Internet terms not discussed. Trigger warning

Just out of interest. Perhaps leading onto another thread later.

I would like to get your feelings on certain words used by others to describe male to female Transsexuals or Transgender.

Those words are as follows.

She-male

I got this from wikki.

Quote

-crossdresser- (also known as she-male) is a term to describe trans women or other people with male genitalia and female secondary sex characteristics, usually including breasts (from breast augmentation) or the use of hormones.

The term -crossdresser- has been used since the mid-19th century, when it was a humorous colloquialism for female, especially an aggressive woman. Using the term -crossdresser- for a trans woman may imply that she is working in the sex trade.[1] Some people find the term -crossdresser- offensive, mocking or showing a lack of respect towards transgender individuals.[2] While some people in the transgender community oppose the term, others in the community support use the of the term and believe the stigma is from activists who consider transgender pornography to be harmful to the community.[3]

funny enough i  googled this word and 99% of any result was sex orientated.

There lies the problem. Think of your average Mr or mrs Public. Putting it all together.

She-male = Transvestite or Transsexual. Mr or Mrs public assumes its all just a sexual fetish. Therefore assumes it is all just for sex.  Its not  doing any of us any favors really.

Which is surely almost an insult to our existance. Granted there is a festish element for some but for most its a way of life and any sexual gratification is not even in the same ball park. Worlds away from She-male . However google is first to put them together. Is this not google dissrespecting the trans comunity?  its actaully quite derogertory Having pages and pages of weblinks saying something along the lines of "Hot -crossdresser- gets down and x rated?" (Thats just being nice as most of them would be edited for this site)

Another term i have issue with is ladyboy. Which when googled means the same thing Transsexual or Transvestite which in this day and age are suppose to equal Transgender.

I personally find and have always found both these terms very offensive. I just wanted to ask. Is it me just being over sensitive. or is it actually a problem which needs to be addressed?

Ladyboy is a big industry. they even have travelling shows brought from the original home. Even here every year they do a tour Link here

But is it time this interpretation was put to rest?

How would you feel if you was called a She-Male or Ladyboy? Does it describe you? As thats what is the method of thinking in some quarters.

Do you as wikki implys suport the use of the term?

Are you also even a little offended or should you be saying Maid In Bedlem what are you talking about. Let it go.

I have noticed.

That this thread has made all the lights flash red on the panel at transpulse HQ as its triggered the lauguage filter in parts.

Therefore i come to the assumption that someone else is offended by these words.

Im sorry if i have offended with this thread my dears. I just find them nasty and demeaning also. But are still  widely used within the internet and beyond. as demostated. Its not my intention to belittle or demean any of you regardless

If any Moderators show up and decide this is not in the interest anyone or to be classed a taboo subject. Then i will not be offended if you decide to remove it. As we are all aware i cannot do it myself.

Otherwise i refer you back to the original post

The term she-male is a term used in the pornography industry. hence the multiple sexual hits. Most  transgender people find it derogatory. Lady boy, while not a widely used term in the industry it has roots in the sex industry. Mostly in the Asian countries.

In the main I would not regard as taboo as not against the rules and obviously terminology that may well affect members in some way so things they need to be aware of. That said, the tone of things can determine action, as to whether a thread continues in good spirit or on a detrimental dive.

I have generally come across these as sexual interpretations. If I were called such, I would expect it more from (typically) a certain type of male rather than people in normal life. It's not something I ever come across except for occasionally online though.

It does stem from the sex industry. Which is perhaps why i find it really offensive. It basically sexualises the trans population as a whole. We being part of that culture undesrtand its just not like that really for most of us. On the whole we do not subscribe to that behavior. However Because and especially online its shown to be of a pornographic nature it sends out completly the wrong message. As Tracy said in her post. a certain type of male would use it as a term to describe trans folk. But if you web seach it its all used to degrade to a certain extent. Just as normal pornograry could be shown to degrade woman. Just as Page 3 of the Sun was halted after many years after complants from readers that it showed women as just sex objects.

Quote

The Sun, Britain’s top-selling newspaper, has scrapped Page 3’s topless women after 44 years, delighting the legion of critics who have branded the photos of bare-breasted models sexist, offensive and anachronistic.

