Might be a silly question but....???

How does one exfoliate an entire body?

Do you mean using a scrubby and shower gel and scrub the holy heck out of everything or is there some other female secret or process I do not know of yet?

I am still having extremely picky upper back of my thighs, hips, and butt area.  This is causing painful clothing contact and "shaving bumps" in places.  I've said this before but it is like I have two huge grill brushes for thighs and butt cheeks!!!  I'm talking PICKINESS times 100.

It probably doesn't help that I am on a super vitamin regiment due to my bariatric surgery and the low intake of, well, everything.  On one side its great because my head hair seems thicker and my nails are growing like crazy.  But it obviously is making my body hair very robust in some spots.  Luckily not my arms or lower legs and my torso is still manageable.

I have been using scrubby and shower gel for years now.  Back when it was "Not Manly" to do so.  I just liked how much lather I got.  LOL

I always hated wash clothes.  I use just antibacterial bar soap every time just with my hands to get those spots that are prone to body acne from hair follicle blockages. On my face too for the same reasons.  Though honestly I do not have face acne issues at all but don't want it to start.

I have heard of Aveeno too but honestly have not had a chance to buy any.

I am trying to work through all the man lotions and scents I still have, to not waste them, and basically, I am not out yet so I have little choice.

There are 2 different types of exfoliation that I know of, chemical and abrasive. Chemical exfoliants come in many different types and of varying strengths. They essential break down the out layer of skin, allowing shaved hairs to better penetrate back through the skin. They also breakdown the gross stuff that blocks and clogs pores.

abrasives contain abrasive material. Some are natural such as crushed shells or pits, some are not and are things like micro plastic beads.

Either one does require some scrubbing and application to most areas of your body.

I use a combination of the two. Not together, days apart. I always exfoliate pre shave and immediately moisturize post shave. It took a little bit for my skin to get used to both the shaving and the exfoliating, but I have less issues now then I did when I first started. I still have coarse and curly body hair which is a bad combination for ingrown hair. Can’t wait until I can afford some electrolysis and start hrt.

Feel free to DM me if you want to discuss the particulars of my routine.

*hugs*

I was fortunate to discover that there's a clinic that is licensed to teach electrolysis to student nearby.  As a result, my sessions are $20 per hour (performed by students under professional supervision) rather than $60 to $80, the local rate from qualified clinicians in my town.  I've been doing 2 hours a week for almost two months now, and it's gone very well.  Obviously, the savings is significant.

Might be worth searching to see if there's anything similar near you.

With best wishes,

Astrid

It's funny with photos isn't it, how we think we look in them vs. how we actually do look in them! I'm hopeless at smiling and I have to try really hard not to frown or look like a zombie. I'm never sure how I come across to others.   I had a moment late last night when my eldest daughter facetimed my wife for some now forgotten reason, and when I was handed the tablet and talking to her, I was fixated on my image in the corner. My hair was wild at the time, I was a bit tipsy and all I saw was a woman! I have no idea what she saw in that context. I'll probably never know.

I hope to see you on the Zoom meeting tonight, April.  I might be late, since I am doing lights and sound for a play that opened last night.  I was home before ten last night, so I think I'll be able to make it.   Today is an anniversary for me.  Seven years ago today, I stood up at the weekly community kaffeeklatsch as <deadname> and announced that henceforth I would be Kathy.  It went as well as I could have imagined: there were some surprised looks, but no hostility and lots of support.  A whole layer of stress disappeared that day and has never come back.  (There have been other stresses, but that one is gone.)  I have been me full-time ever since that moment.

This is a scarily accurate description of what I feel!   I hope I don't sound too schmaltzy by saying this, but I remember when I signed up to this forum last year, during the sign-up process the question is asked, "Why do you want to join TransPulse?" to which I wrote, "Looking for a home where I can freely write about my issues and interact with similar people."    I think I just found one. ❤️

Good morning, everyone!! I was up early again - already on my third cup of coffee having walked/fed the dog and read the local paper.   We have a birthday party for a friend to go to this afternoon but no real plans otherwise.   I hope to be able to attend tonight's TGP Zoom session. It's been weeks since I've been able to participate with the illness/loss of our dog, two horrible colds in succession and our trip to chase the solar eclipse.   Have a wonderful day and look for the goodness in it.

I think we tend to be overly critical of our looks, whether we're trying to express ourselves as masculine, feminine or anywhere along the gender spectrum. For me, I use photos as a way to track my progress, to help me find my style and look and to help me find ways to improve myself in posture, looks, make-up, style......   I didn't really think about our FB avatar being public but then realized that when people search they do see it.   Since I'm not out to anyone but my wife, therapist, priest and people here, my FB page remains "that guy." I have created a Bitmoji that is relatively androgynous moving slowly towards the feminine. Long gray hair, earrings, softer features...I'm transitioning it along with myself. :-)
