Coming out to my band teacher

I came out today after class to my band teacher as a transgender male. I was terrified. I told my friend and a group chat that I was going to do it. They were supporting me the entire time. I had been texting my friend all of class stressing and she comforted me and was with me when I came out to him. I had tried to come out to my parents last year and it was a disaster. And I may not live in my apartment for much longer. But this was huge because he is the first teacher I've told.

Good for you Nusta. How did he receive the news, was he supportive?

He is very supportive. Right when I told him he changed my name on the seating chart. I don't think he really understands it though. He told administration and I got called down to the discipline office today to have a meeting. The administrator emailed my guidance counselor and the school phycologist. It went decent but a huge part of the process is with my parents and they are very unsupportive. Next year I hope to be able to be emancipated.

Welcome Nusta.  Sounds like its all going fairly well.  Don't burn any bridges with your parents.  They may eventually come around.  Stranger things have happened in life.

It has gotten to a point where I hate being at home and avoid my parents at all costs. They force me to do things that make me very dysphoric. They make it a point to constantly use my dead name. They say that being transgender is fake and that it doesn't exist. Nothing I ever do is enough. I'm honestly ready to just leave and never go back. I have it set up so I can stay with my close friend.

Hi Nusta.  Glad things went well with your band teacher but maybe his involving the whole staff may cause issues for you in the short term.  Glad the guidance counselor and physiologist are getting involved however.  Hopefully they can help.

Sorry your parents are difficult.  Hope jani is correct and they come around sooner than later.  in the meantime don't put yourself at risk.  In a short time you will be independent at any rate.

Welcome Nusta,  All I can say is..."WOW"  I wish I had half your confidence and  courage to do what you did when I was your age.  It might have saved me a lot of trouble down the road.

Hi Nusta, welcome ?

 

It sounds like some things are coming together, which is good. As Charlize implies, you will be independant. It is a good idea to try to avoid getting into arguments at home as they will only likely inflame the situation. Keeping up a relaxed dialogue will help even if it does not change their perception, and it will help you. You may, for instance, like to use active sport to burn off your agression.