Full link here if you are unfamiler with the whole story

Then it was sexist to woman in the same way Sites that endorse and promote the sexual side of M to F is doing it in the same manner.

call me an old prude but i dislike the idea that we are all just  seen in places on google search as sex objects. I have a brain and im not afraid to use it.

I cannot speak for everyone but as Mary implied. It makes me cringe every time i see or hear those words.

Also I take tracys point. Lets all keep this thread as a discussion on this. No one should be getting upset about this subject as i know its sensitive, But do give your view.

Ladyboy isnt used so much in the west However the link i originally put is in its own way a freak show. I am saying that but have never seen it. However i can only imagine it is like a victorian sideshow.  Look at the ladyboy lets have a laugh at them.

I don't find these terms offensive unless they are directed towards one of our members.  Many of us know them as they come up from time to time.  They can also be used by those who want to degrade us.  I once considered my gender issues to be a fetish as that was the common belief.  This and other sites as well as the growing number of us who i have gotten to know has changed that attitude.  One can only hope that the terms will fade away (used as they should be) or exist with the general knowledge that they don't apply to the trans community.

Hugs,

Charlize

The term "-transgender-" is extremely degrading and pisses me off, besides it is part of the drive train usually greasy and dirty found on the underside of a car. That mental image makes it even more degrading.

My whole life even before i decided to change the outside to the person i am inside...people have for one reason called or thought of me as weird...but you know if they can't handle me either before or after my change it's their problem...as long as i am happy thats all that matters...and my mate is happy thats all that really matters...i have through the years finally learned to overlook ignorant people...yes is am getting as some might say female breast and maybe more feminie looking and acting, its my life...i am just sorry i waited so long...as young as 14 years old i was wearing bra's and panties...and even then i liked it alot...so now can't wait to fulfill my long time desire...just be as sexy looking and acting as i can...be yourself don't worry about ignorant people and those who don't have a life...enjoy life and be happy...hope this helps...

Looks like someone edited my last post, might as well just delete it altogether because it has little to do with what I said.

Word filter strikes again from what I see. Not directly a staff member editing it.

Our word filter will edit derogatory  terms and vulgar profanity.  The word "transgender" was the replacement word for what is commonly called an automobile transmission.

I haven't really thought of them as feeling offensive personally, never having been directly called by them. But I would never use these terms to describe anyone either.

I honestly don't know enough about cars to even GUESS what the derogatory term it replaced was. ?

My thoughts were that at least we're recognized as existing now. When I was growing up in the 70's and 80's ... A long time ago ... when I was younger, trans-people were so far under the radar in the Midwest that they might as well have been unicorns. I had some inkling that a procedure existed that could make men into women, but the very idea was so taboo that you couldn't bring it up. You just wouldn't dare. Half my issues (at least) stem from trying to wait it out so long. If there had been a community I could have reached out to then... but statistics (at least the last study I saw) said we were about one in two-hundred people. Growing up I knew one other trans person and I didn't know he was trans until something like ten years after we'd been in school together. My aunt was gay... but nobody talked about it. Heck, one of the big shots in a nearby town was gay, but nobody talked about that either.

Now we've got slurs, but people ... most people ... at least admit we exist. Granted it's in a hyper-sexual context based in porn and the sex trade, but it's a start. At least there's some people curious enough to look us up. That's probably not great. Objectifying us that way makes it easier to treat us poorly. Unfortunately, that's where all minority groups start out and we have to work to become a more accepted and normal part of society. There are still bigots. There's probably always going to be bigots, but they'd find something else to hate if we weren't trans, so what are you going to do? I've often thought that American culture would be better off for a "Hug your kid more,' campaign. Especially aimed at fathers and their sons. At the very least we'd see a downturn in daddy-issue plots out of Hollywood. That's only half a joke. I am SO sick of those.

Anyway, I'd like to see a nicer word in common usage if that makes sense. Transsexual is a little on the clinical side and doesn't make me feel cuddly. We've gone over terms used in the sex trade and internet porn so I shan't repeat them. I have no real gift for names, so I don't know what that word might be... well, maybe one word: People. Maybe friend.

Hugs!

