Should I get bangs?

Lucca

Recommended Posts

Right now, I have hair past my shoulders which is not trimmed or shaped at all besides having the ends trimmed. Pretty much the only way to wear it is in a ponytail so that it's out of my face. However, this leaves my face unframed by hair, and so mostly just looks similar to when I had very short man hair. I'm thinking of getting bangs, that way my forehead is covered, there's hair around my face, and it's on my shoulders so maybe it makes them look less broad. It would also give me less of part so not so much skin shows through. I know that bangs are common for trans women who want to make their face and hairline look less masculine, so any input from people who have done this?

I would have to look at your face to give any hint at all.  My suggestion would be to go to a wig store and even with long hair try on a couple with various styles of bangs.  My own hair is so fine and straight (the only straight bit of me) that my stylist and I have agreed that using my hair for bangs is not going to work.  I have some pictures some of my albums of various bangs styles I have tried, including clip in extensions.  If your hair is heavy and thick enough though, see a hair stylist and go for it.  The difference between a good hair cut and a bad one is only about 6 weeks as my stylist and I joke.

Gotta agree with @VickySGV. I'd need to see your face. Preferably with and without bangs to see if it was working for you. Personally, I tried it with my first, cheapest wig and I HATED it. The things tickled at my brows and it drove me nuts. I'll either wear it pinned back with hairpins or one of my french-style barrettes. For special occasions, I use a banana clip. It's a bigger pain to keep out of my face, but I can do clever things with it and it's sparkly. Some days, sparkly is more important than utility.

Hugs!

Sure, here's my picture, left is the real picture and right is edited to have bangs, though I think I'd want to have straighter, shorter bangs that cover more of my forehead than what Faceapp gave me.

Yeah, OK. I think bangs could work for you. Just a touch over the eyebrows. That could work.

My thoughts exactly...just a little straighter and perhaps a bit longer.  It’s feminizes the face well

Thanks, I'll probably try bangs next time I go in to my hairdresser. Maybe try a bleached streak like I was talking about, too.

Oh you would look wonderful with a few highlights Lucca...seriously if you can do it...do it!!  Rarely, if ever, have any of my friends regretted getting highlights.

I love a few streaks and bangs as they soften the face.  you might also consider plucking your eyebrows to "lift" them and open up those lovely eyes.

Also never forget we are always prettier with a smile.

Charlize

This topic reminds me of the lyrics to the Beatles song, "A Little Help From My Friends."   "What do you see when you turn out the lights?"   "I can't tell you but I know it's mine."   Carolyn Marie

@Ivy have you read the actual document?   Has anyone else out there read it?
    • Abigail Genevieve
I am reading the Project 2025 document https://www.project2025.org/policy/   This will take some time.  I read the forward and I want to read it again later.   I read some criticism of it outside here and I will be looking for it in the light of what has been posted here and there.  Some of the criticism is bosh.   @MaeBe have you read the actual document?

      *older, not holder, oops :P

      No problem!

Old topic, but I gotta say my favorites are: "Stop hitting on minors" (doesn't work if you're holder tho) and "Sure as [squid] not you"

Abigail, I think we will just leave the other posts where they are, and the discussion can start anew here.  It is possible to do what you ask, but would disrupt the flow of the discussion in the other thread, and would require more work than it's worth.   Carolyn Marie

I am in too good a mood to earn my certificate today. I am sure something will happen that will put me on the path to earning it.

It's likely most cis-women consider a fitting unnecessary "because they know what  they wear" and get used to the wrong size.  The instructions for what your size is are simple and why go to any further effort?  You measure your bandsize and you measure your max and subtract the two to get the needed info for the cup size.  Then you buy the same size for years until it hurts or something.

Congratulations Lorelei! Yes, it is a powerful feeling to have the documents that say "you are you".

Here is space for discussion on this, since the topic is large and could derail another thread SOMEBODY started.   Could some dear, sweet, kind Moderator pull everything related to this from the Voting for Trump thread and put it here?  I don't know if you can do that; I am the new girl on the block after all (blinks sweetly).

I will have arrived when I have a b*tch certificate of my own.  I think someone called me one once.

That’s fantastic Lorelei. I’m so happy for you.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
