Fuzzy Beard Feelings

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for it, so please redirect me if I'm mistaken.

I've been on T since June of this year (19) and so far in terms of facial hair I've gotten like, a pretty noticeable and (admittedly) somewhat creepy-looking 'stache, sideburns, and a solid crop of the "neck-beard" persuasion. All of this is fine and dandy, BUT my neck-beard is definitely getting a little out of hand length-wise. So I'm facing a conundrum about whether (and how to) shave.

1) The prospect of returning to baby-faced-ness, however briefly, is somewhat off-putting. I like my weird gross teenage boy facial hair! It's very validating. But also I look really silly. And it's kind of itchy what with having to wear scarves and stuff for the winter.

2) I don't know how to shave??? I mean obviously I've shaved non-face parts before but like not for a long time now... what do I do? How do I do it? I feel like I'm gonna mess it up and give myself awful razor burn on my neck? Should I shave my 'stache AND my beard?? Do I need shaving cream and stuff? Am I overthinking it?

So... does anyone have any advice for addressing either the 1) Feelings or the 2) Process??

Greatly appreciated.

Good news, Mar; I checked and there are quite a few Youtube videos for FtMs on shaving tips and techniques.  Just put "shaving videos for trans men" into your search engine.  That should help.

I asked my gay cis friend for tips on shaving my face/neck and he recommended dollar shave club. Fresh replacement blades combined with their clear shave butter means I don't have cuts, bumps, or burns. I also put on their after shave dew moisturizer too. Smells good and keeps my skin smooth until next shave.

I sound like an advertisement lol

Yes you do. ?

You're not actually shilling anything though, so I can probably let it slide. Especially if it's actually a good product. Personally, I always hated shaving. I'm glad you've got something that works for you.

Hugs!

A perfect description of my experience when I first started to getting a beard.❤️ ?

A regular hair clipper can be an alternative if you don't feel the need to be completely smooth. I've had a beard for the last 20 years and I rarely use anything but a hair clipper and/or scissors when grooming it. The difference between using the clipper without a comb attatchment and using a razor is so small that I don't bother using a razor.

If it's any comfort, the beard gets less itchy the longer it gets.