That was very well put. Gave me a smile to.Also very true in most of society.  Storys in the media. This was of course pre internet then. Were mostly in cheap and tacky tabloids as i mentioned "The Sun" earlier and were made for the purposes of shock or ridicule. I can recall one very clearly To give you an idea. It went "Hey Diddle Diddle. Thats a Bloke in the middle" It reffered to a line of women. and in the picture was a transsexual. It may have been a beauty contest or such like. Cannot recall the article in full. But it was basically useing the headline to shock. As in your average joe public wouldnt have guessed it was a Trannsexual. To be honest the lady in question looked stunning and actually in my opnion better than some of the ladys also in the picture. Even then the word that shall not be typed was used a lot then. Mainly associated with porn and to belittle or ridicule. Which is my point. Do a google search on that word and good old google lets us down. pages upon pages of Porn. Now i think the word should be buried in the archive of pergatory. Never to be used again. Without fear of a hate crime attached to it on its murmour. Lets face it from what i have seen in this thread 99% do not like it or find it very derogerty.

But to digress.

I use the word Trannsexual also. They may be trying to phase it out in places But for me that will always be the word i used when i was in transiton. I was not Transgender. I was a Transsexual. There have been threads before on the diffrence between the Two but in this day and age the lines have been attempted to be blurred. However im not trying to make everyone believe Transsexual is a class above anyone else. But

In my opnion. I was never really Transgender. I had a medical and psychological  condition. I do not feel i fit under the trans umbrella. But thats for a debate im sure some other time. As this is about The word that shall not be typed.

Freinds is good  as you surgest however i do not think they will go for it. It would have the same ring to it. "Sexy "That word" has  session with her freind . It needs silcone valley to relise how hatefull it is instead of banning someone from the web or such like for saying something that is perhaps a little derogerty But are quite happy to allow dozens of results. Regarding the sexulisation of the trans comunity.

Colorado isn't exactly a Republican place, and won't become one anytime soon.  I think those folks might be better off not spending their time playing Don Quixote.    We certainly have our share of California "refugees" moving into where I live, so I wouldn't be surprised to start seeing Coloradans too.  I suspect the trend over the next few years will see the blue areas getting more blue and the red areas getting more red as anybody who can relocate tries to find a place where they fit better.
    • awkward-yet-sweet
Well, at least it'll be a place some folks could choose.  Options are a good thing.

My family would have gobbled that jar up in a minute or two.  When we do have pickled herring, its usually for Christmas.  I didn't grow up with that particular dish, but I grew up in a Greek family so I like just about any kind of fish if I can get it.  However, ocean fish and freshwater fish taste so different.  We usually have more catfish and tilapia to eat than anything else.    What I can't quite get used to is the tons of cabbage my GF insists on eating.  When you live with a Russian, there is always cabbage soup.  Always.  When I first moved in with her, breakfast was "shchi" for soup and either bread or "kasha" which is a bowl of boiled buckwheat with butter and salt.  Those dishes can be made in any number of ways, some are better than others.  In the winter, it can even be salty and sour like kraut.  Not exactly sauerkraut, but packed in tubs with vinegar and salt so it keeps partially for the winter.  But I drew the line when the cabbage soup included pieces of fried snake one day.  😆

Good evening to you as well @Mmindy   That is awesome that you have support from her side. My dad has communicated with me once and that was because he was forced to. His new wife wanted to spend time with my kids. He hated me so much he was in the process of taking my rights away as a parent to my two boys. He was talking to a lawyer and I called him out on it. I don't love him at all. I'll respect him because I wouldn't be here without him but I wished I had another father. My uncles don't talk to me and unfriended me on Facebook. Almost all cousins except for two are still Facebook friends but they don't give me any support. My mom said she won't support me with that but she has said that she loves me. I have nieces and nephews that are still Facebook friends but they have yet to talk to me. I have one sister that supports me out of three. The other's disrespect me by deadnaming me. They have never called me their sister. I think for them they think it's still a phase. They don't ask questions about me being trans. I have to bring it up and on the look of their faces they don't look comfortable about it.

Good evening @Ashley0616,   I just got offline with HP tech support trying to get my printer tool box icon locked to my tool bar. This is one of the most important features of my printer that I like because it keeps track of ink, paper, and scanned documents. I'm diffidently not a computer geek.   I'll catch up with the other bookmarks next week. We leave to go home for the Easter Holiday with our families. Saturday with her side, and Sunday with my side. What's odd about that is I'm out to more of her side and they're reluctantly supportive. My side on the other hand are less supportive, and my sister just under me in age will not acknowledge my being there. She will be constantly moving to keep from dealing with me. I'm dead to her.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

I used to follow baseball and the team I would cheer for is Boston Red Sox. My favorite player was Papi. He was an awesome guy and even held a child during the National Anthem. I haven't watched baseball for a long time. It just died off to me.
    • Ashley0616
That stinks that nothing transferred, and no bookmarks were saved!

