Coming out to my teachers

So I have been thinking and I think I'm ready to come out at school. I'm just thinking of sending a mass email to all of my teachers and just detailing my preferred name and pronouns and that my parents don't know about this. My sibling has already done the same thing and teachers and students have been perfectly supportive. As long as they remember that they can't tell my parents my preferred name then everything should be fine. Does this seem like a good idea?

It is a decision that I think everyone has to make on their own. How out people are can be very touchy, and I don't think there is any truly right way. However, if you feel ready, I think you should go for it. I changed my name at school, and it made every day just a bit easier when I didn't have that reminder to deal with.

This is a big decision.  I know there was no way I could’ve even considered this 40 years ago when I was a senior.  Society was too different and I “played” a jock to hid my true self.  It would’ve been a complete disaster back then.  This says a lot about how much more accepting society is as a whole today.  It also shows that the time might be right for you to take the plunge.  You might consider asking your school counselor (if they’re approachable & you’re comfortable with it) and get their opinion about the next appropriate step.  I’m sure you’ve thought through the logistics a 100 times by now.  So IMHO, if you think you’re ready...then go for it.
