Hair transplant thoughts

I'm very interested in getting a hair transplant. I'm about as bald as one can get naturally, and I'm willing to try wigs but not keen on the idea of relying on them for the rest of my life.

Of course, for a hair transplant to work, you have to have hair to transplant, and obviously I don't have a lot to spare. But in reading up, I learned that there's something called a beard-to-scalp transplant. The nice thing about beard hair of course is that it continues growing, like scalp hair. And of course if I get my way, I'm going to be as beardless as possible ASAP, so why not sacrifice it?

So I've spent weeks researching websites of hair transplant specialists, hoping to find someone who will do both beard-to-scalp transplants AND states prominently that they have experience with transgender patients. I found quite a few in each category, but only one who seems to fit the bill for both. That's disappointing because I don't want to be locked into just one choice. But the one I found looks really good, he's got a fantastically thorough website. I have a consultation set for next week to find out if I'm even a candidate.

I am concerned about scarring from the extraction of the beard hair follicles. If I have a nice head of hair but a face that looks like swiss cheese, that's not going to work for me. So of course that'll be a prime topic of conversation.

I do have one question, not sure if anyone here can answer this: When it comes to transgender hair transplants, some websites say you should get your hair transplant before starting HRT, and others say it should be the other way around. Anyone have any experience on this point one way or the other?

Hi.

I had follicle transplants from the back of head to the front after starting HRT.  Still in the first year post-procedure, and it has grown in pretty good.

It's difficult for me to really see my donor area/scars so I don't know how this might translate to taking it from the beard area.  In my case there was a strip of flesh harvested and then the back was stapled together for a while, and later removed.

Sounds rough if on the face, but I don't know how the Dr you're looking at does it.

Wondering if you did the consult or move on this (before the shutdowns in March)?

Wish you the best.

Go on HRT first.  In some cases of Male Pattern Baldness will reverse itself on Estrogen and grow new FEMALE hairs per your family genetics.  I have not had Electrolysis on my beard since mine has always been super blond / white and very sparse (as in could never grow a decent looking beard) but those hairs are a much different texture that ones on the top of my head even after 11 years on HRT and I have trouble believing they will have a positive effect on your female hair appearance.  HRT will help in scar mitigation if you do the beard hair transplant though.

Here is a link on hair growth from Wikipedia that I posted in another topic that has good information. ---

Thanks. You’re replying to someone else, but the info is invaluable to me and my panicky nature. Now I can calm down.

Huh I saw a couple of consul.

1)Advance Hair Restoration was one and they pretty much shot me down. Apparently, I don't have a enough good hair in the back of my head to transplant. However, the guy who did my consul was kinda of rush out his door ( like he was either nervous or appalled.) But he did say if your going to get HT and your thinking about doing FF surgery , do the surgery first, because you don't now how much your scale will change after the surgery.

Then i want to

2) Bosely

My consul was via a zoom and they where like ;" oh yeah we can give you a full set of hair in no time.  The rep never look at my scale or the back of my head . He start push some electro type baseball cap for constant hair grow, and the their version of Rogue. Which he said is better then the actual Rogue and more expensive as well. In either case, I never got to meet a doc just some rep.

However, freak out  Advance  hair guy he did make a good point. If you going to get FFS i would wait to get the HT

Welcome aboard, Violet. What a pretty name!   You are among friends here. We are all on a journey, with things in common despite our individual uniqueness. I hope that makes sense!

Welcome Violet.  It's been awhile since i found this space with so many who understand the struggle to simply be ourselves in a society that often disapproves,  It isn't an easy path but being together we can share all the bumps and the joys. You are not alone.   Hugs,   Charlize

I'm sorry it didn't work out for the new job. Nothing to keep you from being on the search. I had a coworker who used to walk out of the locker room saying; "I was looking for a job with I found this one and I'll keep searching for the next one. Never let them think you're comfortable and settled."   The coffee has just finished brewing, and we have a HVAC technician coming in about 30 minutes to do an annual system check.   It's time to get out of my Pj's.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

@Sally Stone, I have enjoyed reading this thread immensely. There certainly are some things in it that I can relate to, particularly when you wrote that "I wasn’t a man trapped in a woman’s body." This simple statement confirmed two things for me; I am not an imposter here, and I could end up much further along the path than what I imagine now.   I very much look forward to your future posts here.   I hope that by posing this question I'm not committing you to spoil future posts, but can I ask, why you have settled on Bigender as a label? I keep changing my label and have no idea what it might be tomorrow or next week or next month!

This whole Cass Review thing is breaking my heart. I keep imagining how it must be to be a trans kid in the UK atm. I am halfway through reading the review so that I can effectively refute it if and when people cite it here in Australia.

One thing I took on board from a former boss who was an absolute gentleman and fluent conversationalist but a hopeless leader because he was the classic yes man to his superiors, was to take the emotion out of the equation when arguing. Don't use hyperbole. Don't exaggerate. Stick to what you know and defeat your adversary with logic. Of course, your adversary will double down and make an even bigger fool of themselves, and not even realize that they have lost the argument, nor will they realize that people are laughing at them and not with them. It also helps if you can separate them from their minions.   A conservative elderly uncle, who left school at the age of 12, swears black and blue that taking Ivermectin (sheep dip) prevents Covid because he knew someone who knew someone else who took it and despite that person being momentarily in close contact with people who had Covid, didn't come down with it. "Well, you're the one with the science degree!" I said.   A lot of people argue out of ignorance. They base their points on populism and rumor. I rarely argue, but when I do, it is in an attempt to push back. Another favorite saying that I use is "Rumors are started by haters, spread by fools and believed by idiots." I then ask, "Which two are you?" 😉

Good morning, all!!! Cloudy today with some light rain coming. Not a day to work outside.   I will vacuum the house and the head out to our local hardware store after I get cleaned up. Time to buy a new bird feeder for the back porch.   I'm sorry the job didn't work @KymmieL! Hang in there.   It sounds like a busy time for you at work @Willow. Finding reliable people is so hard these days.   Time for another cup of coffee before I start cleaning!!   Enjoy this beautiful day we've been given.