I'm doing patches for now but I think soon I'll go to shots because it's hard to alternate when you are doing two xx patches at once. Unless she gives me Estradiol and progesterone

My view is we are "dependent" on government, because as a society, we are too lazy to stay actively involved. So, we let politicians do our bidding for us.  I think we'd be in a better place government wise if we policed the actions of our politicians.  We elected them; they work for us.  Sadly, we are allowing them to run amok.  We are where we are because we have chosen to let politicians make all decisions without us.  Remember "by the people, for the people?" That was the intent of our democracy.  Today, however, it is "by the politicians, for the politicians," the people be damned.

"Play Ball! Batter Up!" is the closing line of the National Anthem as far as I'm concerned. It's the call of the Home Plate Umpire and signals the start of the game. I grew up in the TV and Radio broadcast of the St. Louis Cardinals. Harry Caray, Jack Buck, Tim McCarver, and Mike Shannon, were the voices on my transistor radio. KMOX 1120 AM pushing 50,000 watts of Class A clear-channel non-directional signal. It could be picked up all across MO, IL, IN to the East. KS, OK, CO to the West. IA, MN to the North, and KY, TN, AR to the South. There has always been a rivalry against the Chicago Cubs, in the National League. As for the American League, I have to pull for the Kansas City Royals. I've also been a Little League Umpire, and fan of everything the Little League stands for. Going to Williamsport, PA and seeing the Little League World Series is in my top 10 things to do on my bucket list.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Good evening everyone,   I don't think my mother ever cooked a meal that I didn't like. We also had a kitchen where mom fixed the food, dad filled your plate, and you eat it. It wasn't until our baby brother was born that we could have Pop-Tarts for snacks. Before that all snacks had to meet mom's approval, and in her opinion wouldn't prevent you from eating supper.   Well my day started off on a good note, but has become frustrating because my IT person didn't transfer my saved videos I use for teaching. Then I found out that they didn't save any of my book marks for websites I use frequently.   Best wishes, stay motivated,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

The number is relative to method of deliver, the time of the dose, and when the blood is drawn. However, I do want to keep away from DVT and other potential issues. I assume I may be getting backed down from my current dose, but my doc told me to stick with the higher dose, so? I also wonder if this has anything to do the my breast growth and mental changes that have been happening over the past few years, like I have some estrogen sensitivity so a little goes a long way or something? I don't have enough data to postulate, but who knows!   With weekly, subcutaneous, shots you expect to see big swings of serum level estradiol from shot to peak to trough. My doctor is interested in mid-week testing (for E and T levels only), which would be post-peak blood serum levels but they will be higher than trough. Most, if not all, resources I've seen online is to measure at trough (which I might do just to do it next time) along with a SHBG, LH, and other metrics.   This is from transfemscience.org for Estradiol valerate in oil, which is very spiky compared to some other estradiol combinations. It's also for intramuscular, which will have a slower uptake and is usually dosed in higher volume due to the slower absorption rate from muscles. They don't have subcutaneous numbers, which I would expect to see similar spikes but higher levels at similar doses due to the relatively higher absorption rate direct from fat.   Are you doing pills, shots, or patches? And when you do get your levels checked are you getting that done when your levels are lowest or some other time?

Both of my parents were from the “North Shore” of Boston.  My mother Lynn and my father Swampscot.  They had an early 1900s Scots-Irish New England diet.  My sister and I were born in the 40s in Ohio well away from New England seafood and in an area where food was more German and Polish.  My first experience with liver and onions was during basic training.  They ate salt cod but never forced us to eat it same with oysters.  My dad ate oysters but my mother wouldn’t.  Anyone who ever ate an oyster can figure that one out.  I grew up eating lamb.  My wife won’t touch it. I love brazed ox tail, again no way. And the list goes on.

My mother was German, so yes, I think it was a cultural thing.  If I'd known you when we were cleaning out my mother's place, I could have sent you her "threat jar".
