is simply to make it sound like a name. But I am not involved in any animal role playing groups.

Lots of love,

Timber Wolf ?

What is the Therian Community?  Is that like werewolves?

I Googled it. I may be wrong, but it sounds like an animal roleplay.

You're extremely wrong. It is somebody who identifies (spiritually or psychologically) as animal.

What do you do to make someone else feel better or just smile?

A mixture of good and bad.

EXCITEMENT The feeling when you expect something good or nice will happen to you. You cannot wait for it to happen. You feel excitement when something very nice is about to happen. For example, when you are about to see a good friend who just returned from a year abroad, when you just received the keys for your new car, or when you are waiting in line for a thrilling rollercoaster ride. In each case, you are experiencing eagerness and impatience in expectation of the upcoming pleasant experience. Excitement is more likely when the anticipated experience is both novel or unique and desirable. It is especially intense if you have been waiting for a long time to obtain the goal, or when excitement is shared with other people and the event makes you feel like you are part of something bigger.

https://www.nbcnews.com/nbc-out/out-news/several-attorneys-general-made-abusive-legal-demands-get-trans-patient-rcna147910     This is a complex issue and I'm no expert, but the actions of these GOP Attorney's General don't pass the smell test.  Their motivations and actions are highly suspect and they lack any credibility.  What else is new, right?  I guess it will all come out in the inevitable court fight.   Carolyn Marie

I went to work with my husband today.  He asked me this morning if I wanted to go...of course I said yes.  I enjoy being with him, and getting away from the house for a little while.  He spent half the day in his office, which I think is why he asked me along.  He made a nest in the corner for me, where I can plug in my laptop and do my stuff...nobody minds me being there.     But today ended up with a strange opportunity.  I had a conversation with my husband's boss, the company owner.  They want some basic graphic design work done, so I think they might hire me to do it.  Nothing fancy, not nearly as complicated as what I've attempted to do for our county.  So I have a meeting with them on Monday, just to look at some details and see if I can do the work they want.  And especially talk about when they need it done, because I still work pretty slowly.  I don't really need or want the money, but its nice to feel like I can do something again.

I went to WM today with the objective of buying sandals: they would be women's, but look like men's; they would be brown or black, not white.  I realized the cheapest way to go  was to go for flip-flops, which I observed were prevalent in the store. So I checked out the women's.  Flowers. White shiny straps. Nothing that could possibly be men's. The best deal was one flip flop for $3.98.  At first I thought that was a pair, then, nope.  And because I comparison shop (is there the same thing in men's?) I found the cheapest over there was $6.98 for a pair of flip flops in green that also match my women's cargo shorts that I love.  Doing the math, finding the pink tax.  Rip off.  I have found a blue tax this way, but usually they charge women more for something than they do men. I guess women tend to lose one flip flop at a time or something. Weird.  The pairs were a lot higher.   So, following my rule, but unhappy with it, I bought the green men's flip flops.  They were the cheapest.  Later wife of mine complimented how masculine I look in my matching shorts and flip-flops.  Inward groan. We have not discussed the Subject in a long time because I think she forgets it is there as soon as the conversation ends.  Or she is trying to talk me out of this.  Not sure.  We only discuss it when necessary, and how often do most couples discuss whether one spouse is one sex or the other? Outside of here, I mean.  So we very seldom talk about it and she is happier if she does not know about it. Super stealth.  I do the laundry and I shower in the shower in the wing away  from the master bed room so I have my own shower.
