Marriage stuff in different Countries after legal Name and Gender Change

Hello there! This is going to be very specific and I'm not sure if anyone can help me but I'd still appreciate some advice. I tried to Google stuff on these topics but only found partial answers and have no idea how this is going to go down.

So I'm a trans man from Germany and I'm going to have my legal name and gender change this month, which I'm really happy about. The issue is that, my current fiancé (cis girl) lives in New Zealand, and we were going to get married in her country. From what I've read and heard, this gender change makes it possible for me to marry someone and get listed as a male in our marriage, but this only applies in my country (Germany). I couldn't find anything on how it works in New Zealand, because I've heard that in the UK for example you need to have your birth certificate changed in order to be recognized as the preferred gender in marriage. So if this was the case in New Zealand, would my legal gender change in Germany still count and would I be listed as male in our marriage?

Sorry if the terminology I'm using is completely wrong or confusing, I'm extremely unsure of how things like these function, this is all still for the future but I'm so unsure of what I potentially have to go through... Maybe there's any trans people who've moved to another country that can help me with that at least?

Thanks in advance for any sort of advice!

Does your girlfriend have a lawyer she can talk to? I know it seems like a lot, but you're dealing with international law and you absolutely want to get it right. I'd start with a web search on NZ trans legal support and follow that thread until I found someone helpful

Hugs!

Hello Byleth,

If you are having your legal name changed, does that allow you to petition to change/correct your German birth certificate as well?   That would certainly solve the issue.  Understand that having the court order that changes your name and gender is just a start.  You still need to contact your Debtors (credit cards, apartment lease, etc), Division of Motor Vehicles (drivers license, auto registration),  Health Insurance (does Germany have universal healthcare?), Federal Gov't (travel Passport), basically any place where your name and gender are listed to have records updated.  The court degree doesn't change any other record.   It can be a bit of work to chase down everything, but it is worth it as it solves many issues such as the one you suggest.

I believe any degree from Germany would be legal in New Zealand but as Jackie suggests having your fiancee investigate might be the best route to finding out for sure.

Cheers, Jani

@Ivy have you read the actual document?   Has anyone else out there read it?

I am reading the Project 2025 document https://www.project2025.org/policy/   This will take some time.  I read the forward and I want to read it again later.   I read some criticism of it outside here and I will be looking for it in the light of what has been posted here and there.  Some of the criticism is bosh.   @MaeBe have you read the actual document?

      No problem!

Old topic, but I gotta say my favorites are: "Stop hitting on minors" (doesn't work if you're holder tho) and "Sure as [squid] not you"

Abigail, I think we will just leave the other posts where they are, and the discussion can start anew here.  It is possible to do what you ask, but would disrupt the flow of the discussion in the other thread, and would require more work than it's worth.   Carolyn Marie

I am in too good a mood to earn my certificate today. I am sure something will happen that will put me on the path to earning it.

It's likely most cis-women consider a fitting unnecessary "because they know what  they wear" and get used to the wrong size.  The instructions for what your size is are simple and why go to any further effort?  You measure your bandsize and you measure your max and subtract the two to get the needed info for the cup size.  Then you buy the same size for years until it hurts or something.

Congratulations Lorelei! Yes, it is a powerful feeling to have the documents that say "you are you".

Here is space for discussion on this, since the topic is large and could derail another thread SOMEBODY started.   Could some dear, sweet, kind Moderator pull everything related to this from the Voting for Trump thread and put it here?  I don't know if you can do that; I am the new girl on the block after all (blinks sweetly).

I will have arrived when I have a b*tch certificate of my own.  I think someone called me one once.

Good morning everyone,   It’s Thursday well as least I took my Thursday Medications as sorted out in my weekly dispensary caddy. Today’s coffee is Folgers Breakfast Blend served HOT, black and strong. My wife and I are going to explore the Western and Southern coasts of Saginaw Bay and hang out in Bay City, MI. today.    @Willowonce @Abigail Genevievepointed out the word usage in your post. I read it and laughed, enjoying the snarky tone of the comment. Since it was spelled correctly I thought maybe you meant for it to read just as you typed it. Then the kinder gentler me thought it would be better if I changed it. I’m not saying I corrected it, I just changed the severity of the sentence.    Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
